Almost across the board all entries were based on Crossfire
Were there really that many Crossfire-inspired maps?
Well mine wasn't, and Jessies wasn't... But other than that off the top of my head I can't remember who else's wasn't!

Cool you got a hold of Dario though, Arch!

It would be nice to have a story driven FPS WW2 game sort of in the same vein of cod1 or MOH but where you get to be on the German side for once. I really liked the German campaigns in the original Company of Heros because it was such an interesting perspective! But that was RTS and not FPS.

Or I remember in the original Operation Flashpoint where a lot of early missions were about retreating, or 'losing' a fight because you were fighting a stronger force. I haven't really seen that done much in games like that.
I also like exploring the themes on the nature of war, the 'why am I doing this' not the 'what am I doing' sort of like in Spec Ops: the Line.

In terms of RPGs I really liked ones like Morrowind because they made you think a bit more about how to reach objectives (ie instead of having map markers you had to read a journal) and the lore was super deep but it wasn't forced - you could explore the reasons of the world as much or little as you wanted

Competition was closed on 1st of April. Results will never be posted because the compo was actually an April fools joke
It was also a ruse to get people to upload maps to the map vault, therefore helping the sites meta which boosted its Google analytic ranking and therefore produced more ad revenue, which goes to the admins.

Who are also the judges of the competition?

Ohhhhh COINCIDENCE!!!?!?!?

Well technically your entry doesnt have to look visually 'good'... When I did my level for TWHL tower or last comp I knew I wasn't very good at making visually interesting stuff so I just smashed something together and made it abstract/weird. Therefore its strength was in its personality and not its architecture.

When has he promoted homophobia and violence? And how do you promote pettiness? Pettiness seems like a weird thing to promote.

in What motivates you? Post #333052
I found when making HL stuff that playing various HL mods/maps gave me a lot of motivation, especially when considering design and puzzles and stuff. Its kind of like surfing, you catch a wave and smash some stuff out and when you run out of steam you just wait for the next wave.

I took some time over the recently holidays to work on my competition map because I had a lot of free time... But yeah when you're working 5 days a week there isn't a lot of time to sit down and think about that stuff as much (unless you catch a wave!).

Quick question, how do I delay a teleport trigger?
I've got a trigger_teleport with a Delay before Trigger set to 10 seconds but the delay doesn't seem to work, the teleport happens Straight away.
Is there a way around this?

Sims 2 was awesome, but I loved Sims 3 more (nothing like open neighborhood!). But Sims 2 had a certain feel to it that when you played it, it just felt right.

Sims 1 was the bomb though, I still play that on occasion!

I remember the E3 days when the Sims 2 was talk of the town, Max Payne 2 had free t-shirts and people were getting up in arms about how much pressure their computer is going to be under running HL2.

Oh and you could play a Diakatana demo on one of Ion Storms booths!

Heart of Darkness was a cool mod, trying to build a jungle setting in the HL engine may be tricky, so if you're trying to build similar to that mod maybe take some screenshots of some levels and duplicate them in the editor to get ideas of where you want to go with it.

in NEED TUTORIAL URGENTLY Post #328937
Well theres a ton of tutorials if you want to sift through YouTube -
heres a couple of basic ones to help in making a mod:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1VyoitE17Wc (fundamentals)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h5jNKWcX8Io (getting NPCs to talk and move)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w8zOKGs4ZR8 (first of 4 videos which covers a lot of ground such as arranging the mods directory and stuff)

I havnt watched all those videos but it might be a good starting place... There are more tutorials on YouTube on how to mod for HL2 than there are for HL1 unfortunately, so if all bases arnt covered via videos you may have to resort to ye olde fasion way of reading: http://twhl.info/tutorial.php?cat=1

edit: and regarding making new items, you would need to use some modeling tools to do that... I havnt done any, but someone one here may know where to find some videos.

Wait, so for clarity we just make a map, put a story behind it within the context of 'finding a way home' (or helping the people back at Black Mesa?) and once were finished we send the map to Tetsu0 I'm assuming? Is there a deadline? Or is all the info in the Dropbox download?
