URB'S MULTIPLE CHOICE FICTION.
Chapter 1
Continues...
Joe crept up to the kitchen door and looked out into the hallway. All the other apartments had also been raided. He stepped out and turned towards Barry and Jenny's apartment which was next door. He slowly crept along the corridor, passing another blood stain on the wooden floor. He peered round the door to the apartment. Barry was sat against the far wall. Blood was pouring from his nose and mouth and he was struggling to plug a wound in his side. He looked up and stared Joe in the face.

?They've taken her.? he spluttered. ?They've taken her to Nova Prospekt.?

Barry coughed and as he did he sprayed blood across his legs. He twitched wildly for a second and then slumped into a gore soaked heap against a dresser. Joe clenched his fist as another session of gunfire started up on the lower levels of the building. He ran to the stairwell and looked town towards the lobby. Two of the cops were chattering over their radios.

?Killed 3 on the upper level.? One said

?Any for NP?? Replied his partner.

?Yeah,? the first one laughed. ?There was a whole flock of stalker material in the apartment leading to the roof. There was another blocking the door, strong as an ox. We needed 4 officers to bust him. He's got definite elite qualities. They're being loaded into the APC now.?

Joe had heard enough. He carried on up the stairs. He froze as a series of frantic footsteps began bombing down the stairwell above him. He ducked into an old storage closet as the cops ran by, their stun batons still sparking.

?Go go go! Back to the APC!?

?He went through a window on the end of the street!?

?Get in touch with the citadel elite and get them to sound that fucking alarm!?

Joe stepped out of the cupboard, his eyes watering from the dust. The building was silent except for the sound of the Combine APC units speeding around outside. He carried on up the stairs until he came to a barricade made up of chairs and old girders. He turned to the hallway behind him and noticed that the only accessible apartment was on the right hand side. He went inside to find more blood and a few dead bodies. By the looks of it a few people had been dragged out of the room to the stairs. A man was still laying on the sofa with 3 shots in his back. He sighed and approached the body. It jerked as a man jumped out from behind it waving a pistol madly at Joe.

?Don't move.? He yelled ?I'll fucking kill you!?

?Woah.? Joe jumped back, shielding himself with his hands. ?Wait.?

?Oh thank God.? The man clambered around the chair. ?Thank God.?

?What is going on??
?What?? the man was in a world of his own, wandering around the room looking at the walls. ?Oh, its the Freeman guy.?

?Who??

?Who!?? The man looked astonished ?Gordon Freeman? Hero of Black Mesa? Have you been keeping track of the resistance plot at all these past three years??

Joe looked away. The only thing he had been keeping track of recently was where the next round of beer was coming from. He shook his head.

?What!? Oh my God!? the man was furious. ?Well it seems the human race doesn't like being oppressed in the way that it has been for a century now and it seems a revolution is expected to break out in the not too distant future. We've got several key agents already. Barney Calhoun is working inside Civil Protection and relays information to Isaac Kleiner. Kleiner is working on a device in order to transport people covertly to a resistance base which is operated in part by Eli and Alyx Vance.?

?Where do I stand in all this?? Joe was yet to be impressed.

?You? Well you don't have to stand anywhere. Your either with us or with them.? He pointed out of the window toward the Citadel. ?I'm betting your better of with us. I know where the nearest safe house is. You can stay here or you can come with me and get supplied.?

?Supplied??

?Oh yeah,? The man laughed. ?If your with us, you're going to fight!?

A) Follow the man to the safe house

B) Keep on up to the roof.

C) I'll come as far as the street. I ain't going to no safe house!

Ok, the other one died due to lack of interest. You know the rules and this one follows the story of an actual HL2 character you meet in the game. :)

Here goes.

URB'S MULTIPLE CHOICE FICTION.
Chapter 1
Miscount
?Attention please. Unidentified person of interest.?

That was the first time in the years of the combine over watch being in power that somebody had slipped by the immense security measures of the City 17 train stations. It was the first sign of hope.

Joe sat in his chair in the dank and dirty kitchen of his apartment. There were three strong knocks coming from the corridor outside the front doorway. Joe kept his vacant stare focused on the window in front of him. There was a crash and a series of noises that could best be described as unpleasant and violent. There was another series of footsteps behind him. He waited for the buzz of a metro cop's stun stick but nothing happened. Instead the figure swung round so that it stood before the window. Joe was drunk on the ten or more bottles of beer he had found in the park this morning. He looked through the blur in an attempt to make out any distinguishing features. He attempted to greet the figure.

