The player ship is a func_movelinear that can be controlled with the A and D keys using a game_ui. The projectiles are instanced func_movelinear entities, spawned from an env_entity_maker that is parented to the player ship.

That is all I got at the moment. :)

Started work on my own attempt at a vertical arcade shooter.
I got nothing that's considered playable yet, there's tons of work to be done, but here's a little something to drool over:

Haha, dude! This is very freakin' awesome. I've never played Bosconian before and that's why I thought this would play like any other traditional vertical/side scrolling shooters from the DOS era like Tyrian and Major Stryker, but this is pretty darn neat. Nicely done. :D

It's pretty tough lining yourself up to attack something without getting hit, it doesn't help that enemy shots one hit kill you.

You should definitely develop this further with more ships, more lasers and more explosions because awesomeness.

This whole thing got me thinking of attempting something similar of my own, however, I'm going for vertical scrolling shooter gameplay. Hopefully I can put something playable together in a reasonable short time. Attack of the B-Team (Minecraft Modpack) is taking up all my free time at the moment. User posted image

I've always wanted to attempt something similar to that, Tetsu0, a topdown vertical/side scrolling shooter like Tyrian User posted image and Major Stryker User posted image , some of my favorite shooters from the DOS era. Good stuff.

Kinda looking forward to that map. Do you have some media to show?

Another tip I can give you is that when you compile your map for testing, don't load your map from an autosave/quicksave that you made during a previous session, as that save file may contain data that's no longer valid because your bsp has been updated with new data.

The value for the keys is the delay in seconds before fire, after the multi_manager is triggered. Just change the values to 1 if you want a 1 second delay, 0.5 for half a second delay and 0 (no delay) for instant firing.

I suggest you use a front end for compiling your maps, it's much less of a hassle. I would suggest my own, but it's not entirely bug free and has some issues, but it will compile fine if you set it up correctly which is pretty self explanatory.

Otherwise, use Sledge's built-in compiler, and while you're at it, use Sledge for mapping as well. :)

I think the SoHL dev(s) use sparks to indicate a problem with an entity. In my TWHL Tower map I have a path laid out of scripted_sequences for a scientist to follow, but during testing the scientist couldn't make it to the second scripted_sequence, and then a spark appeared above it, even though I never placed an env_spark entity at that location.

So yeah, it's a debug feature it looks like. :)

Until yesterday I've used the vanilla HL FGD file to map my floor, I'm now using the SoHL FG that came with the twhltower mod folder. And now all of a sudded my scripted sequences are really glitchy. The transition between an action animation to a regular idle stance is no longer smooth, if that makes any sense.

Setting the angle of a monster that is spawned from a monstermaker does'nt work any more. Even when I set the angles, Hammer tells me the monstermaker has unused keyvalue.

Looks like I need to use the 'Angles of monster [LV]' field but that doesn't work either.

EDIT: Nevermind, it works anyway.

Too bad there's no damage inflicted. There are no disasters either, with the exception of fires. The devs are going to add disasters in a future update though, at least that's what they said.

Still working on mine, however I spend too much time working on details, not so much on the layout, which is not good. I really want to get mine in. I'm at work at the moment, as soon as I get home I'm going to continue working on it.

Also, Cities Skylines is coming out today that I'm really looking forward too, but I must resist not playing it until my floor is done. Such torture.

No, I had a texture that was to large. Fixed now.

So with VHLT, are you supposed to use the lights.rad file still? I ask this because the VHLT download has all the texturelight values in lights.rad commented out.

I say start with Visual Basic .NET, learn the absolute basics such as variable declarations, arrays, creating methods and functions, classes, properties, expressions and all that good stuff.

Once you master that you can switch gears and pick a different language.

Follow these sets of tutorial video's by Bob Tabor on Channel9:
Visual Basic Fundamentals: Development for Absolute Beginners

This guy really does a good job at explaining all the in's and out's of Visual Basic and Object Oriented Programming in general.

Ah yes Urby, I remember the env_warpball entity. I totally didn't like the way it works. It felt off, timing wise. I'd rather use my own prefab which, in my opinion has perfect timings, but can be adjusted, if desired. It uses TWO (!) monstermaker entities to make the actual monster spawn as soon as the size of the green sprite doesn't expand any more.

But oh well, that's just my two cents. :)

Difficulty settings are client side, when you create your character. Hardmode might be the default setting. I don't know if you can change it to softcore mode without creating a new character first though, if you can't, you need to create a new character.

Softcore mode lets you keep all your stuff, you only drop 50% of each type of coin in your inventory.

You still want a new world then?

It's kicking me for "projectile spam" when I use crystal bullets with the Clockwork Assault Rifle. Not really a problem, I guess, but annoying.
Fixed.

If you're using Hammer, there's an option to find brushes, go to the menu Map ---> Go to brush number... You can punch in the brush numbers there. Entity 0 simply means that the faulty brush is just regular world brush, it has no entity assigned to it.

As for the light_spot, make sure you specify a high enough brightness. If you need your light to point down, enter -90 in the property Pitch.

Multiplayer Terraria is a lot of fun, but yes, I agree, fresh characters only. I will start a new thread as soon as the Terraria server is up and running.

The Minecraft server is now gone and has been replaced with Terraria.

When you join, please start with a fresh character, so everyone starts even.

NOTE! Difficulty setting is clientside! So it's totally up to you how difficult you want to play the game. You can set the difficulty when you create your character.

Rim, that zip file of yours has no playable BSP's in it. I messaged you on Steam about it, maybe you didn't see it. Can you repack it? I don't really want to chase down all the authors and manually download their entries.

As for the Minecraft code, I'm getting rid of Minecraft on the server and replace it with Terraria. Soo perhaps a Terraria code is in place?
