Children do tend to hate things that they were made to do in school. In my first school, they tried to hammer religeon into us, causing everyone of my friends to revert to atheism. I learned to read before I went into school, and as a result, one of my favourite activities is reading. I tend to read several books over the same period, such as reading one at home, one when I'm at the library, one at school, etc.
On the other hand, I know a guy that was forced to read when he was in school, because his parents never attempted to teach him. He's almost illitirate and would probably take half an hour to read this post.

My brother's like that - He learned pi up to a hundred digits and learned the order of all the keys on a keyboard backwards.

I tend to focus more on having a crapload of useless knowledge. :D

I definitely think that my younger brother would be interested in that, but his attention span is too short to allow for the download speed.
I'd say that it would be good if parents got it as a surprise for their child and told the child about it after the download is completed, but if the creature has to be customized before the download, I doubt that would be a viable option.

It's also interesting that it's shipped with a USB stick. I've been wondering whether developers would start doing that at some point.

I got really bored once and designed a Megastructure, similar to the dyson sphere, that encircles a star. The star in the centre is gyrated through one revolution each year to create the seasons, and it would rotate to produce gravity. Different zones of the sphere would have differing amounts of gravity - For example, the normal habitable zone would experience roughly 1G of gravity, while industrial zones might experience much less - enough to make sure that things don't float away, yet small enough to make the lifting of huge objects in their costruction easier. The external area of the sphere would experience "negative gravity," which would mean that launching objects into space would be made easier, ridding the inhabitants of the need for rockets or space elevators.

This would certainly suffer from the same problems as Globus Cassus, and transporting objects across the huge surface - an area of roughly 2.8x10^17 square meters - would be extremely time consuming, but like Globus Cassus, the chances of somebody actually attempting such an endeavour are roughly a trillion to one, so these problems don't matter. :D

I've always hated the ability of birds to crap indiscriminately. I always seem to be their number one target. D:

When I heard this, I thought that people were talking about what would be better to have as a pet. In that case, it would definately be the horses, but a fight could go either way, depending on the tactics used. If the horses just swarmed the duck all at once, then they could very easily smother it. But if the duck took off, it wouldn't be a fair fight at all, unless the horses inexplicably haid AA guns.

In my opinion, they should forget about a fight, and join together to take down the bigger threat; COMMUNISM! :P

This is an argument that's been going around my school recently, and I thought that it's pretty funny, so I'll bring it here.

In a fight, what would win, a duck the size of a horse, or a hundred horses, each the size of a duck? :P

Just as Hitler united Germany again, Obama has brought together America (with different political beliefs, of course.) As Pepper said, history has a nasty way of repeating itself, even if not the same everytime.
The only video clip I've actually seen of Obama was a two second clip of him during a speech, in which he was holding up his hand in a similar fashion to a Nazi salute. Maybe he doesn't have different political beleifs.
Iceland
You kidding me? That country had to be bailed out by other countries because of their economic meltdown!
I highly doubt a country which is dependent on other countries for financial support will ever become even vaguely powerful.
Are you sure? Iceland's part of the Mid-Atlantic ridge, right? Maybe the Iceland we know is just the tip of the iceberg, and just the visible part of a vast and powerful underwater empire spanning the entire Atlantic? One day they're going to surface and take over the East Coast of America, and Ireland, Britain and the West Coast of Europe. :P

It's only the dumbass mindless assholes that scream at their televisions all night that wont go anywhere.
Reminds me of one time when TrooperDX3117 tried to show me the last level of Far Cry once. Two and a half hours of sitting next to someone screaming at the screen is not nice. Nor is having to try and calm them down:
Me - "It's alright, I don't have to see the ending. I wasn't that interested in the game."
Him - "NO IT'S NOT ALRIGHT! YOU HAVE TO SEE THIS! I HAVE TO DO THIS! I KNOW I CAN DO THIS! AAARRRGH!!! :furious: "
Kids have been growing up and turning out fine without Myspace since the dawn of time
That's the first thing I thought when I saw this, but to be honest, if there is someone who doesn't have a Bebo or Myspace page, surrounded by friends who do, they would tend to get excluded from conversations that are concerning things discussed on the internet. It used to happen to me all the time when the people in my school discovered Bebo.

Well I definitely believe that there is other life out there.
And if there are aliens visiting our planet, maybe to study us or whatever, then I think that the appearance of foo fighters during WW2 adds substance to that idea. Assuming that there were at least some sightings that weren't illusions or hallucinations, then they may be aliens observing the war.
If you had an ant farm, and the ants suddenly started killing each other, then you would take more of an interest in them.

Of course, maybe South Park was right. Maybe Earth is just a reality show, and all of the UFO's in history are just cameras used to record our actions. :D

I don't get vegetarianism. We, as humans, evolved to eat other animals. As long as they're humanely killed, there should be no moral reason not to eat them. They're probably not (I'm at least 1% sure of this) self aware anyway, so they probably won't care about dying, other than their instinctive urge to survive.
There's also the fact that, being alive, they'll die at some point anyway (that point most likely being near the end of their life :D), so we may as well make sure that they'll die before they get old and the meat on there bones is lost.

Plus there's also the fact that they're tasty.

in Host_Error: no precache: *1???????????? Post #254299
http://www.slackiller.com/tommy14/errors.htm
Precache is a game memory problem. It often could be you have a bad path/name for a sprite/model/wav. But it can also be that you have too many kinds or too large sprites, models(400 obj limit?), wav sound files(limit<3min) or entitys(data limit ~0.5M) and have overfilled the space setup for them. (see also SVC bad below.) Sometimes combining entities into fewer helps, but usually you will have to simplify to fewer kinds of sprites/models, or smaller sprites/models/wavs. Occasionally this error happens when you are using a corrupted or non-standard model/sprite. Using other folk's prefabs are often hidden reasons for this problem.
Sometimes the "too many wads" problem sets this off, or having a brush textured with AAAtrigger texture visible in the map will cause this problem.
