I am new to Cs(half life) mapping and i'm not sure what is the latest version of hammer. I dowloaded hammer editor before but it was so crap, i think it was an older version. I i'm used to the unreal ed 2004 so im not sure wat to expect. Could someone please tell me wat is the newest verion :

Hammer comes in two different flavors. The newest, 3.5beta has more functions like model viewing in-editor but is less stable than the most final release version, Hammer 3.4.

As for Hammer being crap, well, that's what all editors for Solid-World Geometry games are like. It's easy to learn with a bit of practice though, (This is coming from a RED Vet!), just be sure to read the tutorials here and you should have the basics down in no time :) .

I see why you think Hammer is crap if you've mapped with UED, which is quite an exceptional editor, especially the latest version. Hammer looks, and is somewhat simplistic in comparison, but then HL1s Quake based engine isn't exactly much compared to the Unreal Engine. In short - it does what it's there for very well, and get 3.5beta. :)

I use both. Hammer 3.4 for nearly every mapping work, Hammer 3.5b for model alignment. Works well, although a finished and tweaked 3.5 would off course be better.

But hey, Half-Life 2 is coming, so why complain about 3.5 not getting finished? We're getting 4.0! :)

I don't reckon they'll bother finishing 3.5.

Just the same? Don't think so... although the layout and basic functions would be the same, some tools definitely aren't... :P
