If you've got Steam, which you must have, to have HL2, then use the Half-Life GCFs with Steam? Open them in GCFScape.

"It is illeagal to upload those files."
does that mean i can`t upload the content with my map so thers can play it?

You don't need to upload standard content with your maps. It'd be pointless, irritating, and would grossly embiggen the filesizes needlessly.

You may upload a mod, you may upload a map, but you may not upload official files like the pak file.
It contains most of HL.

It's illegal to use CS:S models in HL2 maps :)

Just use HL textures as a reference to build your own. Sure, it's going to take a while before you can draw good-looking textures, but in the end, it's worth it. Level-design more and more becomes a multi-skill task these days.

Illegal?? Where's that specified, habboi?

Distributing content from within the .gcf files seems to be illegal. Go read the eula, I think it's in there.

i can make good hl1 textures and stuff and have so i am going to go back to mapping for HL1. much easyer to make textures and maps in genral. 1 thing. can hammer 4.0 be set up to make HL1 maps. (if not i`ll just use 3.5 beta)
Posted 18 years ago2005-09-09 11:33:50 UTC Post #133472
still. can it be done with hammer4?
Posted 18 years ago2005-09-09 11:37:53 UTC Post #133475
Use Hammer 3.4 or 3.5b for HL mapping. Hammer 4.0 is for HL2. Only architecture is portable between the two.

hammer 4 just had some nice features ( like showing the dimentions of things selected on the grid). 3.5b still good

I tried getting 4.0 to work for HL1 but failed...Plus imagine Displacements in HL1 :

Heh, yeah, Seventh.

And they lag less than vm'ed terrain because of an optimized rendering. Probably triangle strips or such.

HL1 is mainly indoors so displasments were not needed so never invented for HL1