?Was that you knocking?? he asked. ?I didn't know we still had a door.?

The figure slid away into the next room where Troy and Michelle were looking out of the window. They both said something to the man, nondescript to Joe, before the blurry figure slipped away again.

?Attention residents.? The over watch radio boomed into life again. ?Miscount detected in your block. Cooperation with your civil protection team guarantees full ration reward.?

Joe attempted to stand up but slumped back into his chair just as two sets of footsteps ran into the apartment. He turned his head just in time to receive a stun stick to the face. He flew of his chair and into the wall. He slumped down and his eyes focused on the living room. Troy was on the floor being severely beaten by the cops. Michelle ran towards the kitchen as one officer drew his pistol. He fired one shot and Michelle dropped to the floor like a rag doll, her face a few inches from Joe's. She murmured something to him as the cop followed into the kitchen. The officer stood over the two bodies. He fired two shots, both into Michelle. Joe blacked out.

In the darkness he could here alien voices, murmuring to themselves in an tongue unknown to him. Suddenly a shaft of light appeared and a gaunt man in a suit stepped through. The man studied Jou up and down before looking straight into his eyes, looking almost puzzled.

?Not...yet. Soon.? his speech was impaired somewhat, like he was out of breath. He nodded to himself and disappeared into the shadows.

Joe opened his eyes with a sharp jolt of his limbs. The apartment had long since been abandoned. Nothing but blood stains remained. He sat up on the floor and a sharp pain seared through his head and neck. He was bleeding a little, the warm trickle darted from his hairline into his left eye. He jerked, rubbing his eyes wildly to clear his vision. There was gunfire in the street below and a metro cops radio crackled into life not far from the apartment window.

?Up there! On the roof! TAKE HIM DOWN!?

Joe scrambled to his feet as a gunship rumbled the building as it rushed past the building.

?What the hell is going on?? he thought to himself.

A) Head left out of the door and go down to the rear courtyard.

B) Head right out of the door and go upstairs.

C) Stay put and wait until the gunfire dies down.

Hey guys,

Just thought I'd drop in and let you all know I'm still floating about. Also I'm still working on Kinetix and will hopefully have some presentable material the next time I drop in.

In the meantime here is a lovely brief journey into the mind of one of Neonite City's most treasured and discreet specimen. What follows is simply a journey into the mind of a psychic, alien, political guru. This will give you an insight of the attitude your potential spirit guide will convey.
So long as your just sitting there pay attention. I do not care for your puny race. I do not care for your miserable planet. I only care for the safety and well-being of my own kind. Unfortunatly my own survival is key to this one responsibility and since my mortal frame is trapped on this disgusting rock I am willing to accept what little assisstance one of your kind can offer.

When I crashed here four years ago I had hope. I could feel the active, apparently intelligent minds which were dancing around my craft as the crowds gathered. I remember the disappointment when I awoke in that primative laboratory that was constructed by your most powerful research and development company. I thought for a second that I may have travelled backwards in time. However this is the grim reality and now I come to you.

You are the best this planet has to offer me. Please do not let this go to your head. It is not a compliment on any level. You are not the world's strongest super man and you do not have an overly high IQ. You are eqaully matched in both areas. You are emotionally laid back and fairly stable. You are not the perfect hero but you are the perfect puppet. You have what it takes to jump-start my little operation.

What lies before you is a path of destruction and choas. My enemies are closing in at a rapid pace and they will destroy everything in their path. The fact that I have chosen you indeed makes you the luckiest human being there is. You alone can survive the oncoming slaughter and you may help whoever you please along the way. I cannot promise they will be able to come with you when the time comes to...well...if I told you that now then I may erase what little bit on enthusiasm you are currently showing.

Just know this...your journey will be...out of this world...

Just tell me what you guys think. I'm trying to get it so that you can imagine the emotion of the situation.

?We are the last hope.?

