I have asked all my "cs friends" but no one know what the problem is, so one of my friends gave me this website and said that maby thet know so i ask you guys:

When i try to test run my map (Valve Hammer Editor), i press F9 (Run) and this error come up efter going in to Half Life:

Error 5899: Metadata file missing or damaged [-1]!!!

What is that ?

Yes i have, i red a guide with 6 chapters and at the fourth that problem come up. ;/

Is this for CS1.6 or CS:S? If it's 1.6, it should be under Half-Life Engine Discussion, if it's Source, it should obviously be under Source Engine Discussion. I've never seen this problem before, so I can't help you unless I know what engine it's for.

Wow, this looks like a really obscure error message. A Google search literally turns up only 2 pages, and neither are English. I'm not sure what I can suggest, except that it may be a corrupted file somewhere. I'm not sure what "metadata" would be, though. :

First time I've heard about this error.. Nothing bout it at Tommy14 too.. :o

I've googled and found a few forum threads, with something simmilar to this.
It appears to have something to do with sound files. Does your map have any custom sounds?

The '~1' in the path means there is a continuation to the folder name and that there is a space somewhere in it.
DOCUME~1= Documents and settings
Muzzle, if the map was emepty I think a map emepty error will show up, leak or no entities in Hull #1. :)

The compile looks fine.

Try going into your maps folder and deleting every file with the same name as your map (.prt, .p1, .p3, .p3...) and then compile again.

my map name is test, and there are no test.prt test.p1 test.p2 etc
thers only my account name: hardcor3gam3r@hotmail.p0 hardcor3gam3r@hotmail.p1 hardcor3gam3r@hotmail.p2 etc.

should i delete them ?

i sadly got the same problem, i want to make a sven-coop map with the skins of counterstrike, i have a spawn point (info_player_deathmatch) and a barney my map also has a light with brightness 900. its like a 1 room (kinda like a box) i named it KB100 and i wanted to test it, and it did a lo00ng list of commands and in the end it it wanted to launch HL,
but b4 that happened: Error 5899: Metadata file missing or damaged [-1]
and i know this error is very unknown to this game, but i hope

My guess would be that either the 900 brightness in your light or those LARGER THAN EXPECTED textures are causing it.

Your textures are to large... make them smaller or use different ones.

I've used 512 x 512 textures before without problems...

They don't usually cause problems, though you can't be sure with unknown errors like this.

Your .rmf or .map file is damaged or corrupted. As long as I remember, I had that error when I screwed my .map file. I can be wrong though.

Try fixing those first. I hear they aren't usually a problem, but you never know...

Basically it's telling you that you've got a larger texture size than some old video cards can handle, most likely 512x512 in your case, considering the name of one of your textures. Since this Metadata error you get is in your console instead of a compile error, then it's likely your computer is at fault, but it'd have to be really old.

I don't know, these are just guesses. I have no way of knowing if they're connected.
