Hey all. I started working on a map that has so far been quite successful. The layout is beautiful, and I'm having fun making it. Anyways, I compiled the map, and everything seemed fine. But when I created a game to test my map (Half-Life Counter-Strike), I kept getting an error:

Warning: couldn't open steamapps.wad

This is really bugging me because I did not delete any file in the folder, let alone a file by the name of steamapps.wad, so I don't know what is causing the error.

All help would be appreicated :) Thanks

Aright so I tried to compile with Zoner's Tools using -wadinclude to include steamapps.wad. Apparently, that didn't work either. I checked the log file and this is what it says (sorry it's reeeally long!):

Oh, yes, that's interesting...

First, scale down the amount of wad files you're using to below 8. It should be harmless to have more but when you get errors, it may be the cause of them.
Then, fix the leaks in your level.
Then, check the Hammer help files on how to properly set up Hammer. You're running some compile programs multiple times wich shouldn't be done.
First, run HLCSG, then HLBSP, then HLVIS and then HLRAD.

Don't put "-wadinclude blah.wad", just "-wadinclude blah".

I didn't put the .wad in my -wadinclude....I wrote:

-wadinclude steamapps SafeRoom

My question about this is for the name of my map above (SafeRoom), must I include .map, .rmf, or .bsp at the end?

I also removed all of the textures except for the one I'm using, and when I compile, the error log comes out the same way, as if I am still using those textures...

um you sure the whole thing is set up to lead to steam?? It seems like your trying to run a steam game through 1.5 maybe?

That's all. Do not specify in what map it should be included as it's clear to the compile tools were they should include this .wad file in. After all, you compile a map... so the wad file gets included in that map... obvious, isn't it? ;)

Oh wow....the simplest of things are always right! Captain I did what you said and it worked! The only reason I wrote the map name was because that's what it said to do on a website. :P Thanks a lot for all of your help every one :)
