I've always wondered how this could be done if at all in HL. I'd like to have permanent health and armor upgrades scattered around my modification adding up to +100 for both health and armor (making each max out at 200) if you get every single one of them throughout the mod. As for how much each pickup gives the player that's still up in the air, but I'm curious as to how to go about doing something like this; storing it in a save file and all that jazz.

Do you mean an item that increases the maximum health or armor?

Indeed. It'd be picked up in the world and would increase the maximum health and armor permanently (until you start a new game).

I think it would be easy enough - when it gets picked up set a flag on the player that picked it up to increase the maximum health.
You'd possibly need to add save/restore support but there's plenty of examples to copy+paste.