I remember those words well. They were the last words that Sergeant O?Brien said to us as we piled out of the door of the immobilized APC. As we stepped into the torrential downpour of rain I remember hearing the scream of the guy standing beside me as he was cut down by enemy fire. I can still feel the warm blood spattering across my face as a rifle shot ripped through his neck. Guns were being fired from the front of the group in a desperate attempt to suppress the entrenched soldiers raining hell down from the gun towers. A mortar shell struck the APC behind me and the whole thing went up in a fireball, which had certainly come up from Hell itself. Metal fragments ripped through the crowd. One was so close to my head I heard it flying past my ear before it embedded itself in the back of a young infantryman in front of me. I lost my balance and fell forward onto the group. My face and hands sunk into a disgusting layer of mud, red with the blood of those who had fallen. The crowd kept moving forward as more men piled up on the ground. My rifle was trapped under something and I couldn?t shift it. I turned to see my best friends lifeless eyes staring back into mine. He had been hit in the forehead by an anti-armour round and was bleeding out of his eyes and nose. I grabbed his arm and rolled his body over towards me. His sniper rifle slid from his hand and was buried into the thick sludge as more soldiers trampled over it. I snatched it from underneath a soldier?s foot and he fell sideways. He got onto his hands and knees, his eyes wide with fear and his face covered in mud and camouflage-paint.

?Hey!? he yelled above the screaming and gunfire. ?You?ve got a sniper rifle!?

?Yeah??

?Use it.? He gestured towards the central gun tower. As he did three shots shredded his chest and he collapsed, vanishing under more bodies as they fell.

I turned back to the rifle lying in front of me. I took hold of it and examined the scope. It was impossible to see through due to the thick coat of grime, which had covered it. I turned to my right. There was a deep puddle a few feet away. The dark brown water was the best thing this harsh battlefield had to offer. Another APC was hit by a mortar shell and its occupants where hurled into the air. They came down with a mighty impact, some breaking bones and others being shot before they even hit the ground. A body landed in the pool, turning the water red as blood flowed from a gaping wound I his back.

?This is fucking hopeless.? I heard one soldier cry.

?Come on? yelled his CO ?We?ve got to get out of their firing line. Get to the base of the towers.?

They disappeared through the mist and gun smoke. I thrust the scope into the red water hoping it would be enough. I took it out and looked through it, the crosshair barely visible in the dense rain. I looked to one of the towers and noticed that its occupants were now clearly visible. I clicked the scope back into position on the rifle and braced it on top of a corpse. I took aim, right between the eyes of the gunner, took a deep breath and set my finger on the trigger.

(Not aimed at anyone here) It really annoys me when people say physics and destructable scenery don't effect gameplay. Uhm, yeah they do. Especially multi-player.

MP Scenario: The last surviving player on team A is sniping from a steel girder tower and is racking up some major points. The other team (B) is down to its last 2 men. Neither of them have any ammo left eccept for remote charges. Now:

Game without physics. Team B attempt to throw a charge into the tower but can't throw them far enough, loose their last charges and get sniped in the face to death falling in pre-set animations.

Game with physics. Both players rush the tower giving the sniper time to get one. He strikes him in the head and he collapses, limbs flailing in a great display of physics powered ragdoll crumplage. The other grabs his charge in mid flight and gets below the tower planting the 2 charges on each girder on one side of the tower. He runs for cover and detonates them, sending the tower and its occupant into the floor with dusty crushing smashyness. Effective and bloody cool to watch.

I rest my case

What are you implying 7th?

I said i'd drop in every now and again. I'm having a spot of bad luck with my PC at home at the minute. I've blown the power supply although thats been fixed and now I find out that I've burned out my CPU too. Saying that it was a 2.2 Ghz in desperate need of an upgrade.

Looking at this whole physics thing has made me think deep deep thoughts and now I'm worried. Looking at games like Crysis and UT2007 the graphics are damn near perfection right? So now we move on to physics and when we've perfected that whats next? Surely we are on the brink of gamings demise. What happens when 'The Perfect Game' is released. Where can we go from there?

The next generation of gaming is almost upon us the the key word is PPU's. Physics processing units for your PC. They take the strain of Physics off the CPU for more fluid (Quite literally) physical gamplay.

As the author of the 'Concerned' comic once delicatley said.

"Don't worry, that sound of a boner ripping through my pants was just my boner ripping through my pants"

Check out these movies.
