No. Subliminal advertising targets specifically the unconscious mind whilst the conscious mind remains oblivious. When we look at an advertisement, from billboards to TV commercials, the conscious mind pays little attention to them -- however the unconscious mind is being bombarded with all kinds of suggestions. As you may or may not now, sex sells. It is the most common method of gaining people's attention. It is frequently used in car sale adverts etc. But there is a more sinister side to it. Even the most unlikely adverts such as on TV use subliminal 'sex' references our unconscious mind receives. Such methods are used excessively in the Dyson Hoover adverts on television. It sounds absurd to think that such a subject in normal terms would be a likely candidate for such a subject, but look twice...

Sure, but ask yourself, 'WHY WOULD A VACUUM CLEANER ADVERT BROADCASTING THROUGHOUT THE DAY/NIGHT SUM UP THESE OBVIOUS CONNOTATIONS?' Sure, a sense of humour, but surely they would regulate that sense of humour. At first I laughed when I seen that advert because I just could not believe they have the ordasity to display such a slogan knowing that it could be interpreted in another way. The truth is, they do not care about our ethics and morals, they just want us to consume till we drop dead, if it means communicating through different ways of fulfilling human desires then sure, why wouldnt they? It works. Lots of people drink coca-cola without a shred of insight into what poisons are being used to supress their intellect simply beacuse it satisfies them. I still smoke cigarettes knowing that they are full of thousands of harmful chemicals that have the potential to cause serious illness to myself and others simply because it's enjoyable and addictive -- just like coca-cola. In the early days when they actually used cocaine in the drink, they made sure people would be addicted to the pleasures that it had to offer and buy the shit repeatedly. These people are crooks, the establishment are all a bunch of crooks and it's time we stop laughing and joking about it and start thinking about it, for once. Consumerism and materialism is among the many different methods of insuring that the population can be controlled through their own pleasure and enjoyment. People who devote their entire lives to look good incase others might laugh at them are just system slaves controlled only by the fear of what others think about them. It's not cool to be intellectual these days. To be cool you need a complete frontal labotomy and a completelack of knowledge needed to evolve as human beings. We are all system slaves, we are all under a form of mass control and delusion which is very difficult to seperate from. The sooner we all wake up and stop messing around the better.

if it were truly subliminal we wouldn't notice it at all.Precisely the purpose of subliminal advertising. If we knew it was subliminal, then we would feel we were being cheated. They have to ensure no one really understands.
As for the Dyson advert, OK, it's a little O.T.T to suggest that using BJ references might help us go out and buy vacuum cleaners, but true subliminal advertising is much more subtle. Hidden suggestions are almost hypnotically implanted in our unconscious mind telling us that our needs can be fulfilled 'if' we visit the Carphone Warehouse etc.
When we watch TV and we see loads of crappy insurance adverts with Carol Vordamen etc, a normal human being would not consciously give a fuck about her or her shitty adverts, only our unconscious is targeted. Most subliminal messages we recieve are not even used to sell the product advertised, but rather implanting various suggestions in our unconscious telling us how to think, behave, co-operate, etc. If you watch the film by John Carpenter called 'They Live' you'll see an almost identical scenario to true life. In the film their are a set of special shades that when put on allow you to see so-called reality as it truly is. All the adverts suddenly change from looking average to big bold, black text saying things like 'Get married and reproduce' and 'Obey' etc. The shades also cause the true identy of world leaders to unveil, horrible scaley reptile-looking creatures. (If you know much about what I know this isn't so far-fetched at all)
As for the protest songs, definately. I can try to help you out in that. Beware you don't get shot or die in a 'car accident' if your songs get too popular though...

Subliminal advertising DOES definately work, thats why the companies get payed big bucks (and a lot of money). But it can always be argued that while all successful advertisments have subtle innuendo, the question in my opinion has always been, "what is mind control ('first degree' cooercion, if you will
) and what is very clever manipulation?"Babies use 'mind control' by emitting a really annoying sound which taps into the humans innate sense of caring to get a response from adults. Eg goes "waaaah!" when it craps. Women wear red lipstick because it looks reminds men of swollen 'lady bits'. Pester power, guilt trips, reverse psychology, lying etc. are all forms of manipulation, and all far more effective at getting results. It can't be simply 'mind control' if you are trying to get someone to do something they probably wouldn't. We all do this, ever day. It seems 'mind control' is a term used for 'bad' manipulation, eg getting people to buy things or kill people 'against their will' (against their will, btw is bull, since the manipulation changes the persons will)
The whole thing is such a grey issue, the law doesn't really have a place to start. Thats why advertisers can do it (unless it blatently flashes KILL ALL HIPPIES during an advert) and why brainwashing cults (as opposed to normal, harmless idiot 'space man' cults) can get away with indoctrination of followers using the most powerful techniques. www.rickross.com has a very good selection of texts on cults and the techniques they use, btw.

The whole idea of 'choice' makes no sense. You don't really make choices which are truly free, unless its something basic like when to eat and sleep. What you got to remember Mephs is that control is both two sides of the same coin. In other words, it does not matter if you are socialist or a conservative, a protestant or catholic, the two divisions are occupied by the same ruling elite.
