Okay :P (blows raspberry)

1. Minimicus - I simply love mini-maps and the effects were cool
#CUT# Uplink Extended (HL1 MOD) - This was a true HL mod, I haven't seen any mod that resembles HL so well.
#CUT# Timefall - I didn't play Life's End but I really like Timefall, good storyline-map mesh even if I had to restart the mod a few times.
2 .Orb (HL1 SP) - Simply impressive
3. Dm_poisongarden - Ingenious map, really breaks from the HL theme entirely.
4. Carbaseus (HLDM) - Still play this map regularly
#CUT# Sydney Harbour Bridge (HL1 SP) - Even if it wasn't playable I still liked it.
#CUT# Sunden (HLDM) - I liked this map but the weapon layout really ruined it for me.

Those poor mappers who got cut...

in Half Life 3 might exist afterall Post #241980
After a total of 4 games based on the Combine I think they've worn it out thoroughly. They will probably have Gman catch up with you and whisk you away on another adventure which barley relates to the previous HL altogether. And what I meant before was, mapping got 5x more compilcated and while we had a good workbench of effects and all, we were always limited to combine and/or antlions. There wasn't really much more. In HL1 we had grunts and aliens. Sound familiar??

in Half Life 3 might exist afterall Post #241838
I have played Halo 1 and 2 (don't have an XBox anymore to play 3), yes i enjoyed the game and multiplayer was OK but once is enough. It had great SP elements and I was happy with the the two weapon limit, especially when in Halo 2 you could hold two at a time, but really, halo lacks Long-Term playability. Once you've finished it the story is boring to play again and all you have is un-inspiring multiplayer, the only fun thing about multiplayer was the vehicles (used to blow my brother up with the scorpion when he was in a banshee. Ahh, good times :^_^: ). Half-Life really does conquer both Halo1 and 2 mainly because of the custom mapping ability and large fan base. Honestly, if Half-Life 3 could provide an array of good vehicles, a wide range of effects, tools, good storyline and monsters, and all easy for mappers to use or modify then Half-Life would reign supreme over all other games. That is what I think anyway.

Okay, based on what the current scores are then I will award the following:

1. Minimicus - I simply love mini-maps and the effects were cool
2. Uplink Extended (HL1 MOD) - This was a true HL mod, I haven't seen any mod that resembles HL so well.
3. Timefall - I didn't play Life's End but I really like Timefall, good storyline-map mesh even if I had to restart the mod a few times.

For maps:

1 .Orb (HL1 SP) - Simply impressive
2. Dm_poisongarden - Ingenious map, really breaks from the HL theme entirely.
3. Carbaseus (HLDM) - Still play this map regularly
4. Sydney Harbour Bridge (HL1 SP) - Even if it wasn't playable I still liked it.
5. Sunden (HLDM) - I liked this map but the weapon layout really ruined it for me.

Okay, Santa's Revenge 2 is all wrapped up and ready for posting. Which I will do on Christmas Eve, sometime in the afternoon (note i am in Australia so there is time difference and crap). After previous advice, I am making a forum thread so everyone knows about it and also could you leave comments here instead of on the map profile please. If you want to rate then just select a rating and post. Better this way because then I get a wider range of comments because some people don't leave very helpful map comments and the map profile isn't really for discussion. Thanks. Will post again when I release. :ciggie:

But will they continue to drag out the same thing only looking better like all the other titles such as Need For Speed and Medal of Honour. I think they should make a Half-Life 3 but they could do what other game developers have done and just gone for a trilogy (think I spelled it right). For some reason, doing that makes the game almost famous, I mean look at Halo, third game sold over a million copies in the first few hours.

Good ideas. After the suggestion to dump licensed characters (eg, Hulk) I have gone towards mutant and out-of-the-ordinary characters including mutant humans, ancient-old creatures and other extraterrestrial beings. My concept is there are five damage factors. Heat, cold, physics (ie, bullets, thrown objects), energy and radiation. Each character has powers that relate to the five different factors and each has a higher defense valve to each factor. Eg, an ancient rock monster is 25% immune to heat, 60% immune to cold, 90% immune to phyiscs, 40% immune to energy and 100% immune to radiation. But... This character, to balance his defense abilities, has slow speed, but high damage rating

I suppose this isn't really a bug, but when you want to change the physics at the start of the game, you have to use a trigger_once because it uses the locus system to affect the player. So on Tetrisitis, I couldn't use a trigger_auto. Is there any way to fix this? And how can I get it to play mp3 files?

It would probably be GldSrc as I haven't got my head around the source code yet of Source. By the way, I Googled it and there is a superhero mod around but not released and the home page hasn't had a news post since 2003 so I figured it be pretty dead by now. i would like to do it in source because then I can use the physics system for really cool effects like mentioned above.

I had a good idea for what I would think would be a fun new mod. If there is enough interest in it then maybe later I'll make it. The idea:

A multiplayer mod where you can choose to be one of dozens of different superheroes (and villains!!) and fight other superhero players. But, with each character, you also have the ability to use all their powers! Each character would have X number of powers, some more than others, others can use the same power different ways. The stronger the attack, the more "Power Points" you use up. Obviously, you would recharge your powers over time and pick up bonuses that give you a quick recharge. But think of the possibilities! Imagine The Hulk and Wolverine doing battle in a destructible arena-like level! Anyway, I think it would be really cool, especially if It could be done in source, then The Hulk can pick up chunks of concrete on the ground left over from when he smashed wolverine into the wall and throw them at Wolverine! Left me know what you think!!

