Thanks for the comments, The_(c)Striker. I am going to tweak the single author articles slightly so they're not quite as wide.

I do understand your thoughts for the most part. My design aesthetic is heavily skewed towards minimalism and clarity, because I think that makes a far bigger impact than the overuse of effects and components ever could. I'm a fan of it because it allows the content to really shine, and it's what you want your audience to concentrate on.

I think this kind of design came through as the audience grew. To people like us, a forum is a completely normal aspect of life on the internet, but to a layperson, it's an extra layer of abstraction that doesn't have a clear parallel in the real world. Skeuomorphism is a kind of design 'no-no' at the moment, but it's actually a very sound concept that successful designs tend to embrace: it's not about making a literal representation of a real-world object in a digital context, but instead about conveying a digital concept with a grounding in real-world concepts and conventions.

And yeah, everything Cameron has done since T2 has sucked. Well, that's a little harsh, but certainly nothing as perfect as T2.

The new site look is definitely best suited for the dual-article approach. I saw the last article about James Cameron's Terminator 2( which I totally agree was the best film he produced), and the text spanning the whole screen seems a bit tiresome.

There's this modern web style current I don't know to put in words, but your site totally adopts it. In some ways, it's clean and very nice. But for a guy like me that grew and learn about the internet in a time when forums where still heavily used(2007-2010 when the web 1.0 to 2.0 transition kinda was at its end), it seems overly simplified. Don't mean to be a hypocrite, I adopted this theme style on my blog too. Just my feeling that we're having too many websites that are too picturesque but lack that interactive feeling. They feel too...simple. Like having some limited information on the last page of a weekly magazine.
The accent put on the "now" is too damn high. In the past sites used to have more of an archival approach, now it's hard to go through older articles.

This is just some rambling that got out of control and might not be related to your site :)).

A very beautiful map, although I never played RP in Garry's Mod. I really like the balanced spaceship atmosphere, but it lacks sound. It's kind of bland without it.

You have a bunch of missing textures, and I have installed ep1 and ep2. Even the planet that can be seen through the windows has a missing texture.

The architecture and overall texturing is outstanding though.

Duelling articles is definitely staying, we're just doing more on top of those. Pebs and I don't always see eye-to-eye on topic choices, so having different article types means we can easily branch out.
Commented 9 years ago2014-12-18 03:41:03 UTC in journal: #8485 Comment #36111
You could have posted the modding article one at least =P

I like the dueling article structure too, jessie :)

Nah, the double articles will still be featured pretty often.

@CapT: The site is unrelated to TWHL, so we're not going to post i-x news/journals/forums/whatever spam here. Go to the site if you want to read it, there's even a little button for it underneath the onliners box :)

You're not abandoning the dueling articles format completely, are you? I liked that, me. Having the parallel perspectives nicely accentuated the key points of each side.

Otherwise, lookin' good!

I still vote invert-x articles could be reposted in the news, or at the very least you could advertise them in der?
It would be better than what we have in the news now, which is notihing since 2013 ;)

Screw you, Archie.

Well, my current desktop is a single-core (obviously) P4@2.4GHz / 2GB RAM I bought in 2004 that doesn't even support SATA2. So I wouldn't refuse to win it at some compo but really, shipping it would cost quite a bit so I'll have to pass.

AJ: From what I heard, they don't call you 'Ant' for no reason! Giggidy!

Bruce: Megadrive*

TJB: Know them feels. Earning enough to spend money on PC components is something new to me this year.

Pebs: I agree!

Rufee: I thought that initially, but the fact that it's a full metal design and actually helps with cooling & signal shielding - not to mention it looking like a goddamn fighter jet - has won me over.

Stu: It's a very good question. I now have an (okay) i7, a great (albeit outdated) mobo and a very expensive water cooling unit that won't fit the new CPU. That's actually not a bad bundle of kit. A prize for a mapping compo maybe? Would anyone be interested in still perfectly-working kit, despite it being a few years old?

Stojke: Spot on, sir!

Muzzeh: I just about meet the minimum requirements for The Core now.
