I'm still tired of arrogant high school graduates attending their first semester of art college who have done modeling before. Funny thing is that they blow off there classes and never get any better at it.

I learned everything the hard way and I still use almost ALL of my old "pre-plugin" era methods because the plugins can't do what I need, or do it as good.

I got a microphone and was seconds away from running some TBRO3D drills, but turns out my soundcard doesn't record shit. So I'm sad. Returned the mic.

hopefully one day.... ;_;

I was going to make some models using the provided textures, but it turned out I didn't have to. I think that would've been against the rules anyway, and I didn't bother asking.

I see that you are using the term "in-house" everywhere. Just to clarify, that term means that you are from valve and you are using their in-house talents and resources to make this, which I highly doubt.

From the trailer, it looks like a good variety of fun, though what's up with the giant orange rings the player has to fall through?

This screenshot was taken of my island just before I died... and no the fall from the pillar wasn't what killed me. It turned night and I was out at sea looking for sugar cane to make paper stuff. I found some but was ambushed by some skeletons. Ultimately I did not make it off of the island alive. I was playing on Hardcore and that was the end of that life. Maybe one day my ruins will be stumbled upon by some pirates, as I had collected 15 diamonds, 5 stacks of coal, 51 gold, and 7 stacks of iron. I had a very abundant farm and managed to obtain a fishing pole but not a bed. My score when I died read 385.

RIP best MC world ever.

Another great 1.8 island survival is the seed '10' where you start on a medium sized island with 2 trees, grass, and some sugar cane.

Use the seed 'Nightfall' and survive if you can! Its an island with a super nice cave system below it, and have lots of grass and one tree!

Won't be home until monday. I guess the seed changed with the latest version. Bummer.

I'm having a fun time on that island. I've leveled the land and used any dirt I could find to expand the island to cover the shallow areas. FINALLY got a fishing pole and I'm eating like a king! I also built a nice cobble machine that's fully auto and pushes the cobble to a single block. May post the design at some point to that. Built a house to shield from the lightning strikes.

My next goal is to get a bed so if I die, I won't respawn in the ocean. Need 12 strings from spiders to make the wool for it.

Found this out.

On the 1.9 Pre-Release 3 version, if you use the seed 1027748776332260843 it will place you on a small island with some grass and two trees. No animals.

Its a super challenge. Since there's no wool, you can't make a bed. Here's the kicker; if you die, the game will respawn you 3000 units away from spawn with no land in sight at all. It's like hardcore.

CHALLENGE:
Be well self sustained with a farm, a two story house, and several trees.
Play it on Normal, no switching difficulties, don't be a pussy with hacks, mods, or cheats. The starting island is the only island for many miles with trees. Building at spawn is best since time is also a factor with hunger and starving.

Unfortunately, this seed only works with 1.9 PR3.

On Daubster's Server, near spawn, hard to miss.
I built this out of achievement. The islands are hand crafted, and the island the house is on is hollowed out, leaving a medium-large work room and storage. The whole thing is for rent, as I have no use for it.

in moving tanks Post #299829
I thought of a gimmicky way of doing it. Pretty much the tank structure is a train that follows a path. When it passes a certain path point, it fires a quick activate-deactivate to an invisible tank entity that could shoot at the player. Now the problem is to get the barrel to move and face the player. I would use a model entity that's passive that would face the player. Similar to a monster with the 'prisoner' flag set.

Well that's the best I've got.

Oh, I've had that. The extra lines being drawn is just some confusion with the radeon card, though it is entirely harmless and just bad. I got accustomed to it eventually and built Beer fort with it like that. I have no idea how to actually fix it though. Try some driver updates, that'd be my best guess.

Pixologic recently adopted the brain child of hobbyist programmer Tomas Pettersson. He created a sculpting application like zbrush, mudbox, 3d coat, etc. There are so many.

However, this simple sculpting software uses dynamic tessellation. Its the first of its kind and has the smallest footprint on both your hard drive and ram. It is also FREE!

First impressions is the slick and easy to use and understand interface, ability to change the tessellation as needed in certain areas by painting them, or change the resolution gloabally, and is perfectly capable of performing all of its powerful sculpting features at low polygon counts and game resolution. It truly is a unique program and is a very worth trying out.

OWN IT FOR FREE NOW!

Also, if you make anything, post them here! Share creations, thoughts, and comments.

in Ways to fix map lag ? Post #299484
I usually scale up textures for background elements 2 to 4 times, I also use modified compile settings that keep the vis load super tight so it loads only what you see and not in unnecessary large chunks. Use a batch compiler and change the node size on the vis to 64 or 128 and compile on full vis settings. It takes a long time but the benefits are very worth it.

Tawnos, Notch would have to make a single block for all of the combinations, unless he made one dynamic block capable of having different textures and when broken, gives your stuff back. The implications would be good, but achieving it seems complicated. I know what you mean, things would look better.

Still, a good number of great things can be added to the game that aren't rediculous. Like airplanes. Though that's what mods are for.

we need the following:

Fans
Creates a stream of current that pushes things in all directions, even up.

Baskets
It collects and stores drops on its own.

Iron Pistons
Capable of crushing blocks and dropping their resource.

And the ability to place stairs and slabs upside down on ceilings for more aesthetic crafting.

Fried Eggs
Cooking an eggs makes it sunny side up. :3

Also, herding neutral mobs is impossible. Not even 3 people can move a cow 50 meters. We tried. Notch messed it up with that mob-spaz-on-damage thing. Possible fix is to make the fishing rod deal no impact so you can pull mobs, maybe even increase its pull power. Or add a rope leash or something.

But yes, I'm looking forward to the new compo. I don't really care who judges it, since the past judges have been very trustworthy, honest, and just overall swell gentlemen.

Though vote through community effort can be biased as a good screenshot can sell a map to be downloaded more than others. I vote for a screenshot-free map listing so people must try them all to really pick good ones, and keep the ratings and votes private so no one knows anything. That's all I can think of for an honest community voting system.
