I don't think there should be a limit of maps to submit at a time. If you get errors uploading, it submits a map that doesn't work, so I once had about 4 broken maps, and then the real thing. Maybe if you're allowed to submit more if you delete others you submitted.

Atom, your ideas for curing the site of its "ailment" are brilliant. However, we do need rules to sort out spammers etc. But other than that, great idea. Ranks sound good, but make it really difficult to get the high ranks (EG: highest rank is 10: 1-5 is easy enough, 6-7 could be harder, 8-9 difficult, and 10 would only be for hardcore members. And I'm not talking about pornography ;) )

The map vault ideas are good, but we need to have it in mod sections,
EG:

HL, CS, HL mods (TFC, OF, BS, SC etc.), and have this for every vault except maybe the example vault.

I like both those ideas. The second makes it nice and clear, but it should also state whether it is for HL, CS, HL mods, or an actual mod, just to ensure people don't screw it up. Call them maps and advanced maps. Advanced maps would probably be things like subzone (OK, maybe that's too advanced... ;) ) or enigma 7. I would say any maps I make would go in the regular maps section, since I tend to take the easy way out when mapping. RacerX, your first suggestion has already been done (See "where to start" in the sidebar), but we should make it a LOT more obvious. These are all excellent ideas though, and I suggest we get as many of our regular members as possible to try to sort it out. As for atom, he is actually extremely easy to contact, and replies very quickly. He just almost never appears on the site, and it's not difficult to see why. Time limits for map submissions are a good idea as well, 7th.

in TWHL is drowning - Do something about it Post #44708
Unfortunately, TWHL is dying. And I think most of these ideas have great potential, but no individual idea is good enough on its own. I say we do the following:

1: Get one or two more moderators to check the forums for spam, people going seriously off-topic, flaming, swearing etc. They would be part-time, but should check the forums as much as possible, keeping the moderating time realistic (Obviously, they don't have to ruin their holidays by going to internet cafes just to sort out the forums).

2: Get a team of moderators for the map vault. They could read the comments for the map, if the reaction suggests the map(s) is/are effortless, pointless, showing off, or flooding/spamming the vault, they should email the person who submitted about the problem, and if necessary, delete the map. At the moment, I have to wade through several pages of pointless maps just to find one or two that I'm looking for.

3: Encourage new people to look at tutorials before asking questions. Bring back the old forums! Originally, there was a General Mapping forum, Stuff forum, Site comments forum, and a forum for each individual tutorial (Obviously, keep the new Maps and mods forum). The individual tutorial forums meant that people would at least see a list of tutorials in the forums before going to answer questions that have been answered in the tutorials. Encourage new people to search the forums for help as well.

4: Break up the vault. Have a CS completed section (Most maps tend to be CS), a HL completed section (Second most popular), HL mod completed section (EG: Opfor, BS, TFC, Spirit etc.), Problem section (HL, mods, and CS), Example section (HL, mods, and CS), Unfinished section (HL, mods, and CS), Completed model section, Unfinished model section, and also include a mod section for any HL mods people have made. This will make finding things easier, and remove the chance of having to wade through several CS maps to find a TFC map, for example.

I can model a bit. Depends if you want improved models or models from scratch. I can't do models from scratch very well, but I'm sure I will be able to eventually. Intro level should go in completed if it's finished, but unfinished if not.

This is a very important point that we all need to look at and sort out. We've just lost two of our best members, because this place is turning into a spam hole, filled with lazy new people who want help, but because they don't put in any effort whatsoever to look for tutorials, they keep spamming the place with "How do you do this? How do you do that?". Not only does this drive people insane, but it shows that the place is dying. This never happened in the old TWHL. We need all our mods here if possible (Yes, that includes atom), so we can search the forums, point people in the right direction, warn them not to ask for things without looking for a tutorial on the site first, and then everything will be fine.

Also, the map vault is a complete shambles: There must be hundreds of maps made by people who have only just got to grips with mapping, and think that we'll think they're good if they submit a quick 2 minute map to show they can map. However, they shouldn't be submitting first maps, test maps, and maps which are of a low standard IE: rushed, effortless etc. We really need to look at these, and possibly put up a set of map vault rules (And of course, remove maps which we decide are spamming the vault). These include only putting up maps which you feel are worth releasing to the public in completed maps (OK, so I was guilty of crap maps early on, but I deleted them a while ago), but example maps are fine at the moment, and problem maps is ok. People really should sort out their finished and unfinished maps though. It's pointless to put an unfinished map in the completed section, just as it's pointless to post up a map with a start point, a weapon, and an alien, just to show you can map.

Right, let's get this place back to normal again now.

And as for everything bad I've done in the past, I'm really sorry. I won't do any of it again :(

in HL PS2 models Post #40123
Pepper: Not all of the models were ripped, and those that were have been heavily improved.

Advice for everyone: If you can't get model transparency (Like the glasses on Ambient.Impact's scientist), download the DoD transparency dlls from one of the threads in the help desk forum (I think). Or use Steam. DON'T use both. WON: Dlls; Steam: No Dlls.
BTW, use my models ;)

HIT's models are a lot better than the PS2 models. Conveniently, because some were ripped, they are very easy to convert and hack to bits. Look at the difference between the PS2 scientist and AI's scientist. Same with the grunts, although I liked the PS2 grunt. Barney looks very similar to the original, but has still been improved a lot.

in trigger_camera Post #39001
Hmm...are you sure you set everything up correctly? You don't have to turn off the camera. You can target it, and in it (the camera)'s properties, set it to hold for however long. Don't bother targetting it again with the multimanager. If you already have set this, I have no idea what is causing the problem. Just make sure you set it in the correct box. Also, I think seconds in HL are shorter than seconds in real life, but that still doesn't explain it since you set it to 500. But if you set it to say, 10 seconds, it would hold for 10 HL seconds, and then stop. If you are targetting it a second time with the multimanager, don't. I've never tried it before, so I have no proof that it works (Or, indeed, doesn't work), but I know it works if you set the hold time correctly.
