Moved my mapping activity on the laptop for now. Odd and annoying problem: I can't select brushes\faces from up close. It's as if they have some kind of specific point where I can only select them, or from a great distance, but that is clearly not the solution.
I suspect it has something to do with the Intel Drivers perhaps? I have an Intel HD4000 graphics on my laptop and Nvidia 650m ( hl1 is forced to use HD4000, idk why, but it works fine anyway).

I sometimes have that problem. Do you have to be far away from the brushes, or just not right up against them?

There seems to be a minimum selecting distance, where if you're within that distance then it will select the brush behind the one in front of you, or none if there are none behind it.
It might be different between different versions of Hammer, or different graphics cards or something.

I have the same problem with Intel HD and ATI mobility Radeon.
The Intel HD driver maybe does not work with VHE.
I can force my system to use the ATI card for all applications by denying to switch to Intel-drivers in Catalyst. Maybe there's a similiar solution on NVIDIA-systems.

I've only ever used one laptop that didn't spazz out in Hammer, and that was back in 2002.

It's always been a problem for me.
My only solution was to rotate the camera so the face was far enough from the center of the screen.

Its a pain :(

Me too since the beginning of my mapping. Is it really a problem? What you could do is to keep left-clicking and it will select all the brushes you have in your target.

There has always been a minimum distance Texture Properties will let you select faces, but you should be able to get pretty close normally, and still be able to select faces.

If your scene is really big with lots of objects, there may be a lag-time between when you left-click and the when the brush actually shows up selected (if this was actually the case, you can turn down the viewable distance under options to speed it up).

Or maybe hammer just doesn't like you ;)
