You sound like coolfat when he's yelling at CP for no reason.

You can't just come here asking things like 'My car doesn't start, help me!' and except everybody to guess immediately what the cause for the problem is.
If you really want help, you'll have to explain your problem a bit.
Not everybody has your computer with your settings and your map with your problem.
What do you mean by stuped? You could take a screenshot and post it here.
Nobody will help you when you start to spam.

I don't know what in my post leaded you to asking how old I am.
I'll not take it as an insult, though it's a bit offending
I tried to explain to you why everybody reacted so repelling.
My post was aimed at helping you. If you don't want any help, why did you post here?
Oh, to answer your question, I am 18 years old.
i sayed you know what i mean because i thaught it happened on everyones comp :(
You can never assume that things look and act equaly for everyone.
That's why I told you to explain your problem a little closer.

I was offering honest advice posting that page. While we're not as unfriendly as the hackers documented there, the same rules apply to phrasing your questions.

i dont have a leg to stand on when it comes to helping people, because i am new at this. But lets go back to your first post.

i was making a cliff and theres water at the bottom of it but when i look at the water from way up there it looks stuped, you know what i mean... i mean ive tryed making the water more transperent which makes it ok but i was just wondering if there is any other way to fix this

Note the part ...when i look at the water from way up there it looks stuped..

Are you trying to say "from far away, the water looks dull / 'Stupid' / doesnt move et?

yes / no ?

Dear mappers of this website,
I was in the game of half life... also known as "IN GAME PLAY" and i decided to consider that my map was seeming to be coming which you could consider quite ediquite to what a real cliff would look life in real life. In life that we live in in other words, so to say i hit my friendly bind key and it was possibly possible for my to possibly hover(what i would call float)...in other terms.,.,.,up to the top of the cliff. While up there"my crazy side took over and i decided to JUMP alllllllll the way off the cliff into the water ...there where i would meet my fish i made out of masked texture... (OH YEA HES A BIG FISH...)look up pictures of alligator gars on google... man those things are in creeks, and i always swim in creeks where bigfoot lives. when i peeked over the mountain that i had created using world craft editor/vertex munipulation i saw the water and jumped back so far i fell off the other side... I was asstonished to nothice the water wasnt its old jumpy self again and it was cut up into many many more squares to where you could actualy see every bit of the water rather than just the top of he waves... its kind of hard to explain but it also dint look solid at all on the edges it was more of a flashy water look.so i was wondering if you people from this website that i posed on to find out about water that doesnt look right to be able to fix my water that doesnt look right would have possibly been able to possibly lend me a helping hand that would help me with my problem about the water that i was having so i posted a question to see if anyone could helpp... thank you
scincerely,
Dr.seuss

That was almost as bad. At least you actually described the problem. Maybe a screenshot would help?

Are you talking about a sort of venetian blinds effect?

i think, your problem is caused by the following:
1. you shouldn't be able to drop behind a cliff, or float up there so you can sit on the top of it anyway; unless it's meant to be accesable without gravity alterations. then your map making is poor and you should lower the height of the cliff edge that you can reach (without gravity alterations). because water always looks dodgy from a distance, especially if you've used 1 big square brush (of water) that sits inside several other brushes (the cliffs/mountains of which you spoke).
this is noticable mostly in the final boss in halflife, when you get shot up into the air, look at the boost pads, they are flush with the water texture and therefore start to have lines accross them where the two textures are "merging".

2. make the sky box directly connect to the top of the cliffs, so even with gravity alterations the player cannot possibly get behind the cliffs, or to any places where he/she can see your poor map making.

3. if you are viewing it from far away, then it really doesn't matter, because the player will never get into that position in a normal game. when mapping it is important to remember that what the player sees and what is actually there are often very different things. for instance, it is tempting to alter the x-axis of the top of your cliff brushes, but this might not be neccesary, as depending on where a player stands, the cliffs will look different anyway, and give the impression of variation even though they are plain flat cliff tops.

4. a screen shot of the problem would help us a lot. use www.imageshack.us (infinitely free hosting, max 750kb file size - support it today =D)

5. don't attack people here, even noobs, it' unbecoming and arrogant. that goes for everyone, even me (sorry coolfat lol ;) )

when i sayed i fell off the cliff i wasnt seriouse~~ ~and that whole speech was kinda a joke too if no one can help me just say so i dont excpect everyone to know the answers to everything

omg, you noob (lol, there goes the no-flaming policy), if you can't make sense out of what i said then you need to post a screen shot of the EXACT problem, with a reasonable description of what you want to fix. also, post the problem area in the Problem Maps section of teh Map Vualt. use www.imageshack.us to host your screenshot. and don't be such a lame arse.
