i keep getting this error whenever i use sounds trough an ambient generic:

missing RIFF/WAVE chunks
"soundfilewhatever" is a stereo sample

i really need help on this cos it hinders my map for the project (to be completed on may 15th). i have unpacked the sounds and everything is good, as far as i know.

??
As far as I can remember The Project didn't allow custom sounds....

The file you are using in your ambient_generic is in Stereo...
All original HL sounds are mono.
Suggest you select a wav file that is part of the original HL sound folder.

If it was indeed not custom and in the hl folder,
it should be mono.

Have you setup the ambient_generic right?
Wav name: ambience/zapmachine.wav

Yes I think you have

Why unpack it from the pak file? If it's not a custom sound, leave it there! I don't get the point here of why to unpack...

u dont hav 2 unpack the sounds? then how do u tell the ambient generic which sound?

Just use a path as you would normally, e.g. "grunt/blah.wav" or "ambience/spark.wav" (I made the filenames up).

my mod called "mcyorian el ultimo disc-jockey" ("mcyorian the last dj" in english) uses custom sounds...( all voices are in spanish with real actors!) but you have to convert any wav file to a 8 bit mono wav 11.05khz

Have you succeeded yet, ministeve?
Posted 19 years ago2004-05-10 16:18:53 UTC Post #26342
not tried yet. one thing. should i delete everyithing in the sounds folder and link to there for the sounds from the pack (as suggested in monkeys post)?
Posted 19 years ago2004-05-11 01:51:50 UTC Post #26416
It doesn't make any difference whether the sounds are packed or not, just use directory/filename, in the format I said. You may need the .wav extension on the end of the filename, do that if the sounds don't play.

"Developer 2" is a useful code ;)

path/wavename.wav

Oh, you can just type ambience/hammer.wav, HL automatically searches in the valve/sound folder already.

the erros are gone, but can you hear sounds that are in proximity to the camera being used but not near the player?

i can do anything with sound jejejeje im just trying to avoid the dopler effect on half llife when you use the ambient_generic

note that the voice of HEV suite is not affected by doplerr effect!

Of course it's not. The speaker would be remaining at the same position relative to the player.

mcyorian, what the hell are you talking about!? stop acting like such a know-it-all with sounds! u bin here for 29 days and i havent seen any of your work! and whatever u said didint answer the question.

so if the speakers at the player the sounds must be near him/her? ill try that.
