how about you blow the 'restaurant' up for serving poor saps high fatty foods whilst attempting to actually maintain an image of healthyness with fake salads and atkins nonsense, then destroy their corporate logo at the headquarters unless they agree to demands to create genuinely healthy food and not offal burgers

I dont think you have any argument other than the fact it was designed for mapping, 3d studio max is a hell of a lot better and I think it would be a lot easier to learn it from scratch, rather than the limitations of the hl engine.

its very VERY limited in what you can do and pretty much limited to aesthetic modifications, despite whatever grandiose ideas you have of fixing the numerous bugs in the joke that is hammer 3.5.

Saying that, I do run a customised version myself, but the only change is to make it look better on a higher resolution, with a greatly expanded visgroup list etc (because of that damn bug where you cant join visgroups if they are a page or more apart)

I think companies actually put these 'fake' files on kazaa so people get a taste of the song then go buy it.

Or it could just be a big coincidence it happens for all the most popular songs out there.

I find it impressive how hypocritial some posters here are, try and read what youve typed before you click 'post' ffs.

You claim its rediculous comparing far cry with a game thats yet to be released, thats a fair point. Yet you go onto provide a negative response disagreeing with the review conclusion, rather than the review itself as was your original point. You cannot simply state 'this review is false as you cannot compare an unreleased game with one that is commerically successful today', and further that with 'plus halflife2 is better'.

I for one will be seeking advice from my lawyers on this matter.

Unless you want your bsp to be 40 meg in size. However, given the number of people who stick full size uncompressed waves in their maps, I dont see why they wouldnt do this too..

in Models In Your Maps Post #28390
you can do quite a lot with models in halflife, in essence models in halflife can provide the detail in much the same way as is performed in halflife 2 (albeit with the many limitations that come with a 5 year old engine!)

If you were skilled enough you could indeed create a new model for mr freeman, though you would only be able to view it in multiplayer/on a camera. You could even change the animations if you wanted (thus the model would cease to be just a 'skin' of the existing gordon model).

I tend to use models where a high number of polies are needed and the use of world brushes (something created in hammer) is out of the question. In my last few maps I created wooden bridges, telephone poles (so many could be repeated with good detail), AA guns, backpacks. Anything that I needed really, its a fun addition to the engine and can really bring out a map if you use them well.

Error: Entity 0, Brush 204: outside world(+/-4096): (1186,1644,3964)-(3584,3794,4100)
Fix - dont create brushes outside of the grid!!

Error: Entity 19, Brush 1, Side 1: plane with no normal
Fix - you've probably vertex edited the brush and its gone a bit wonky, delete and remake it

Error: Entity 19, Brush 1, Side 1: has a coplanar plane at (3165, 3310, 3664), texture {GELAENDER
Fix - invalid brush from vertex manipulation again. Look for any sides of the brush that have a vertex splitting them (e.g. a cube with one of the sides having a vertex in the middle of it, take a house shape and move the 'roof' vertex down till it forms a flat face and you'll get this error)

Error: Entity 28, Brush 4: outside world(+/-4096): (10000,-10000,3664)(10000,10000,3712)
(1.42 seconds)
Fix - Brush is invalid, which is why values are insanely high. Delete and remake.

in Entity Setup for this? Post #27761
just a quick FYI, just because an entity isnt in the FGD doesnt mean it wont work in the engine. TFC excels at this, which is why I just use both the HL and TFC FGDs at the same time.

in null max patches? Post #27759
you can use null wherever you want, it just means the engine wont ever render that surface (thus lower r_speeds). Just run zoners HLRAD with -sparse or scale up the dirt, ideally both or itll look shite if its endlessly repeating.

Why learn danish? The one western country that seems to enjoy isolationism. I find the country more racist than the most backwards council estate here and my danish friends (who came here BECAUSE of that fact) vouch for this.

All the swedes can bloody speak english better than us, I think all foreigners who can just like that noone outside of their country can speak their language.

Im not racist, unless you arent british.
Posted 20 years ago2004-05-20 03:36:01 UTC
in what is r_speeds? Post #27757
Id just say-

r_speeds: number of polygons visible to the engine (not just to yourself, it can 'see' beyond some walls) in the direction you are looking in. Type 'gl_wireframe 2' in the console to see what the engine is currently rendering.
The general rule of thumb is that higher r_speeds = lower performance, where its best to aim for a high of around 800 wpolies (world polygons, everything you created in hammer), which almost any machine these days can handle without performance drop. Epolies you can usually ignore as they dont lag the engine as much (they refer to the models the engine is rendering)

Try transposing my 'unique' style of humour (which should probably also be in inverted commas) seen on these forums, onto a fiercly over modererated forum with thousands upon thousand of users - where one can frequently find the off-topic forum actually has limits.

Me + Americans never works out well anyway, although Im perhaps slightly hypocritical in this statement, dry humour and sarcasm are never fully understood by our friends across the pond.

Bit sad given how much time I had invested in the mod, was looking to become a team member until I realised just how unwelcome I was. I dont know if the topic is still there (nor do I care really), but way back when NS was only just released (had been a member since it was envisioned ffs!) there was a thread about a custom map for it that I quite rightly slated for being dull, lifeless and nowhere near even remotely finished. However, not knowing how well respected this bloke was in the community, the backlash I recieved was more than unfair, thus began the downward spiral till I didn't really care anymore, NS2.0 was released, and I stopped playing entirely.

Shame really, such promise, but all mods eventually go the way of simplification to gain a greater community - counterstike players (ffs).
