http://steamgames.com/tf2/heavy/

Incoming TF2 news, this week and next week will be packed with new content leading up to the Heavy Achievement pack.
  • CP_Steel is a community map added to TF2's default map list.
  • A new game mode featuring 5 arenas of play.
  • Heavy details released.
  • Another payload map focusing on more open areas.
I think the new game mod is gonna be Hunted, and if it's not, I'm gonna be slightly disappointed.

Can't wait for this huge update, regardless. I'm really liking where TF2 has been going thus far, and there's no way (ok, a small chance, anyways) they can screw stuff up.

They learned their lesson with the Pyro update and the imbalance, and it won't happen again.

Discuss.

Servers full of heavys = win
Posted 15 years ago2008-08-12 17:35:59 UTC Post #253660
If its hunted, i'm going to be so fucking happy :D

Hunted was my most favorite game mode of TFC-

Also,

Servers full of heavys = Snipers Dream

Pyros are nice too, spies as well..

Spies will be able to stab away before they can even spin up their guns, not to mention the potential following medic.

cp_steel! woot.

the new game mode with "5 arenas of play", would that be 5 new maps or 1 new map with 5 modes? guess we'll find out in a few days.

is hunted mode similar to vip mode in CS?

That didn't make sense, new game mode with 5 modes? I just think its 5 maps.

And yes, Hunted is almost the same as VIP. Although I believe the attacking team only gets certain classes, one of them being the sniper.
I also remember in TFC the map usually used for that was a level from Half-Life, the one with the torn down building type thing, and the big helicopter landing pad where an apache kept circling and dropping more soldiers.

sorry, i meant 5 sections - like how dustbowl has 3. i just read the tf2 blog entry and the way it's worded it sounds like 5 new maps. seems quite a bit tho. that's only one less than the number of maps that came out with TF2 in the first place. plus cp_steel, that makes the complete 6. that's quite a lot for valve.

Holy crap, I wasn't expecting news on this so soon! Valve are starting to up their game!

News of different themed maps brings me joy.

Yah, I got confused on that "5 arenas" thing, too.

I'm guessing it's just like Hydro, how the map changes around per round.

What Hunted is:
1. Red team escorts Blue team (not likely in a new version, colors will change)
2. Blue team is just a single person, consisting of a 'civilian' class.
3. Yellow team's objective is to kill the blue team guy and anyone escorting him.
4. Yellow was snipers only.
5. Red was limited to Heavy, Soldier, Pyro, Medic and Demoman, so no spy. (I think)
6. Civilian's weapon was an umbrella

I think it would be sweet to see the same except they change the colors, for obvious reasons, and then they allow Yellow team to also have a spy / Red to have spies.

This would be awesome, people dressing up like the Civilian only to turn out to be the spy.

it's just they way they say "arenas" and not "maps". it sounds like a way to skirt the truth while still sounding impressive.

5 maps would take Valve 12 months to release. It has to be either one map with 5 zones, or, 1 new map and 4 alterations of the old maps with the new game mode in mind.

Please for the love of God let whatever it is not be farming/industrial themed!

And in this corner we have the KGB boxing champion of the world:

I'm skeptical if those gloves are balanced, but it's gonna be a hell of a lot of fun using them.

rumor has it that the new shotgun will be a sandwich that gives 100 health, and the new minigun will do less damage and slow people down. and it is said that the new game mode is not hunted - it's some "arena" mode that is like sudden death. and a few old maps like badlands are being redone for the new type.

the same rumors got the gloves unlock almost exactly right, but who knows? some of the achievements make references to sandwiches, eating, and health - so it may be more likely than you think.

In terms of the sandwich theory, remember the Meet the Scout vid? Seems pretty plausible to me.

I dont think valve would give the heavy limited medical abilities, since they made it clear they want each class to have its own unique role.

I think if they did, it would have to be personal use, and a one use item, after which you have to get ammo or something.

This one is called "tf_heavy_kill_scouts.png", but there's also one called "tf_heavy_eat_sandwiches.png". :/

I really hope there are no sandwich medkits. Last thing Valve should do is blur the lines between each classes purpose.

Looking at the file names, coupled with the images it's fairly easy to discern each individual achievement.

If valve really wanted this to stay secret, I guess they'd put a bit more thought into it. Then again, the actual info release is, what, today? I guess it doesn't really matter.

There's an pic with a spy beeing floodlighted. Heavies having the hability to see spies? That would ruin the game.

this is probably done by valve on purpose elof, to create discussions very much like this one.

I think the sandwich instead of a shotgun is very plausible as Valve themselves at some point in a blogg entry said that they needed a way to fix so that the Heavy doesn't need a medic to survive.
In the current version, a heavy is NOTHING alone.
Giving him the ability to heal a little might be a solution to it, but then I don't think the sandwich would just give him 100 in health, it'd probably give him some other kind of a boost like critz for 30 seconds or whatever.

maybe the sandwich is a new taunt ? :P
Posted 15 years ago2008-08-14 12:33:19 UTC Post #253757
I think the sandwich has two abilities:

1. To kill things (as seen by the "Don't touch sandwich" achievement (or whatever it was)
2. To heal yourself. I doubt they'd make it able to heal others.

Way back up at PB:
"The Heavy" update is the largest update to Team Fortress 2 since it was first released as part of The Orange Box last October. In addition to offering new unlockable weapons, achievements, "The Heavy" update also includes a brand new gameplay mode and a number of new maps.
That is from Steam News.

The new map is detailed: http://steamgames.com/tf2/heavy/badwater.htm

Badwater Basin, another cart map.

I think this is gonna be awesome. Open layout, something I disliked Goldrush for not having when I first played it.

I got over that soon, though.

Woohoo, another desert themed map :!

The new minigun has got to be one of the worst possible weapons they could have presented to us.

My money was on a sort of slow firing, slug gun, but too bad.