I reckon you should use hi-res textures. Do like HL2 did. Make huge textures 512x512 is compatible (i think) and scale down 25%. Zoners does hate any texture with dimensions greater than 256 but it will accept them. And I love the way this mod is going by the way. I haven't posted up till now but a mod like this is just so cool! And that Skybox is ultra cool! Looks like the kind of rendering in TMNT!

in Gate (func_door) issues Post #236973
Me thinks you have mis-read the properties of the different sound values. I was looking at them the other day. I can't see what you've done but I know there is a moving sound, a fully open sound and a fully closed sound, maybe you get them mixed up. The second question is just use the I/O system and toggle the door. Don't send the instruction open or close because otherwise if the door is open and you press the open button, nothing happens. The last two I can't help you with as I don't actually map for CS-S yet.

I loved this. Funny thing, I had just downloaded Codename Gordon and had this strange urge to make levels for an old 2d game. Then I checked back here and found this! It was perfect! I am already making a short series of maps called Gangsters. It pits Gordon against the alien invasion and military in a suburban setting, I suppose like Poke 646. Anyway, I'm glad you used the latest Spirit for this mod 'cause it gives me access to cool features for example. I have a section where you get in the back of a truck container. From outside, it is solid and you can't see inside but as soon as you hop in, the wall fades away to reveal inside! Looks so cool ingame! The only bug I found is that when you die (and didn't splat) the death view is still present. So if you move the mouse while dead, your body moves, looks like some "i'm hurt bad but can't get up so i'll roll around the floor till someone loads the game" :P And I changed to the a/d buttons too. Much easier that way.

in Your Gaming History? (Long Post) Post #235689
The first game I ever played was when I was 5. It was Donkey Kong on the old Nintendo 64. Later on we got street fighter and a couple of years later we got a computer. I didn't use it much then but I really enjoyed playing Unreal and Worms 2 with my dad and sister. Since then I have played the following games on PC (I still have most of these, whether they will ever work again I don't know):

Deus Ex
Hidden and Dangererous
Commandos 1 and 2
ZZT
Quake 1, 2, 3
Sonic
Decent
Hellbender
Half-Life 1, 2, OP4, BS, CS
Doom 1, 2 and 3
Civilistation 1
Need for speed all up to porche
Age of Empires
Sim City 2000
Monkey Island 1, 2, 3
Micro Machines V2
And many more (my memory is shot)

I also had a Game Boy Colour which I passed on to my little brother.
For that I had:
Donkey Kong 2
Mario
Mickey's Adventure
Thunderbirds
Donald Duck - Quack Attack
Asteroids
and some F1 racing game

We then had an XBox:
Halo 1 and 2
Midtown Madness 3
Flying Aces

But we love our PS2 (gonna upgrade soon)
Hitman 2
Micromachines v3
Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter
Splinter Cell and Double Agent
Zoo Puzzle
Medal of Honor (played the entire series)
Call of Duty 2
Worms 3 and 4
Killzone
Need for speed Most wanted black edition and Carbon
and I can't name the other 30 that we have (again, memory is shot)

As always, I'm going single player. Not that I don't like multiplayer but I play more SP. I took one look at the layout and quite an obvious structure lept out at me. I'm keeping mine under wraps. Nothing better than a little surprise! Also, may I say that (to clear the air) I chose not to decide the next comp because I couldn't think up any good ideas that could work in a compo so I just offered some ideas and left them to it. Frankly, I like a challenge and when you know what you want to do it's not a challenge at all. Unfortunately, I may be pushing Gold Source engine too far (again!!!) but I hope I have room to draw the outside areas. I've learnt some new hammer tricks and got some good tools to build great outdoor areas so you all have to wait and see!!!

Yes, but Zip is an international file system automatically supported by any Windows version above 98. What if a user (such as myself) doesn't have WINRar? No offence, it is a very good program but we need to consider all users before we make a decision like that. FPS Banana is a hard site for me to get downloads because most of the files are in RAR or T9(??) format.

Long ago I bought the HL Platinum edition and have had it ever since. I have some mods for HL1 that need steam installed. I want Steam to recognise that I have HL1 and want Steam to connect with it so I can play it though Steam. I don't want to add a shotcut to HL1 because I have done that already. These mods won't install unless Half-Life 1 is run through Steam. How do I get HL1 into Steam without paying for a new HL1 in the Steam Store?

in Advice on looking after your PC Post #234803
You may also want to get a copy of Norton Ghost. What this does is make a virtual copy of a hard drive and you can then save the new ghost file to an external hard-drive or to a dvd. For example. After installing HL2 and Steam I made a Ghost and saved it to my external harddrive and then burned it to 4 dvds (ghost files are large but they get split up for easier copying). If something ever happens to my C drive I reformat, reinstall XP and Ghost then get Ghost to restore my C drive to the way it was before. Also, CCleaner is quite good but you can get a smaller version called Eraser. This little program will erase all unused hard-drive space. What does that do you might ask? Well, you may know that when you delete a file, it is removed but there is always a trace left behind. Now hackers have access to new programs that can recover all data on a computer even deleted files can be restored and opened and view private information. So, run CCleaer or it's smaller counterpart Eraser and it will delete these traces. Performing a deletion up to seven times to ensure deletion. I did this on my computer and restored over 700mb of harddrive space! As for virus software, use AVG, don't bother much with high priced software like Norton that requires updates every week. Also, you can't beat simple processes like a defrag and scandisk. You should also do a scandisk after using CCleaner or Eraser because these do frag up your machine but only because they make extra space in beween frags that were full. Which is why there is a debate as to wether this is worth it but it is. As for general system maintanaince, get a program similar to Nuts and Bolts. I'm sure there are newer versions or similar programs but a program like that is useful.

You might if the player can't get out of the sub. As soon as that sub goes underwater, it will fill with water and you'd drown. But if you just make fake water that it might work.
