I completely agree, our quote boxes aren't too pretty atm. Needs less padding, too.

can we make a Mod Vault for some of teh mini mods. :D :\
Posted 15 years ago2008-05-14 12:17:54 UTC Post #249954
the mapvault is fine imo.
But perhaps there should be another cathegory to separate minimods from finished maps?

Oh and I also think that the quoteboxes needs the name of the one you quoted in them.
That would make things easier.

I know that it has been brought up before, but I really think that it is a good idea.

It has come to my attention that many new users on this site aren't very good at posting 'help' threads for problems that they have. This doesn't only look bad but the members must ask a lot of questions to be able to give a good awnser.

Now, wouldn't it be good if there was a default 'help thread' layout?
Kind of like a form that they have to fill out and it could look something like this;

-Background
When did that happen, what did you do?
-Problem
Explain the problem.
-Setup
Which versions, plugins, mods etc do/did you use?
-Personal message (Optional)
Posted 15 years ago2008-05-30 21:42:18 UTC Post #250718
That would be nice.
Posted 15 years ago2008-05-30 23:27:03 UTC Post #250724
Idk tosse. That seems kinda impersonal to me. Almost like a Tech Support Line. I think the reason why people ask questions in the first place is because we're so personal here.

Maybe there can be just be a sticky thread or something outlining that. I don't think a form would be.. appealing.

Apart from that i think it's a great idea, but there could be a different way of implementing a system like that.

It sounds like a nice idea to me Tosse, and i don't see any thing to be lost by giving it a try. Maybe don't make it a mandatory thing tho: the user can choose to use the form or not?

Yeah, if it's a "help me" thread it could automativly switch to that...

I don't know, it's just a suggestion. The benifits would be that it's a lot easier for us to know right away what the problem is, which makes it easier to solve. It also looks much better and it will be a lot easier to search the forum's for awnsers before posting new threads.
Posted 15 years ago2008-06-01 13:26:18 UTC Post #250806
the "new maps in vault" thing has disappeared ? If yes , then put it back !

Oh , and something I don't like are the BBC codes . They're shit and work like hell . Inspire yourself from the php forums . Ex : select an image link and then press the "img" bbc button . But no , instead of this , it places the code at the end of my post .

Heres a suggestion:

how about, letting players put images and working links into journals? its quite annoying because it doesnt work.

IMO images would break the shoutbox, and there's nothing wrong with the links.

Posted 15 years ago2008-06-01 14:04:14 UTC Post #250816
when did i say shoutbox??? -.- and yes. everything is wrong with the journal comment links. 1: if link is long, one part of it will be transfered into the next line, resulting in a bug (the part of it that is in the next line wont be counted atall, making the link not work) 2: same for images.

The new "editing bumps the thread" system should be a little more obvious. A lor of new members are still double posting. So either make it impossible to doublepost or maybe put a little text somewhere; "editing will bump the thread", is my suggestion.

It doesn't really matter though.
Posted 15 years ago2008-07-07 22:12:17 UTC Post #252218
Or make it so if the last post is yours, it will automatically edit in your additional post into the earlier one, add a little splitter or something which signifies you edited / posted additional info, and bumps the thread.

I say no. If your last post was a long one and the new one is just as long, merging them would result in plain clusterfuck.

Random "Map from the Vault" Generator suggestion:

Well for some people that are bored and want to play something, the random map vault generator (let's call it " RMVG ") will generate a random map from the map vault and a link to the page. It can also generate as many maps a s you like. Just make it sure that the number will not exceed the amount of maps in the vault.

Hope you like it mods (especially Penguinboy.).
Posted 15 years ago2008-08-25 09:28:24 UTC Post #254524
The "Top Maps" in the front page are pretty random.

The top maps is good enough, since they filter out all the crap maps. If we had a pure random map chooser, we'd get all the uncompleted, or completed but horrible maps.
Posted 15 years ago2008-08-25 11:26:29 UTC Post #254527
You're trying to say a lot of the top maps AREN'T terrible?

Seriously, theres like 15 5 star votes on some terrible maps from when you could rate your own map.

is it possible to make something where if a user double posts, it just consolodates the messages together in some way?

Also, i think the next thing to be done on TWHL is that projects part. ModDB is fail and the forums is not quite the best way to organize a mod.

That's an excelent idea , altough Pengiunboy may not agree with us because it takes some time to code . Also , if this is done , it should appear again at the begining of the thread list .

or, like regular people, you could edit the posts and stop being so lazy. (that's MY job!)

as for the random map, why don't i just update the advanced mapvault filter to include a sort by random option?

Simply allow the user to edit/delete any multiple posts, provided they're the last ones in that thread.

would map keywords be of any use, stuff like aim, temple, urban, awesome, dust, knife, not crap, etc. Just to add a little more detail to the searching of maps. there are quite a few of them.

At this risk of sounding too much like Penguinboy, I will say this:

Only stupid suggestions are refused.

Anything that isn't answered is usually taken under consideration. We've said it a million times, but Penguinboy is very busy and can only dedicate a small amount of his personal time to working on TWHL.

We have a whole list of things to be addressed, so.. patience.
