Phone I got: Droid X Verizon Wireless
Phone I want: ?

I've had the Droid X through Verizon Wireless for a couple weeks now.. I like it, but it's a tad to big, and is not easy to hold/type with one hand like my old Droid Incredible. I have no need for 8-megapixel camera nor the ability to shoot video in HD, so i'm thinking about returning it for a Droid 2 Global, or, i may just hold out for the Verizon iPhone in February. I'd also like to hold out for the 4g phones coming out(will the verizon iPhone be 4g?), but who knows when they'll be released (droid bionic, thunderbolt, etc)

I only need something that calls out and can send text messages, and it does that. I leave all the bells and whistles to my other devices.

I don't have a phone, any-longer. The battery died and I don't know how to recharge it.

I've heard you can get counter-strike on the droids though. They tell me it plays even better than the pc version.

Prime example of an astounding concept shot down by poor execution right here, people. I've got a love-hate relationship with this phone. Unfortunately there's nothing else at all like it on the market.

I'm also fucking sick of all those pop tart iPhone clones that have been flooding the market since the inception of Android.

Want: Nothing until a decent Android clamshell phone comes around.

For all we know it's a 8 year old phone which uses a arbitrary battery system, which you can't buy chargers for anymore. Not everybody who says they own something has got it recently.

It's a really decent PHONE and has all the features I have come to expect from a PHONE. It MAKES AND RECEIVES CALLS and has TEXT MESSAGING. ?20 on the high street.

I also have a digital camera that I use for taking photos and I have a Desktop PC and a laptop to play games and connect to the internet.

You know what's even better, though? A phone that does those things and then can do more.

It's cool if some people go with "good enough", but I don't understand how some of you people can be outright opposed to things like smart phones.

Urby, the way you worded your post makes it seem like you have some strong association between the iPhone and all smart phones. What, are we just ignoring things like the Blackberry line?

We don't need to settle for the bare minimum. We live in developed countries. We can enjoy luxuries that go beyond the essentials.

And while

I don't need them, and frankly, I don't like how smartphones are trying to blur the lines between everything. When you specialize, you generally do well. When you try to do everything, you generally suck at it all.
I'll probably change my mind about phones when I get one. But until I need one, I don't want to be one of those teenagers/20 something's obsessed with their phones.

Doing something decently is better than not doing it at all. Some of us actually needs to be able to do bank business, check timetables, news and find phone numbers on the go. The good thing about having a camera`-phone is that you'll always have it with you, since you never know when you might wanna take a picture. Carrying one gadget beats carrying around a billion.
But until I need one, I don't want to be one of those teenagers/20 something's obsessed with their phones.
I also, quite frankly, do not understand how it's possible to live without a phone. How do you contact people? Home phone?

All good points. I'd probably appreciate the features once I need them, but for where I am now, it's not even worth paying the monthly fees for a phone at all.

A phone that does more than just making calls is just another way that I can waste my time.

I would rather spend my time playing games and playing with my son.

I have a Samsung Convoy. It's tough and rugged. I picked this one because it's durable, and it has all the basic features that I want without any of the extraneous stuff.

I can use the internet on my phone, but I never do. I've never felt the need to jump on the internet while I'm out and about. We're not opposed to technology, just technology that's worthless or overpriced! Frankly a lot of today's stuff falls into those categories.

I live in the UK and I completely agree with Strider. :rly:

I am not saying that smart phones are not useful, but the prices they ask for the bloody things is outrageous. If it dropped down to say ?40 or something, and didn't cost even more money to use the net, I MIGHT be interested.

Note: My hatred for Apple goes far beyond the iPhone. I just think that it is a money-grabbing, shit-stain of a company.

Always great fun to jump on the Apple Hate Wagon, eh?

No company in the world has gotten rich simply by charging huge amounts for their products. There's always something beyond the high price that accounts for its popularity and I think everyone conveniently chooses to forget about that bit and instead concentrates on "OMG SO EXPENSIVE".

There are alot of people that are just straight up against this type of technology. I have to admit I was for awhile myself. I take Urby's side because I didn't actually get a smart phone until AT&T gave me one. I really don't stay on the phone enough to shell out the big bucks for something I rarely use.

Ultimately, I have to admit that I love my Android now and wouldn't part with it if you stabbed me, I would still hang on!

I love the ability to get on the web while I am mapping so I can find something. Most of you probably have some sort of two monitor set-up. I can't afford another monitor right now so it works out great for me.

Uhm.. Yeah, pretty much.

HAHA~! Actually, someone gave me the phone. I don't usually have phones (because, I never have anyone to call, anyhow). However, this particular case, someone had gotten a family package and they had like, 2 extra lines free, so they gave me one of them.

I had someone teach me how to change the text that appears when the phone turns on and how to change the little back-ground picture. Used the thing like.. maybe 5 times total (2 of those times were learning how to text) then it died.

R.I.P. little nokia thingo.

Want: Something lighter, with less features, and a prepaid plan. I don't pay for my plan now, but I don't like any of the phones available from our provider (Sprint). They're all too heavy, too expensive, have too many features, or are just plain goofy. I want something that calls and texts and nothing else, with a conservative no-frills design that I don't have to worry about breaking or messing up. My current phone is pretty much the closest I could get to my ideal, but it's the weirdest thing that it's heavier and thicker than my previous phone, which was going on four years old when it went through the wash and came out not quite right.

Yeah, i don't get the iPad at all, besides the touch aspect. However honestly, i can't think of many applications i'd prefer a touchscreen interface to a physical keyboard, besides some puzzle-style games like word feud.. (and maybe a TRON-style keyboard app which might pwn)

)

On a phone, there is no easier way to browse a webpage than with a touch screen, a feature on my phone which i use ALL THE TIME. (also very useful for changing your POV during navigation, and a few other things) Mostly though, if it' weren't for browsing webpages, i'd have absolutely no use for a touchscreen phone, and would be content with the clamshell/slider style any day of the week.. (i really miss my old LG EnV phone, i could text blindfolded with that thing)

)
