...

Just change the splash.

... I think It should be TWHL orange, with all of our avatars as the foreground. Although that may not look very profesional...

Maybe all of our avatars with a black backround, blended together in a swirl, like my av?

Oh my god, please no.
I was thinking some hl1 artwork with the text TWHLmix on it.
I mean, does it really have to have something to do with TWHL? It wont be pretty.

looks good.

Although it doesn't have much significance to TWHLmix...
Posted 19 years ago2005-01-12 17:48:42 UTC Post #83409
and? it doesnt have to.

It needs to be proffesional. And it does have significance to Half-lIfe, though...

Anyone who's getting impatient, I'm working on it, ok? However, I don't really have much time except at weekends. I might finish it this weekend. If not, it'll be the one after. Definitely.
Posted 19 years ago2005-01-12 18:42:50 UTC Post #83419
I like this one, http://m0px.net/zl/pics/twhlmix/splash1.jpg only the interlace should be thinner.

And more background gfx instead of the black.

Otherwise its great ;)

Vassy, map as hard as you can, the average player decides if they like a map or game or not within the first few minutes of play, and the first few scenes. No pressure on you whatsoever btw. ;)

I like the first one, but I don't like it being called PT.2

Its not really part 2, since 1 really didn't have an absolute storyline.

I would like it if it was "TWHLmix 2", maybe with the two like a squared sign like in HL2/
Posted 19 years ago2005-01-13 04:22:53 UTC Post #83475
I thought about that, but I don't reckon we should do that until we do the actual TWHL one. You can do a superscript three just as easily.

TWHLmix?

I think then it'd be more distinctive.

Look, now I'm getting harassed about those f***** bastard essays they want me to do. I'm sorry about this, they realised I didnt actually bother to do 'em ages ago and now they are harassing me.

I dont know what to say really, I may have to drop out TWHLmix -- too much bastard college work.

Maybe I'll be last or something, but I just havent got any free time these days.

I like the Logo, but I think you are drawing too much attention to the G-man, who may or may not be a feature in the mix ;)

I would use that Logo, in the other backround.

(BTW, don't use the G-man in your maps, I have a supprizing ending, no matter what the storyline is :D )

I don't think it a good idea to start throwing splash screens all over the thread already.
Firstly: I think, it should refer to the actual maps, so we should build them and then make the splash image.
Secondly: It should look professional. I don't want to belittle you, but do really want one of those 5 minute experiments as a splash screen?
It's okay that more than one person wants to make one, that way we can choose from a couple versions, but you should not treat this lightly.
Posted 19 years ago2005-01-13 17:22:25 UTC Post #83568
The splash screen should be the last thing...

That way, we know what the story line is so we can decide what is going to on the splash.

Everyone wants to create his little part and everyone wants it to be a surprize...

But don't you think cooperating and sharing your idea's will get you much further? Letting your fellow mappers playtest your part so you can give the public a bug-free surprize instead of some nasty 'surprizes'? Letting your fellow mappers adapt to your part, and vice versa, so to create a more consistent gameplay experience, one that flows nicely? One that is actually fun to play and encourages the player to continue?

Now I know this is basically meant to let everyone add his own little piece, but if you want a good result, you should go further than that. I didn't really enjoy TWHLmix, and I know as a mapper myself that seeing the public despising your map doesn't satisfy you... I don't want to spend my time on something that'll become crap and badly playable, instead I want to invest my time in something that is fun to create as well as it is fun to play.

Then again, you decide wich way to go...

CptP; The rules are you must adapt the theme of your map to the previous' users map, in order to create a smoother gameplay and overall theme.

You made all valid points. No big surprises for the Team! Sure, throw in some shit here and there for the "big crowd", but for the team, lets make it all cards out.. erm.

I know. I just think it's better to implement it in the whole, instead of just looking at the previous and next parts only.
You see, brainstorming sessions can go a long way. Generating idea's, encouraging each other in doing so, and afterwards selecting the best ones can give better results than thinking up on things yourself while being limited by the previous and next part.
Read up on Valve's Cabal system if you want to, it surely explains this method more in-depth. It offers some valuable insight.

Brainstorming? Ideas? Plot? Concept?
Lets just get on with the mapping ;)

Eventually If we keep taking the steps that Captain P said, we will create a MOD. Do you see that we are rearing further and further from what TWHLmix really is to makeing a full drawn out MOD? Everyone gets to do their thing, and add on what they want, not one set thing that everyone has to do. This gives much more freedom to the mappers to really make a part theirs, since they came up with the idea.

As I said, If someone wants to get help with their map, then so be it, they can do whatever they want, but we are not going to sit down and say "Alright, so heres the storyline we all have to follow".

The purpose of this is to see how each person progresses the map by adding their own little part, this way when we play we get a variety of mapping styles, as well as an interesting storyline.

This will not be like TWHLmix1. The rules have been revised, and we have much more control. All the maps go through me rather than everyone just passing it along. We also have better mappers, ones who really can create a great peice of work. We also have more collaboration that before. Maybe if you had a copy of the rules, you'd understand more of what we have done to change TWHLmix to make this go smoother.

This will not be another TWHLmix1, this is a new brand of mix. This will succede, and will be much better than before. I know that we can make this work, since we all are intelligent, talented, mappers.

Lets cut the chit chat and start mapping.

Captain P,

What the hell is that?

Oh, and P, if you joined now, you probably wouldn't have to map until June or late May. If your busy, then you can be moved down the list.

BTW, ZL, do you need to be moved down the list still?

That is actually an OpenGL rendered heightmap, created with a hex-editor. Not the most easy way, but serves fine for testing purposes so far...

Wich means I'm busy writing a basic terrain engine. And that'll probably keep me busy for quite some time.

Though I could add something to the mix2, as I have some snippets of code for a custom hud and an extra health and armor item lying around somewhere (including sprites and models for them), but I don't know if that's what you want. After all it has more or less been decided that the code won't be modified, right?

In case you're getting impatient, I am still working on it. I haven't given up and don't intend to. I just haven't had much time (coursework). However, I've finished my coursework now so I should be able to do some more. It is nearly done though.
