Well, I tried hard to think of something sarcastic that'd fit here, without success. I think this guy is just fanatically trying to do pulicity for this ozone thingy. When I hear ozone it reminds me of that strange song running all day on empty-V.
See, that's what newbies do. They often spend hours for quite simple stuff. They try getting help in forums, try to fix it themselves etc. When they finished their map after lots of pain in the arse and weeks spent on browsing different forums, they are proud of what the've done, no matter how it looks. Of course they want to show their first success to others, and then they come here.
What I don't like about milkshape is the interface. It tries to be like 3Dsmax, but it fails. You cannot do anything with the keyboard. You have click around 10 times before you can do some simple extrusion. I prefer blender, it's very easy to control once you learned it and it's for free and has a very good renderer.
You use milkshape for modelling? I've tried it once and it sux like hell. This is probably the most uncomfortable modelling program you can buy for money. If it hadn't all those file convertion features I would have deleted it long ago.
D'you know that MX510 from logitech? I've got one and I can just recommend. It can handle movement up to a speed of 1m/s. And it has 8 usefull buttons. I still use the mousebuttons to navigate through 3d. It's the fastest and most accurate way.
Run wally, start the open file dialogue and choose *.pak from the filetype list. Now go to your Half-Life/valve folder in the browser and open the pak0.pak. Now you can extract the entire sound folder by right clicking and choosing 'extract'.
How many microsoft people do you need to change a light bulb? Five. One takes out the light bulb and sends an error report to the company. Next one exchanges the socket so that only microsoft lightbulbs will fit. Third one makes an '8' out of the '5' on the light bulb. The fourth one gives it back to you and tells you that it's been completely redesigned. The fifths ignores your further attempts in getting help because it still doesn't work properly.
I usually use the two mousebuttons to navigate through 3d. It is the most intuitive and the fastest way to do that. You don't have to touch the keyborad at any time.
The xen part was fun, too. Try to play without quicksaving, improves your feeling for the HL physics, or makes you throw your PC out the next window. I liked the gman outros a lot, though many people complained because there was no real solution in the end. It's cool to have an open end.
Hey, don't do publicity for another community here! @7th: Wouldn't it be possible to write a little program that unzips the files, looks for a mod specific entity in the bsp and then puts into the right cathegory automatically?
I do. My problem is that I usually get very lazy when I have to do things that are not in my interrest at all. I'm afraid I've led this thread offtopic again. Oh, I am so useless.
I'm not sooo pessimist. I'm just like a 'I'll die anyway and no one will remember me, so why should I bring efforts' - pessimist. Btw, I believe that pessimists live longer than optimists. 'Lalala, life is fun, I will walk over that street now without getting over-' CRASH!
Hm? Maybe that's because I'm a pessimist. But I allways try to explain my negative replies. So you can understand why I think so. Mostly it because I've seen all this before and it never went good. So I try to think of another solution for the problem. /me hopes that this wayn't too negative
It's not a bad idea, but it wouldn't work. Most people here are too lazy to look at every new map and give a rating. Second thing is that you would have to ensure that only people who are able to judge on things in a quite objective way. What if someonw who really hates the creator of that certain map comes up and drops a zero points rating. It'd be quite hard for an average map to get back into the tolerance range again.
We already have a rating system. Though it seems to be quite messy. I have two questions about it. 1st: can not-members of TWHL rate maps? I think this should be a priviledge for members. 2nd: can one person vote more than once? If so, it should be changed, too. That way you ensure a quite objective result. Also the author of the map should not be allowed to rate it.
I think if we could change the current reating system that way, it'd become a very reliable quality ensurance.
Hey blue, at the moment you're whining most here. The spirit discussion has ended 2 days ago already. So please stop spamming and do whatever you think it takes to win this compo. =FIN= hopefully!
Go to the folder of this mod. Look for the 'liblist.gam' file. Open it and search the point 'multiplayerentity' (something like that). There you'll see which entity must be in the map to make it appear in the MP map list. You still can play the map single player with the console commands.
So you're making a CS map? CS maps require an info_player_deathmatch to appear in the map list, add one. You can play the map singleplayer by typing 'map mapname' into the console.
It'd discriminate people with less skill. The noob vault would be ignored because nobody will expect good maps there. So, after a while everybody would put his stuf into the advanced vault, because they want comments on their maps. Then we'd be back at the beginning again.
Use real images if you want to visualize your problem. As for the problem, CP said it already. I don't know whether it's for MP or SP, on multiplayer the whole thing takes some more trigger areas.
How do you want to call it? 'Noobs who have just registered-mapvault'? Hey no one even sticks to the map type, there are awfully many counterstrike maps that are marked to be HL. This would not work either. I think you'll have to tollerate it. Still not all the maps are total crap, every once in a while someone uploads something good.
First thing: remove the space from the name of the map. It'll spare you a lot of trouble. Second: If all the progs are setup correctly, you should now be able to compile the map by pressing F9. That's written in the tutorial, too.
I think you're talking about the USB port. I've never heard of a 'bsp'-port either, but your description fits the USB-port. USB is 'universal serial bus'. If this 'bsp'-port does exist, what do the letters stand for? When I hear 'bsp', I allways thinkof HL, quake and so on. Anyway it seems to be working now, doesn't it?
It seems as if the biggest problem of all the advanced mappers here is lazyness. It's one of my problems, too. But holidays've just begun, so I have time, time and time again. Mapping, compiling and eating will be everything I'll do the next six weeks. "f* yeah"
If it's a .bsp file, copy it into your 'Half-Life/valve/maps'-directory, run HL with '-console' and type 'map mapname' into the console to play it. If it's a .map or .rmf file, copy it somewhere into your worldcraft directory, run worldcraft and open it as every other one. Btw, wrong forum I think.
