I've got the cracked version of HL2 (Warez.. It doesnt use steam..)
So I can't help :E
In this case, I hope the Steam Police hunt you down and smash up your computer. Don't speak of piracy on a Half Life related website, its bad karma. ;)

Luckily my mediocre 56k connection keeps me from the temptation of big warez.

To be honest mate, I dont have it, and I doubt that anyone else here has had it any longer than you, and I mean admin. Since its only out, I'm pretty sure if you emailed amckern@yahoo.com or the other one, they could tell you straight away. Damn....the world needs another Tommy14 again. :)

I don't go on IRC, thats virus central.
Just to pick up on this (and im not derailing this thread), but a lot of people seem 'afraid' of going on IRC lest a virus get them. This makes absolutely no sense to anyone who can actually use a computer.

Dont download something you're not sure of, or not sure of the person.
Dont do what someone tells you to do to your computer, unless its admin.

IRC isn't one place, there are lots and lots of different IRC networks, quakenet, dalnet, efnet being the most popular, and I can assure you that the one that this site (irc.chatbear.com) uses is quite safe and well moderated, as opposed to the geeky mad max 2 kind of world you seem to portray. If you think IRC is full of viruses which will kill you and zap you when you login, you know little about IRC or viruses or computers. If you DO know all this, and yet you cannot trust your own common sense to decide not to download "not-teh-viruz.bmp.exe" from "A0LH4X0R" then please switch off your computer and cover it in cellophane. Both you, and your computer will feel much better for it.

The chatroom is as important as the forums for this community, and I'd really like you to think before you scare people away with your misguided, off-the-cuff remarks riley.

The brilliant thing about numerology is that you can make anything have a super symbolic number, by adding and subtracting it untill it does. Its the occult version of Countdown. Liber 777 by Crowley is a good list of numbers of Qabalistic significance etc. too.

The whole thing is rather pointless since you can 'prove' everything has significance. So I'm not worried about the dates, times, number of times someone does something etc. Numerology in this scraping the barrel sense simply annoys me.

Anyone with a big list and a calculator can predict patterns and prophesise things it would seem. Not so.

The whole idea of 'choice' makes no sense. You don't really make choices which are truly free, unless its something basic like when to eat and sleep. Everything else relates to what other people want or what they may expect, you do things to impress people, to rebel, to fit in etc. And in these cases you are being manipulated, whether the other people know it or not.

As I said, man, define this 'mind control' as opposed to subtle manipulation (which we all do or have done). Its MORE than the $64,000 dollar question, Scien-NEH-tolo-NEH-gists would die. (NEHs added by my lawyer, he reckons a lot of cultists surf for people to sue). :)

Seriously, I know full well that people mean 'idiots who dont really care, or listen' when they say 'noob'. Point is, people who dont know rather than dont listen are the bread and butter of this site.

We're all noobs....except trapt....trapt is making a mod for half life 2 right now SOLEY with glass. Its going to be shipped with the hl2 disks to those of you buying actual hard copies.

(If you know much about what I know this isn't so far-fetched at all)
know = read evidence and weighed it up in your own mind, but completely lacking any first hand experience of the matter.

Subliminal advertising DOES definately work, thats why the companies get payed big bucks (and a lot of money). But it can always be argued that while all successful advertisments have subtle innuendo, the question in my opinion has always been, "what is mind control ('first degree' cooercion, if you will :P ) and what is very clever manipulation?"

Babies use 'mind control' by emitting a really annoying sound which taps into the humans innate sense of caring to get a response from adults. Eg goes "waaaah!" when it craps. Women wear red lipstick because it looks reminds men of swollen 'lady bits'. Pester power, guilt trips, reverse psychology, lying etc. are all forms of manipulation, and all far more effective at getting results. It can't be simply 'mind control' if you are trying to get someone to do something they probably wouldn't. We all do this, ever day. It seems 'mind control' is a term used for 'bad' manipulation, eg getting people to buy things or kill people 'against their will' (against their will, btw is bull, since the manipulation changes the persons will)

The whole thing is such a grey issue, the law doesn't really have a place to start. Thats why advertisers can do it (unless it blatently flashes KILL ALL HIPPIES during an advert) and why brainwashing cults (as opposed to normal, harmless idiot 'space man' cults) can get away with indoctrination of followers using the most powerful techniques. www.rickross.com has a very good selection of texts on cults and the techniques they use, btw.

Unless you're mapping professionally, its pretty pretentious for anyone here to consider themselves elite. Its a word and form of stigmatisation that's crept in from AOL's '31337 h4x0rs'.

I think we should all learn from this, no more flaming, no more mod hating, no more shit and nastiness, if someone has such a problem with someoen else, go to IRC and debate it in front of live witnesses and then everyone decides what happens.
Exactly, what the hell is the point in arguing over a series of hours and days, when you could duke it out properly. Arguements will always happen, and generally its fun to have a pet-hate. But by posting crap instead of saying it directly to someone, all that you succeed in doing is cluttering up the site, and overshadowing the actual forum threads and posts, like mapping or intelligent debate. None of the arguments I have read here in recent times have been helpful to anyone (i.e. they are not debate, and there is no outcome). If you want have a problem with someone, you don't post an angry letter in a newspaper, you talk/shout/bite them.

All this talk of how to behave in the forums is very good, and well, but the ammount of people both talking the talk and walking the walk is miniscule, to the point where I would deem threads like this as spam (no offence). While its nice to list off the shalts and shalt nots, the fact is that everyone knows how to behave, so its pretty pointless. Sorry. :|
