Now that I have my graphics card upgraded, I need to decide which game to buy next.

I couldn't play BioShock before because my Radeon 9800 Pro doesn't support Shader Model 3.0

Now I can play both games with my new Geforce 7600.

Which game is better? I am leaning toward BioShock, just because I am a sci-fi fan and less of a military shooter guy.

if you want multiplayer at all, cod4 all the way. but if you only want singleplayer and nothing else, get bioshock - it's longer.

longer and with a great story. one of the best single player experiences recently. of course, no multiplayer at all which is where CoD4 shines.

The 2 games do not compare in the slightest. Get both?

Both are good but on different levels. I have Bioshock and so far I love it but I refuse to play any more of it until I build myself a new rig that will run well with the Graphics maxed out.

Haven't bought CoD4, see above reason.

I may get CoD4 on the 360 though just so that I can kick my manager's arse on Live.

I have both games installed on my rig, I play Bioshock, and my roommate plays CoD4.

I can't really say which one is better, I personally don't care much about CoD4, since it doesn't really have any story (only objectives), just marching on and killing anything that moves and isn't allied with you. But my roommate likes it, and if you're into this sort of I'm-in-a-warzone-with-mah-fellas-felling, than it's you're type of game.

Bioshock has a great storyline (as Blitzkrieg already mentioned), nice atmosphere (victorian architecture with steampunk flair), and the degree of customization is also great - you can modify you're character to match different combat styles.

Hmm...I think I am getting BioShock first.

Maybe CoD4 later, when I have more uninterrupted time for multiplayer gaming.

For now, my son only takes 30 minute naps. So I'll be making bottles and changing diapers for the rest of the day.

CoD4 will last longer due to the amazing multiplayer which Bioshock doesn't have.

And for what I've heard, the Bioshock SP campain isn't much longer than the CoD4 one?
So, if I were you, I would buy CoD4 first.

you can't have actually played it then.

It's got one of the best single player stories i've seen recently.
It really gets you caring about the characters, something which bioshock really failed to do for me.

edit:

Madcow, Bioshock's SP lasts too long.
I got to Andrew Ryan's office, saw the plot twist and stopped playing. It just got boring after that.

Actually it's got quite a basic story, it's a war shooter afterall. It's just highly cinematic so it appears to have more depth. Bioshock's story is a lot more inventive and unique, but the game is too drawn out so you sort of lose interest towards the end. They're both alright games, but I don't see them as being anything special.

I was at my friends house playing it, he wanted to show it to me so i started a new campaign, got hooked, and ended up winning. :D

Please don't get Crysis, I made the mistake of getting it, and it is just loads of eye-candy and graphics with absolutely TERRIBLE game play, complete lack of creativity in design, very short, very boring, and pretty much like Vista - Loads of eye candy, but total crap inside.

ugh. vista's not crap at all. its xp with better features + eye candy.

Shhuutt uuuup! ;O
Haven't played it yet!

IMO, the CoD4 SP campain was disapointing too.
I mean, the story is good, but the gameplay...
Most of the time you're shooting at endlessly spawning terrorists and when you relise that you're not actually doing any difference unless you walk right into the mess (which will kill you 5 times before you actually pull it off) you won't make any progress into the game.
Not worthy of those 90% at all if you ask me.
The multiplayer is good, the singleplayer however is not.

That is correct. Because, as I mentioned before:
I play Bioshock, and my roommate plays CoD4.
I'm only watching as my roommate plays it (not every single time he plays), so I might be missing on the full story, but from what I saw, you're constantly changing between the POVs of the american and british soldiers - connected with short cutscenes - following objectives (take out the tank, get to the LZ, kill Al Dunnowhat'shisname) and trying to prevent a nuclear war. The graphics and cinematics are quite respectable, but it seems too monotonous for me.

Madcow: 'Would ya Kindly' tell Satchmo to get COD4 because Bioshock lasts too long which isn't a bad thing but the fact the gameplay never changes nor does the enemies means it gets tiresome.

Although nice twist at the end ;)

Both are great games but personally I go for COD 4. The animations of models are the best i've ever seen in any game and it has a plot a lot like 24(tv programme). Also tetsuo how the hell did you beat the game in 4 hrs unless you were olaying on the lowest difficulty
Posted 16 years ago2008-02-17 13:21:08 UTC Post #245832
It's not very hard if you just keep running forward since if you do the enemies will stop spawning and no one will be able to stop you.
But that takes the fun out of the firefights

Really? CoD4 has that endless enemy spawning feature?

If that's the case, then it really destroys a game for me.

That was the reason why I didn't finish "No One Lives Forever 2". I mean, it was a great game, but the endless spawning soldiers in Siberia was just too annoying (that and having to dispose of the bodies all the time--I felt like a cross between a janitor and a coroner).

Once I kill an enemy, that should be the end of that.

Half-Life 2 has some degree of recurrent spawning, but that was only limited to certain spost (i.e. certain spots of Ravenholm).

Tell me BioShock doesn't have the endless spawning.

Yeah. But trust me when I say that the multiplayer makes up for it.
And it's not ALWAYS like that.
Some maps are like that, but when it happens it's a pain in the ass.
Keep the skill level on the two lower ones and it will be a decent challenge.
But at the hardened and veteran skill levels it's just.. guh, not worth spending time on.

Its not really an endless respawn kind of thing rather what youre supposed to do is fire on the enemy's position until you've killed enough to be able to advance. Its that simple :ciggie:

I did that and it really ruined it for me.

There are lots of moments where enemies will constantly attack until you push through and it gets very tiresome. The village level where you need to push your way down hill from the barn is one example, horrible experience that.

The CoD games have been continually disappointing to me, there's been little innovation over all the titles. If you look past CoD4's cinematics/presentation, it's still the same flawed gameplay.

Though the Ghillie missions was the biggest change i've ever seen in a CoD game, i'd pay a small fee for just those two levels. I won't say anything about the multiplayer since I won't be trying it.

Late to the party?

If you like exploring, get Bioshock, because you will do a LOT of scrounging in it.

Meh. I played it through on Hardened first time round and I really loved the entire game. It's true though, that endlessly respawning enemies are tiresome at times. Still, it forces you to constantly move forward, which is what the developers intended.

I haven't played BioShock (shitty graphics card) so I can't pass judgement on it... but CoD 4 is awesome. The multiplayer is... unprecedented win.

I am going with BioShock.

I like the exploratory style of gameplay, and I don't like endless spawning enemies.
