Also, the world doesn't need another browser. Here's what I think: Nobody really cares enough to start using it. Honestly, nobody truly uses multiple browsers except web devs anyway.

People who try to convert others from Firefox to Opera or Opera to Firefox are wasting their time. Both are great browsers and it's down to personal preference. It's the IE7, IE6, and IE5 users that need to switch immediately.

I am sorry to say this, but this too is a big waist of time. Internet Explorer's 75% market share will still stay intact, regardless of any new browsers coming out. In fact, according to what I have been reading on some web dev blogs and forums of late, it's Firefox & Opera users who are the ones downloading the most Google's Chrome, since these are the groups of people who tend to favor the latest new things on the web, thus becoming the "early adapters" to new technology. What this means, is that any increase that comes in for Chrome's market share, will be at the expense more of Firefox's and Opera's market shares than of Internet Explorer's market share on a percentage basis.

Why not? More competition is always good for the end-user. And after reading that little comic thing Google released and trying it myself, I'm actually pretty excited about Chrome.

So google's expanding. T'was a matter of time anyway and I'm more-or-less for it.
The browser seems quite decent, though not enough for me to stop using Opera. Of course, I'll give it a more decent shot when beta stages are left.

As for the whole IE vs. Opera/FF thing, picture this: If you've been force-fed shit (IE) since the day you were born like 10 years straight, it's quite natural to find switching over to normal food (Opera/FF) hard/inconvenient. Hell, most people probably wouldn't even bother and keep on consuming shit just because they're used to it. I too found FF/Opera awkward at first with all that tabbed browsing, proper page rendering etc., but soon grew over it and never looked back since.

What I'm trying to say to all you IE folks: If browsing the web peroperly is at least somewhat important to you, give the alternatives a try before going on about how IE is better. Not the usual "I switched to FF for an hour and ran back to IE afterwards crying about how confused it got me", but a day, or even better a week. If you still feel like IE after that, it's actually personal prefference. If not - congrats, you've finished your MS shit diet you've been having since Win 95.

After using Chrome for a few days, I must say I'm hooked. For my daily web browsing, I've completely switched to Chrome. The fast loading times, the non-existent RAM usage, the sexy GUI... Enough for me.

There's still a bunch of plugins from Firefox that I miss sorely, but for the daily dose of checking mail and reading RSS chrome does the job superbly.

I'm still trying to get to grips with it but in all honesty I can't see myself sticking with it simply because I've been spoilt by Opera's nifty features for the past year or so.

Namely the speed dial or the fact that it loads the pages you were on when you closed the browser (although that may be an issue for some users who would need to close the browser in a hurry, namely in the event of another person entering the room, mid-porno, and who then asks if they can use the net for a second...not that I would ever put myself in that position :rly: )

ahem...anyway.

My point is that when I close all of the tabs in a browser i now expect my speed dial to pop up, ready to lead me off to another of my favourite sites and when the browser simply closes instead it tends to rub me the wrong way and the favourite pages screen just doesn't seem to please me in any way whatsoever.

Long review short: Google Chrome creates a lingering sense of unease whilst I use it which I could easily avoid by retreating back to friendly territory.

I'm using chrome on my laptop because chrome is lightning fast in terms of startup time and the laptop sucks so it needs as much speed as possible.

But for my regular use I can't go without my firefox extensions like gmail notifier, html validator, fireftp, flashblock, stumbleupon, etc etc.

I'll keep using it every now and then tho, if user supported plugins are introduced, as well as a couple of settings options, i'll change for sure.

someone mentioned firefox extension support. i wonder how hard that'd be, given that firefox is open source, and this is google we're talking about. they could probably whip up some sort of virtual machine that loads firefox plugins.

Google Chrome has come out of the beta phase and is now available in its final release.

So far, I can already tell that the final version is even faster than the beta, and some of the minor bugs are gone.

It's one sweet browser. I no longer use my FF anymore. Chrome is my default browser.
