This is probably optically and mechanically the most advanced and best lens I have ever owned. But its tiny size and ridiculous blue and silver finish makes me literally embarrassed to use it in a professional setting. It looks like a toy.

Last year The Core got 3rd place in the 2012 Mod of the Year awards (out of 20,574 mods) thanks to your voting. I hate to ask, but it's that time of year again. Can we do any better in 2013? If you've got a second, please vote - you don't even need to register!

Your wording implies that use of recognisable shapes a) does not fall within the confines of 'abstract' and b) was not intentional. On the contrary, the three which actually use objects (vantastic [royal mail van], laser chess [chess set] and mechanical flower [engine part]) are even named in such a way to maintain some sense of what they are, rather than trying to disguise them as you seem to think was the goal.

Gem Diffraction, Launching Trails and Restless Bolt were made with phsyics-enabled particles.

I can see a massive flaw in that the scientist doesn't have a pocket protector. Those pens could leak you know!

You oldskool motherfucker :D
Nice scientists, nice textures, nice everything!
Woohoo! Thanks
it could use a little dirty here and there
For sure, it's not had a detail pass yet so misc trash and decals haven't yet been applied.
The structural beams are rather close together, but let's assume they are bearing a huge load: about 3 modules are missing where the gates are, and there doesn't seem to be an alternative structure to compensate for this
There are huge concrete pillars behind each gate visible from the other side.
The shape of said beams is a bit unlikely for reinforced concrete, but assuming the shape doesn't matter, punching holes through them for pipes and air ducts would be catastrophic and they wouldn't be able to support the huge load they're probably under. You don't do that with this type of structure. You could have hollow core beams that would allow this, but they'd need to be taller.
The walls are plaster, and as such I think we can assume that there are stronger steel supports within the structure. This also accounts for the holes - very often seen in plaster.
The scientist's overcoat is not wrinkly enough.
I'll have you know that scientist is Urby and you will never find him without a freshly ironed labcoat - even in the event of a disaster.
the Black Mesa areas featured in The Core had a higher budget than the lambda labs
I doubt it had a larger budget, it simply didn't need to spend it on anti-mass spectrometers and flux capacitors and polarity reversing warp nacelles. :crowbar:

Cheers for the comments all!

While I support Source as Archie does, I can see why some people would prefer to work in a simpler system - Goldsource
So map for Goldsource. I'm talking about Trinity's uncanny ability to make a charming engine seem like a budget free-to-play shooter from 2006. It's utterly pointless.

There's a newer and better version of the HL engine that has all the new features of the trinity engine as well as many more, and it's much more stable and reliable. I can confirm that decals work with it.
It actually came out many years before the trinity engine and has received regular free updates ever since. I'd go as far as saying ts very existence somewhat calls into question the relevance of the trinity engine at all.
I suggest you use that.

No nonsense, no occasion, I just have a spare key for the new Batman game and if you want it, here's what to do:

Map a single scene inspired by the world of Batman. Provide 2 screenshots of your scene in this thread. That's it. Doesn't need to be a playable map, doesn't need to be provided in any form other than two images.

I'll pick a winner on Monday the 18th. If only one person enters, they get the game. There really are no limitations on this one - just a quickfire giveaway.

Speaking as someone who maps for Goldsource literally every day, I can categorically tell you that if you put the time in to learn Source, mapping for it is far easier and more rewarding than Goldsource. It has far fewer restraints on your creativity and experimenting with the gloriously simple, yet powerful I/O system is one of the most satisfying endeavors in mapping.

I'm not saying don't map for Goldsource, of course, I'm just repeating myself in saying that pretending it's somehow better than Source is just denying yourself the opportunity to learn something superior.

America has a parody clause that would maybe be loosely relevant, but it doesn't exist to cover stolen content. It's more for parodies to use the likeness of copyrighted content. While there is room for situational interpretation, Fair Use exists for the reasons I listed in my previous post and does not cover this.

I don’t understand why there is so much resistance here.
Given that you put your post on multiple sites and are still searching, I'm guessing you got a similar response to the one you got here and on 'Lopers more or less across the board. Why not consider that the response is valid and work to correct your opaqueness?

I particularly enjoyed your post:
There are so many legal things I could explain right now but I think it would be a waste of my time. From my experience talking with scared model rippers who know little about the law because they are not in the professional industry, nothing I say will be believed.
Which suggests not only that you've run into this exact same problem before, but that you've not learned from it at all. I work in an industry which has many crossovers with the games industry, particularly in terms of copyright law and I can categorically tell you there is no safety net for freelancers. The fact that you don't take this seriously is both insulting and incredibly obtuse.

I cannot say it any clearer:
I'm not trying to antagonize you, but you must understand the need for clarity and transparency when it comes to this sort of thing. Not once have I said don't do it - I have simply requested in clear, polite words for an answer to this question:
Do you have explicit permission to make this transaction? A 'positive relationship' is not legally binding.

I just saw the Interlopers version of this thread. When Hollow, a respected designer from Ubisoft says that your legal stance is groundless it certainly puts me off, particularly when you're so vague in your responses.

Do you have explicit permission to make this transaction? A 'positive relationship' is not legally binding. Further, if you do indeed have permission, why will Riot not supply you with the models? They obviously wouldn't waste time porting them for you, but they could at least provide them in a workable format.

I'm not trying to antagonize you, but you must understand the need for clarity and transparency when it comes to this sort of thing. Freelancers have to take extreme care because they have no employer who will take a fall for them - if they run into legal problems then it's all on them.

It is illegal if you're wanting to use non-creative commons assets without the copyright holder's permission, and given that Machinima certainly isn't non-profit it is potentially a red flag for a lot of people who might otherwise consider it.

If you have permission from Riot Games, you should probably lead with that.
