I know! More awards!!! Like:
N00b of the year
The Jerkwad award
Most loggins in a month
Most of these would be Presitguos Awards of shame, and would require a nomination and four other members to back them up.

Oh, and bring back those Login # Messages. I wish I was around to see em, and I've read that a few people want them back...

I would be willing to add one or two entities to a SoHL entity guide.
I'm sure there are others who would do the same.

Sure, If You can tell me how to contribute to em, I'll help with a Spirit entity guide. But witch version? the latest official build? (1.5a4, which I am currently using) After all, the custom builds don't always make sensible choises... :cry:

as i've said before, i can't do any code until my exams are over (in a bit less than one week), but you shouldn't expect anything straight away, i have another project going that i'm sure you guys would like more than some extra TWHL features :)

2 cents:

-Stating whether or not you are a beginner or not is a bad idea. It's way too subjectional from person to person what a beginner and intermediate are. If you want to further specify what you can do, you should just state it in your journal. If you're an "advanced" mapper, prove it in your maps profile.
[edit] This was a reply to a suggestion apparently from about a year ago[/edit]

-There should be a link to your profile from every page. Maybe have it next to the logout icon. You currently have to do this in two steps: Your Control Panel >> View your profile. I don't think it would clutter up much to add an extra icon or another line of text doing this.

-speaking of the logout icon, it looks like a person, which makes me think its a profile button. the logout person button should be a touch more obvious that is it's function

-In your maps profile, on the page that lists all your maps... if you don't want to enable a small two/three line description preview under the thumbnail, it should at least be able to show what game it is for (HL2MP, HLSP, CS, TF2, etc).

Recent forum posts on the front page should extend to recent comments on maps as well :)
Posted 15 years ago2008-11-07 02:56:21 UTC Post #258233
I don't think there's really enough space on the front page for that.

Posted 15 years ago2008-11-07 03:27:37 UTC Post #258234
I should clarify. Right now you have the 5 most recent posts from forums. Why not the "5 most recent forum posts AND map comments"? Meaning... not five from each, but 5 combined.... It wouldn't make it any larger... it would occupy the same space...

but if you feel it would update too often (with forum posts + map comments, which I dont think it would)... you could change it to be the most recent 6 posts/comments... and have each section cut off after two lines instead of three. You wouldn't be losing that many words, since the character cutoff is right in the middle of the third line anyway.... you could compact enough space to fit one more post/comment on the front page without losing any space at all!

I actually would rather see the most recent comments on maps equally or moreso than something that says "lol" in reponse to a topic I don't even know what is about. But if someone says "Wow! Great map blah blah blah" I would want to click on that comment and be interested. Its nice to keep up on what maps are hot and are not here at TWHL. :)
Posted 15 years ago2008-11-07 05:52:49 UTC Post #258235
I think it would be good with a "Recently commented maps" section that looks just like "Recent Maps".
It could be below "Recent Awards", there are lots of space there.

Well, this is a text book example of why the iframe tag was invented in the first place, but apparently some webmasters don't like using it due to the fact it requires an additional html file to display the contents, which is the same reason I try to limit it's use when ever I can. Then, there are those funky Web 2.0 scripts, like for an example a "Collapsible DIV", a "Content Glider Box", a "Switch Content Script", an Accordion Content list" and other clientside scripts like these that can also be used to display a lot of content in to a tight space. Of course, using these methods will make the webpage all that more time consuming to edit when updating it's content.

Edit update: Ah, what the hell,.....just keep it simple, after all, "simplicity is blissful".

Oh, nothing really, they are okay as long as you don't have too many of these scripts running on the same webpage, it could slow down the PC. Now, I might be wrong, but if I remember correctly from a previous post on this same thread, Penguinboy has made it known already that he does not like using these type of scripts, especially if they are not cross browser compatible, or at least that's what I understood at the time.
Posted 15 years ago2008-11-08 00:47:10 UTC Post #258254
overflow: auto is CSS and div is (X)HTML. There is no scripting involved. It is cross browser compatible. Link to an example page
<div id="example">
loooooooooooooooooooooong<br />
,<br />
and<br />
high
</div>

#example {
width: 65px;
height: 65px;
overflow: auto;
}
Ooops, that's right. I stand corrected. Also, I am not very familiar with CSS, just started recently messing with it. I am more in to just plain HTML and mashing up diffrent JavaScripts and DHTML scripts here and there.

Small profile glitch that has probably already been mentioned:

When you backup from looking at a user's single map page, it sends you to the profile table of contents rather than the map table where you began... not a big deal but a distraction just the same, especially if you're thumbing through lots of maps...

You lot make me wonder if you actually pay attention to anything the mods say. The reason most of it appears to be ignored is because Penguinboy has said umpteenth times that he wouldn't even think about coding until the end of the year, when he actually had the time to.

That and there being a lot of petty suggestions.

people that suggest "petty" suggestions don't do so to be petty, but we're all trying to make the site better, or at least i would assume that is anyone's aim who posts to this thread =|

The browser stats thing needs an update so it also displays Chrome, Safari, IE 8 and Others.
I know most people here are probably anti-Apple but Safari is a good browser like Opera and Firefox and really, people do use it.

i dont think most people apart from the maps creator really care what a maps comments are, a recent map comments box on the front page is a waste of space.

Also, a lot more dweebs comment on maps with stupid and pointless comments. Eshpeshiali stupid maps.

Idk if it's just my iphone, but when i use safari to view the site the header is all borked up.

the "The whole half life" picture (displayed top left) is lower, and sitting on top of the search box. And when you hit the click to login button, half the password box and login button are chopped off by the pic.
Here's a screenshot.

It renders fine in Safari for Windows, so it's probably a bug in the iPhone version.

Edit: Looking at the screenshot, it's probably because the scaling is off. It's scaled the text up without scaling the width of the page, so the "Check out...etc" text is pushing the header image down.

just a small idea, how about being about being able to shift your vote in the poll? I mean, take the one at the moment about "Left 4 Dead - What is your favourite campaign?". I clicked on "I don't have it. :(" a while ago, but what if ive gotten it recently (which i havent, its just an example)? or if my favorite campaign changed?
