I will upload the map in... perhaps 2 hours maximum, if nothing bad happens. Man, final compiles do take a long time to finish.

[EDIT] Vrad.exe crashes if I try to compile with HDR :\. Out of luck. LDR :(.

It's a known error.

1. Open up the Run Map dialog (File -> Run... or F9) in Hammer.

2. If not already in "Expert Mode", click the "Expert" button in the bottom left of the dialog.

3. Select "HDR Full Compile" from the Configuration pull-down.

4. Select the 3rd item down, it should say "$light_exe -both -game $gamedir..."

5. In the text box labeled "Parameters", along the right of the dialog, change the switch "-both" to "-ldr". It should now read "-ldr -game $gamedir $path$file"

6. Click the "New" button to create a new command in the configuration and select the new blank command at the bottom of the list.

7. Press the "Move up" button twice to move the new command to right under the command you just edited.

8. Enter into the text box labeled "Command": $light_exe or use the "Cmd" button to the right and select the "LIGHT Program" option for the drop-down menu.

9. Into the Parameters text box enter: "-hdr -game $gamedir $path$file"

Thank you. I will take this into consideration in the future, now I already uploaded the map. Meh, HDR wouldn't have made a huge improvement anyway.

Btw, we should review the maps or something and then try to guess the authors. Also, those of us who feel they can push the project further should be let to do so( like creating a short campaign or perfecting the current map).

Simply restarting hammer and recompiling, seems to do the trick for me when i get that problem striker.

Indeed, this is a very-fun community coop project.

I think it was talked about to give out community coop project organizer awards, but i don't quite remember and i just may be stoned =)

Wow, VHLT. Compile time reduced by ~3 times, wonderful lighting, far more detailed error reports? Fucking amazing.

I think mine's actually finished. Couldn't have cut it any closer. :D

EDIT: Yup, all done. Thanks to Caboose for giving it a quick test. PM'd the link to Tetsu0. :]

Don't forget the fact that with VHLT ur map's size is also 50% smaller, and you can add entities like func_detail. Btw you're just finding out about vhlt? D:

Aw nooo, 50% smaller??? Now I have resized it all! Made doorways 128 x 192 instead of 64 x 96, houses twice as high etc etc... Oh well, finished it now. Just took me 6 hours!! Thx for the heads up Skals!

Everyone check your stockings inboxes.
There are some people who unfortunately did not recieve gifts :( I'm sorry about that. But it's the spirit of giving that counts.
I was going to try to cover those who were supposed to recieve something but I could not.
I did manage to get one done, however.

Anyway. I hope everyone likes their gifts!!
Now try to figure out who they came from!!!

I received my gift piece of art. I offered a praising description on the map in the map vault, I couldn't really offer a comprehensive review because it's just one area but... it is beautiful, I have nothing to object( after all, it's a gift).
I am just stunned...
Thanks, Captain Terror! (my guess - if it's somebody else, still the same thanks!)

I knew about them for a while now, but only just got around to trying them out yesterday. Not going back to SHLT/ZHLT, that's for sure. Didn't know about the map size thing though, that's awesome.
But it's the spirit of giving that counts.
Agreed, had a blast making mine.
And thanks so much for hosting this, I'd say it was a success even w/ people dropping out. It gave the place a nice holiday buzz. :glad:

Then I guess it's time to say goodbye to good ol' ZHLT/SHLT and welcome VHLT. I haven't tried it yet but i will as soon as i have something to map again.

I'll update my Compilator to benefit from the new features it offers. :)

Also, what does VHLT stand for? Merely out of curiosity, as I don't map for goldsource anymore.

I might compile a list of changes he's made to the tools in the future, I've been talking to the guys on those forums for a while, finding out about all the new entities and features he added, I'll pass that knowledge to you guys a bit later on.

Wow, the map i got was super awesome, i have no words, the ending is so amazing, classic HL mapping ;_;

Makes me feel like a total bastard for forgetting...

I enjoyed my map very much, it was built well, great mapping, plus a good old HL like story. The end room was absolutely amazing, the way textures were used to present a big city when looked trough the window, the animated tv screen, WHICH MAY I ADD LOOKS VERY FAMILIAR >_> <_<, and the NES console, ooh god the NES console. I love you secret santa! ^_^

Hmm still cant quite remember who the person with a certain anime avatar was it, search mode activated!

When Tet said that some people did not receive gifts I felt guilty. D:
Well I will resume work on my entry as soon as I can, lateness be damned. Thankfully before the HD failure the rmf for my entry reached Joe's hands. If I can't salvage anything then at least that's safe.

I failed to turn in my entry, but I also didn't receive one, so it's a net loss of zero. As if I wasn't part of it.

Hey everyone!
First of i would like to thank everyone who has participated in the Secret Santa. Unfortunately there was about a 50% completion ratio for the maps. This is due to many factors, I'm sure: The new compo was announced about 3 days after i gave a due date for these maps. Many of you are in school, and this was the time of year for finals and such, The holiday season is a very busy time, and your immediate friends and family must take priority over your online interactions.
Secondly, I've said that i was going to try to cover for the people who couldn't enter. Sadly, this did not happen because of all the reasons mentioned before, AND quite frankly, i did not expect so many people to drop out. :(

The people who have made a map and received a map:
-Archie
-C Striker
-Scotch
-doggybag
-X-LAyer

The people who have made a map and have NOT received one in return:
-Jeffmod
-Urby
-Captain Terror

Some people got lucky, some people got unlucky, some people got really lucky (One member received 2 maps somehow - I'm still figuring that one out - both have not been delivered yet, however)

Anyway, I believe that members on the second list (mappers & un-receivers) deserve some sort of recognition for their efforts.

CT, Urby, Jeff, PM me - I have presents for you :glad:
