why should he aim higher? cs deathmatch is as low as it gets. it doesnt matter what sort of map it is, detail makes it look much better. half life was a fast paced fps, why did it need detail? because it wouldve looked stupid without it. same for cs, dod, sc, opfor, bshift and any other mod.
unless the map is physically uncomplete (i.e. gaping holes or something) it can be classified a completed map Prickly Pimple. Give him some slack
But a cube with an info_player_start entity enclosed could be considered complete. I hope you wouldn't consider that an acceptable map for placement in the completed maps section!
why do people say "this is good for a first map"? What is the point to that? A person who has never made a map before may have visualised what they wanted to make for ages before actually making a map before &/or read heaps of tutorials. Also, some people probably don't consider a cube with an info_player_start entity enclosed to be a proper map so it mightn't actually be their first map to be compiled.

+Gameplay is nice, although a tad easy +Texturing is fairly decent. +Gotta love the flashlight +-Architecture is at times great, and at times very blocky. -Red is very very bright. I say dim the red lights, makes the place a bit darker, and more scary. Make them not so red as well, it looks.... un-natural. -Monsters are set to scare people. IMO, there are times where they should be hid better. Monsters hid behind crates which I could see and just grenade to death are not scary.
I didn't notice any spelling errors in the Game_text Rabid..
Fun, a tad more tweaking should make this a great map.

there is no way I'm going through and fixing every zombie that's stuck in the ground! some words of advice Reigy:
-Never place monsters or entities on the ground, place them about 16 units above the ground, don't worry, they won't be floating, because they'll fall down.

Pros
+ Gameplay is good, balanced, never a flood of enemies or lack therof. + Bull board in first room looks cool . + Some nice detail like the flashlight
Cons
-Lighting! A bit more color and less red would look 100 times better. Darker, in the room at teh end, would look good too. -Game_text has spelling errors. Not too huge of a deal, but would look good fixed. -Not too much detail. It shows in some spots, but is bland in others. -Architecture is very square! May I suggest a look at the detailing half-life textures example maps? Those might help here.
Overall: Off to a good start, but needs some more work. Rating: ** 1/2.

okay, but a few flaws, the rooms are VERY dark, you can barely see your hand infront of you The flashlight near the dead sci looks way too big it's almost impossible to get on the pipe to the other part.
Overall a good level.
GOOD THINGS: +Nice Architecture +Game_Text's Used! +Monster placement isn't over used +Some attention to detail
BAD THINGS: -Lighting is poor in some areas -The pipe at the end, it is nearly impossible to get on it

The level has no sky, just a BLACK texture.
Since r_speeds are fairly low, id take a look at ZombieLoffe's texture example maps and see if you can do it with the textures in this map, it would add lots more depth.
Game_texts are easy to do. Place a pointentity and change the type to game text. Then set the options and trigger it when you want text to appear.

hmmm.... well i've played it, and i have to say, it's good for your first map. though some monsters have the yellow-swirly disease. And you don't have to submit the .rmf or any of the other files, just the .bsp but since you did submit the .rmf, we can easily fix the yellow-swirly disease, the textures are a bit off, but i have to say, good-job. This is good for your first map. But maybe you could put a endgame text instead of the rooftop end thingie. and take that xen tree from inside the housie thingie, it pops up from the roof, anyway my score:
GOOD THINGS:
+alot of monsters +trees fit in niceley
BAD THINGS:
-I dont think the level has sky, is that the void? -texturing needs some work

hmm... i think i have the solution, if the texturing on the outside of the map is the SKY texture, re-texture it. The Player will fall if the sky texture is on the outside of the map.

Ive done that kind of thing before but it definitely increases r_speeds, but considering it wasnt being looked at in a speeds perspective, its very nice.

It should be detailed because although the gameplay may be good, there are maps with equally good gameplay and better detail, so your map will get overlooked and unplayed.

3 Stars.

-don't include all the worthless files in the zip

-include a sky (but not a skybox)

4 stars
I made this map to scare people. guess non of you guys got scared. (or did you?)
You can have monsters stuck in walls without crashes.
It's good for a first map. Although it needs more attention to scale on things like the door at the begenning, its a good start.
lucky you included the .rmf!
i installed HD and it worked fine.
