This month I started to notice my hard drives being a bit louder than the last time I paid attention to that. Both of them. Needless to say, I'm a bit concerned.

It MIGHT be because I unplugged a case fan that was making this horribly annoying grinding noise (will get a new one one of these days) that might have been masking the HDD noises. But I'm still a bit concerned.

Is anybody knowledged in this regard?

I'M FREAKIN' SCREWED

So today I decided to install the Escape from the darkness mod into steam. I played it before in WON and already know that software mode crashes the mod. The steamfix that was handed out appears only to give the mod a steam background, not much else.

Anyway once I launched this mod it crashes to the desktop saying D3d is not allowed or something and tries to launch in OpenGL. This is bad. My computer is not good with OpenGL and framerates are bad even with vanilla. Then openGL crashed and it tries to launch in software, which looks horrible in steam so I never use it. Then software crashed.
Then I tried another mod and it force switches to software and crashed.
Then I tried vanilla and it force switches to software and crashed.
Then I tried Opposing force (in another folder from vanilla) and it force switches to software and crashed.

And prior to this my computer switches to a bluescreen and crashed.

Even if you're not a fan of Zero Punctuation, you should definitely skip to to 5:35 in this one if you're a fan of Half-Life. :D

Enjoy

Just noticed that Torchlight 2 is going on pre-order. Seeing as the first one was pretty fun albeit with a dull story, I figure I'm gonna get this one. Especially since they added multiplayer for the new one (!!!). Anyone else planning to get it?

Although I'm definitely going for Diablo 3 first. Bound to be at least 1000 times epic.

On a side note, don't you wish more RPG games employed loot-runners like the pets in Twilight do? What I'd give for a follower that sells off my junk whilst I explore.

[MEDIA INBOUND]
Bumping the thread doesn't really seem worth bugging the admins for at this point, so I'll just toss this here.

A few screenshots of some models I've edited for Colony 42, poorly put together courtesy of my lack of image editng skills :P

Of special note is the shotgun, which I reanimated thanks to gearbox rigging the stock on their default HD model. It now gets flipped up into proper usage position when drawn, and goes back onto the frame when holstered. Looks damn nice ingame.

Maps on the other hand, have not being going so quickly. I just can't seem to get motivated to map for anything at all, let alone this project I've been doing since late '08. I need to learn how to map at a decent speed.

A neat look at the design process of Cendark3 - one of my maps for The Core. Note that this video begins when the map is around 2 days into development already, then continues through three days of additions and tweaks.

I really like this method of showing changes, and I'll definitely be doing it on future maps!

Last night I had a very strange lesson to learn for today's math semestrial test. It was about polynomials, specifically solving algebraic equations with complex roots.

Hopefully, I knew at the test. I'm so relieved now!

While we're on a dream journal binge...I'd like to stop mine. I wouldn't go as far as to say they're nightmares, but they're not pleasant either, and they keep waking me up. Been having them for about a business week now. They all have to do with things falling out of my control, going too fast, people moving on while I'm left behind. Most of them end up having to do with my friends.

I think it's anxiety from the fact that we'll be graduating soon, and most of them will go to university while I'm doing an extra semester next year. Things are going to get mighty quiet in my social life, and honestly, I think even with the friends who are staying to do what I'm doing, I'll be pretty lonely.
I don't want them to leave me behind, and it's making me lose sleep. :(

Ok, new dream. Certainly more disturbing that what I'm used to.

I've got a new job, on a production line, skinning live cats. Now now, don't jump for the "sick fuck" responses just yet. The cats were fine. Underneath their fur and skin, they had more fur and skin. It was as though cats were meant to shed their skins from time to time, but the process just would not occur naturally. The thing is, the cats fur was identical underneath, same colours, pattern etc.

I go home and decide that I might as well skin my cat while I'm at it.

I run a Stanley knife down the side of my cat, peel away the top skin, but the fur underneath is black. The black cat, kicks and thrashes out of the outer skin and scurries to the other end of the room, then sits in the corner and hisses at me.

Then I woke up...

I can only assume that this means my cat is a spy.

I had a curious dream the other day. It was a quiet summer morning and I happened to be right across the street from the small building where my grandparents live on the first floor (of 3). There was a vacant lot with tall grass (in reality, there has been another 3-story building since before I was born). My grandmother was leaning on the balcony railing, looking down, and I talked to her as if I didn't know her.
  • Excuse me, could you tell me what year is this?
  • Certainly sir, it's 1985.
  • Thank you.
  • Don't mention it sir.
So yeah. She didn't know me because I hadn't been born yet. Also I'm sure that building was there long before 1985, but that's probably the least of my problems :P

I generally have the most average dreams. People always describe awesome adventures in their dreams, not me, my dreams are pretty much little tidbits of everyday life. These dreams are also few and far between, I often wish for more exciting/more frequent dreams but they never come.

I thought this was interesting though, a dream from two nights ago that was based on TWHL. Again it wasn't very exciting but odd. Basically I loaded up the site and decided to check out a recent journal posted by Stojke. In his journal he described having frequent dreams about TWHL. He brought it up because in a past journal Striker had written about having frequent dreams about TWHL.

Apparently in my dreams everyone dreams of TWHL.

How incredibly coincidental that my hard drive dies at the same time my exams begin to start.. maybe I should do some revision for once... exams have already started. Grand.

I had a very vivid dream last night. Well 2 actually. In my first dream I was having to go away on business for a month, to the other end of the country. The thing is, I had to leave my house in the early hours of the morning so my wife was fast asleep. I kissed her on the forehead and left my house, knowing I wouldn't see it again for some time. I felt genuinely emotional and was so relieved when I woke myself up at 4am. :P

The second dream happened between then and when my alarm went off at 6:30am. I was in my house again, during a torrential downpour and there was a leak in the ceiling. I went upstairs to check it and the entire upper floor was sodden, the carpet cold and full of water. Same with the bed. The place was a mess.

I looked up both of these things online this morning. The first dream apparently symbolises that my life is changing, moving forwards. Not reluctance to do so, just an awareness that change is coming.

The second one tickled me a little:

"To see a leak in your dream symbolizes loss, disappointments, frustrations and distress. You are wasting your energy on fruitless endeavors."

Then I went to work.
