Following on from the success of Jessie's func_vehicle jam, I've got another mapping challenge to occupy our bored, locked down minds for the start of 2021. (Aus and NZ can take part too, despite having pretty much figured this whole Covid thing out).

In honour of working from home, the goal of this mapping challenge is to turn your workspace/bedroom/home office into a classic padman-style rats map.

Scale is up to you, although being actually fun to play is important so I recommend making it big enough to be a good deathmatch arena.
We want to see creative use of items to aid navigation, a clever use of the furniture for routing and of course photos for comparison!

This map jam will end on the 21st of March 2021, plus the obligatory 2-week extension.
Jessie will stream the entries, as per, and makes a special request to also include theme-accurate func_vehicles which i wholeheartedly do not condone.

Feel free to use any Goldsource or Source game, singleplayer or multi. If we get a bunch of HLDM maps I'll put them on a server as per usual, though.
You could even make a rats rats map, although that might break the universe.

I need to finish The Core dude...

Wait... Wait, you also need to do that!

That is to say "I'm in."

There's a fair few people involved in this on Discord, but just to give it the best chance I'm gonna extend it to March

I don't know about padman, but the idea of a rats rats map sounds intriguing... Maybe I'll start working on something.

In all seriousness, I'd love to participate but man.... My productivity skyrocketed in the wrong direction.
[EDIT] I also took a good look at my room.

Yes Archie what a cool idea it was. I'm sure the effect could be done much more smoothly.

True Jessie, it's crazy the amount of work under our belts these days.

Archie, in my latest map, I did a cool effect with the speaker textures. Just blur it in photoshop and make it animated so it looks like the speakers are moving. Or maybe you could make the speaker part vibrate quickly.

Oh lol, well you do contribute in your own ways like making very entertaining map play throughs and stuff. Regardless Hammer is a great modeling tool in general and I guess that's why i've used it so much.

Work got absolutely crazy so I haven't had time to work on this for a week or so. Really looking forward to finishing it. I think my racing chair will be the next big challenge.

You going to make this a cs map? That chair looks fun to map. At such a large scale you could make the stripes their own geometry. I'd map out the basic geometry to scale and then vm it up. I'm sure you could make it look fantastic! If you make it for cs, i'd recommend the players start mid or top, not floor level. The server I play in has parachute mod. :D

Edit: Work comes first though i'm sure we can all agree!

It's primarily going to be HLDM, but I'll probably do a version for CS

Sorry for the offtopic but I have a few burning questions:

1. How many km/h (m/h) can you get work done at with this chair?
2. Do you see any increase in fuel costs?
3. What helmet do you reccommend?

Thank you.

Great questions.

I use the wheel for scrubbing forward and backward through footage. The gear paddles are used to Mark In and Mark Out (engage with clutch to Go To In or Go To Out) and the pedals are used to cut, trim or roll as needed. With this setup combined with the chair, I can usually edit at around 300kph

2. Absolutely, that's the one down-side. I wanted to go all-electric, but the tech is still too expensive.

3. Whilst in Premiere Pro, I use a replica of Lando Norris' 2020 Silverstone grand prix helmet designed by a six-year-old.
