I'm just about finished making this HL map for my University Project, but I wanted to know if it was possible to get a birds eye view of the map, similar (if not the same as) to when you get killed in Counter-Strike and scroll your different views.

If anyone could help me out with this, that would be great.

Just make your skybox taller, load the map and toggle the noclip on, go up to one of the top corners and look down at your map then click printscreen, and there you have it... Is this what you mean? Or do you want an overview of your map?

I don't think He wants an overview, And seeing that he wants a bird eye view kinda says its an outdoor area, so why would you not want a skybox. Keep it simple zombie--lol.

A skybox is an all-encompassing hollowed box textured with sky. It is foolish and impedes performance both at compile- and run-times. A sky brush is one brush textured with "sky" and is sufficent for any outdoor scene without imparing the engine. Read the Glossary. Possibly a dictionary will be necessary too, I'm in a wordy mood.

Or maybe he wants a movie-like effect, wich can be achieved with a trigger_camera following a trail of path_corners, and focusing on a func_train that follows a trail of path_corners too...

when you get killed in Counter-Strike
I think he does want an overview, as that is the first thing you see when killed in CS.
So follow ZombieLoffe's advice and read the tutorial.

Scrolling your different views?
Do you mean following the other players?

Lol, yeah I'm back, I was away this weekend on business, so I didn't really have a chance to get back to the forum.

Back, now, could someone show me what a Skybox is please with a screenshot? But so far an Overview looks good to me, just I don't want the additional data text shown on the top left of the link provided by ZombieLoffe.

try the null texture on everything's roof and then play it! go real high with noclip and take a screenshot! that would be easy! :D

Shoot, I forgot the mention one last problem though, the level is just a 6 roomed building, so its all under a roof. So zooming out with no clip won't really help.

I can give a link to the bsp and rmf files if anyone needs them to try help me out here.

Another note, the rooms are really basic with flaws, but that's because this level I will be turning into 200 screendumps to stream through a 2D Game Engine I designed in Uni.

But after this, I will be starting a few more maps in Half-Life as a bit of a hobby while helping a friend making a mod for Half-Life (I'll mainly be doing the programming though, lol)

Need more info, then just post. I'm home for a quite a while now finishing assignment work, so I'll be online most of the time.

Instead of dev_overview 1, type dev_overview 2. It does away with all those numbers.

But since my map is indoors and has a roof, will i be able to see through the roof and see inside the house or should i move the roof temporarily so I can see inside?
