It's good fun! Except I am no good with grenade.
First attempt: Looking at level more than looking for rats. Hurt self with grenades too much, so went beheaded kamikaze at a rat. Second attempt: Got stuck on the forklift. Third attempt: Did quite well, but ended up killing self on the same rat I hurt myself so much on on the first attempt.
There's a couple of spots I could see the player getting stuck in (besides the forklift, which I think needs some clip-brush smoothing), such as behind the reactors (or whatever they are) and in the toilets (you can jump up the urinal).
Besides that, fun to play! Some of the rats are harder to kill than to spot, which is a good part of the play.
I personally would like some way of telling you how many rats you've gotten on death, or maybe just a vox every five or so. I don't know how many I've found =(
EDIT: Did a last attempt to collect my knowledge. Found a total of somewhere around 32-33 rats. I wouldn't venture a guess as to which ones I've missed, and I got some pretty damn hard to see ones. (Btw, don't know if it's intended, but loading (quickload and such) seems to empty the grenade stockpiles. Even removes grenades you are already carrying if you go up to one.)

You can find some in the hazard course, in the target range. Only place I'm aware of.
Just went there are had a stuff around with them. They seem to be able to take some kind of commands, as some are walking around when the map starts, then they reach a certain point and don't move again. Don't know whether that's coded or just entity work. When stationary, they seem to turn to look at you if you're nearby to some extent, like scientists. You can't hit them with bullets, the egon gun or the crowbar (or snarks, obviously), or so it would seem. The gauss gun I'm not sure about, I killed one with it (and gibbed it with it afterwards) but I couldn't do the same to another. Explosions kill and gib as per usual. Also worth noting is that the crossbow seems to have no trouble killing them. On the topic of killing them, their death animation loops about three times and then they freeze. Obviously wasn't coded too rigorously.

Basically a scavenger hunt w/ crabs?
Could be an interesting variation on Deathmatch, with the players being scored on how many 'crabs they get rather than kills. Might be difficult to rig that up though.

Watched it again. Couldn't get that imagery out of my head.
Though, right up until one of them gets out into the open, you could completely believe the two diggers under the right side are the front legs of a giant mecha-spider feeding asphalt into its mouth.

Two little words keep me far away from the realm of engineering: "fuck" and "up". As in, how little a fuck up could cost lives. Challenger was a little fuck up, wasn't it? Might be a little harder to make such a fuck up with the bridge, but you can imagine what might happen if one did.

I've been tinkering with it again. I haven't really got the time at the moment to make the movie I intend to make with these particular characters, but I made a picture because why not.
BOOM HIGHFIVE ME BROTATO

Do it quietly.
Almost make you wonder why I'm commenting.
EDIT: I'd shrink that image down so it's not eating your journal if I had any idea how.
