Hi im trying out various tutorials and next its terrain so i tried the vertex editing method. not bad but i wanted to try displacement but i dont have the option any one know why?

Gold source engine is from 1998.

Try using Nems terrain generator:

I've never tried Nem's, but i know Twister is pretty easy to use.

Goldsource doesn't have displacements in it, only source which is Half-life 2 and on. Your best bet is to use a generator like Nem's or Twister above that can create displacement-style stuff and save it in terms of normal brush work. Goldsource can use that stuff.

Twister will convert displacements from a Source VMF file into a bunch of triangles for a HL1-compatible MAP file. Be warned, though: That'll create a LOT of triangles! You will get a performance hit if you're not careful.

Also, can you please name your threads more appropriately?

A title like "Displacements in Goldsource" would be better than "Another dumb question". :)
