Hey there guys. I've resurfaced for about 24 more hours. A buddy of mine has a Vaio laptop tat I've put HL2 on... pretty awesome graphics.

I'm here for about 24 hours really, thenm it's a LONG HAUL back home to Pittsburgh (maybe) :nuke:

Hey all. It's been a while since I been here. Wanted to pop in and say hello and see how everyone is doing.

I've been moving around like crazy, but will probably soon be settled in Michigan near Port Huron.

I don't have my computeranymore, but once I get a computer, I'll be sure to put HL2 back on it :)

Well the problem is I am trying to build a CS:S map and it's sluggish.

I noticed it doesn't do it when I have the HL2 hammer config running - the CS:S does - could it be the 2 loaded fgd's are conflicting?

It seems that Steam has started to bog down my system even with nothing else running.

I noticed it AFTER the HL2 game update.

Need some advice from the computer savvy out there.

Actually I ended up loading both FGD's into Hammer.

Seemed to have worked, but now the video's view is backwards (like mirror image)

The bunkers SHOULD be to the right, not the left.

Now I DO have 2 cams in the map, with func_monitor's pointing at each. Is there something I need to do to get them to work individually, cuz I think what is happening is I'm only able to look at 1 cam.

Alright so I have an FGD I downloaded that has the point_camera, func_monitor, and info_camera_link classes in it.

I figured I would just add those class sets to my existing cstrike.fgd through notepad per seventh's suggestion.

What I come up with is NOTHING... I start hammer, and then suddenly the point ent's aren't there. When I go to REOPEN the fgd, I notice it isn;t there even though *I* added it into it prior to starting hammer.

What am I doing wrong?

Let me tell you something. I've been around this site for almost a year longer than you have. I know quite a bit about mapping. I will bet money that even the best mappers out there still seem to ask questions.

And that brings me to my next bone to be picked with you. Asking mapping questions in a mapping forum category is NOT spamming.

As you guys know I've been toying with the camera stuff.

Since my example map, I've managed to even attach a cam to a tumbling barrel..... the thing tumbles with the barrel.

I must apologize to those who are thinking "So, what?"

I'm just really psyched out about the physics and capabilities of HL2 mapping.

Wow - It seems the more I explore the more I figure out - you can close this thread.

For those who havent figured it out...

place a "point_camera" in your map, give it a name such as...... "cam"

place a brush (preferrably with it's handle lined up vertically with the cam's handle (little x) ) directly under it, and call it "rotate" (or anything else)... give it the "nodraw" texture and it will not show up, but still serve it's purpose.

You HAVE to designate in the point_camera options under "parent" the name of the brush underneath.

Of course place your monitor somewhere, and watch it rotate :)

Now if anyone knows of an easier way of doing this, please feel free to let me know.

I've been playing with the idea of getting together some people for a Mod I want to create called "The Great Escape".

Picture this... Freeman is in the hands of the G-Man... Gordon defies him, and gets put into a prison similar to where Eli was being kept.

His mission, to escape the prison, then the compound, and take down the G-Man!

Now here's the sticky part.....

HAYULP!!!!!!! :)

Any takers? ANy advice?

Okay - with Hammer, MAP | UNITS - the options are inches, and feet + inches...

Now I noticed when switched between inches, and none, the # is the same...

So... according to that.....

1 unit = 1 inch ?????

I know we've discussed this before, but could they have simply put that as a reference???

Upon using that fgd, I made a map and tried to play it... kept saying both teams were full - although they werent. ALso the models for the CT's and T's were the same you see as Gordon's model... a green guy.

I had tyo switch back out - I suppose I cant use a camera then.

Is there any way to ADD that to the CURRENT fgd I have?

It says to replace the fgd's I have in hammer with those fgd's (one for each, HL2 and CS:S...) are the UPDATED or are they missing any objects? I can't really seem to make heads or tails of it to really be able to tell...

PS- I noticed you can put cameras in HL2, and HL2 Deathmatch... why not CS:S? I think it would be a cool thing to have in CS... be able to tell if your teammates are coming up the stairs or an enemy.

Not true... in HL1 mapping, if you have the camera follow gordon, you see his model.....
