the article talks of making it 'as real to the eye as possible'

So that - for example - you move from dark to light too quickly, your eyes will need a few valuable seconds to refocus

Hey WinRAR is legally free, you don't have to circumvent anything with a serial to keep it working after 30 days, you're just SUPPOSED to register it. And how many of us always do what we're supposed to ;o?

Yeah, all it does after the trial expires is go "ohemgee buy me!!!~!11!" but you can just close that box and it will still work properly.

Essentially, the game's saying that the texture has a defined $detailtype but it's not defined in the detail.vbsp (or there's no detail.vbsp at all.) You can ignore it, the only sideeffect is that the grass sprites will not appear on it.

To continue - I wonder if they'll use some of the features that didn't make it into the initial Source build like that new rendering system which reads data from photographs and then renders photorealistic environments based on them - Since Source is component-based they're able to easily replace and add onto it.

in What do you think of this? Post #102524
PWNED ;-)

Ok, as you may have guessed MI! isn't dead. It was a joke. But we have some good news. Most of you know that we had a lot of problems with the team. The motivation was at 2% and some members have left the team.

The problem was and is the time we (the team) need for such a project. Our most important members have to go to work or are studying at university. Darkangel our main coder is one of them. He's still on the team, but is very busy with his real life. It took a while, until we found a 2nd coder, Chris. He did a good job and helped us out, but then he suddenly disappeared. We tried to contact him, but he didn't answer.

So we searched the net and found the website of his former mod "Jailbreak". We got in contact with Flyer, he was also a member of "Jailbreak" and lives in the same town as Chris. He told us, that Chris has some problems with his real life. After some weeks without a coder, he offered us his help as a coder. Since this day he's working on the next version, which will include a lot of bug fixes and changes.

I really hope that we can release the mod soon, but pls also respect, that we all have a real life, which is much more important.

Looks like it might be a fairly decent start.

You should use a higher displacement (ie 4) for the terrain, though, and make it smoother and more realistic - Make it extend out, too with a 3d skybox. The other thing is that the level seems dependent on props - You should experiment more with some architectural (ie brushwork) effects. And play around with some different lighting, and sprites - Everything's sort of white and flat at the mo' ;(

Make sure the model origin is within the map.

Move the sky camera out of the solid.

prop_physics for all those error-causing ents. Set 'em motion disabled if they can't move.

PortalFlow calculates the PVSs for the entire map, really, and in outdoor maps such as yours it takes a long time. Leave it overnight, and if the computer isn't vital, leave it for a few days. Only run -full VIS on final compiles this way, though.

All the palm trees were models in the skybox, not the actual map (Well, the head bits at least. There's a trunk and head bit, the head goes in the skybox.) There's a full palm tree model for off in the distance in the skybox, too. (By the way, skyboxes with the tree props need to be at 1/4th scale, not 1/16th.)
