Place the object about 5 or 6 units from what you want it to rest on. When it renders in game it will be where you want it to.

Wow looks arnt everything. My computer now is better than Xbox 360's hardware. I do think the Revolution will be better because it has all the NES,SNES,N64,and gamecube titles for download. Plus it comes with a regular controller that docks with the remote :) I also think PC games are much better because of modding them, mapping, etc. You cant get good control with a console controller (except fighting games).

Xbox 360=SUX
PS3=SUX
Revolution=PWN
PC=Pwn times 4!

This is a mocap based face poser application for XSI. It looks so real that it scares you.

I wish someone would actually play this map :( Its optimized very well. By yourself the average FPS is 100, and with about 20 bots its 85-45. I took advantage of every optimization technique here. If it was with players and no bots, the FPS would be constantly over 100. Some areas 170!

You know its funny you would mention custom materials and models. I actually just started learning XSI and creating custom textures. I think its kind of annoying to get the lighting and bump mapping right on textures. So far I have taken other reference textures from Valve and used their attributes on mine for practice. I plan for my next map (way in the future) to be all custom materials, and a few custom models.

BTW thanks for the honest opinions :)

Tycell: I would say de_Vostok would be another cool port from csXbox to Source. I dont think that will be my next map though.

Batch compilers. They are the same as Hammer. A compile time shouldnt take more than an hour if properly optimized. I suggest you optimize your map, or learn how. There are many techniques.

Thanx for the attention, BUT im in free look mode to get a better view of the map to show more in the picture. That is not visible on any part of the map you can get to normally.

I agree with you Captain P. It is a bit empty in certain spots, but I had to leave it so it matched the map layout of the original. Extra cover could change the gameplay. Thanks for the honest remarks. Perhaps I could find a way to make it more complex without changing gameplay.

I wouldnt rely on the auto nav mesh. Play test it with bots, find out the errors or places they go, or shouldnt go, and use the console to program their routes, and actions. It only takes 5 minutes, and stops their irrational movements, and walking into walls. :)

Yes I do agree that sometimes online tutorials are more interactive and helpful than books. Well, I dont really need it for mapping, just the modeling, coding, etc. This is kind of a broad introduction to all of it, so I should learn something. Thanks for all the feedback :)

Is it a good modding resource worth the money? Well, I already purchased it, but Im still wondering if anyone knows if its a good resource?

You really shouldnt base peoples typing online as a reflection of their grammar skills. When I do reports for my english professor I usually get A's on them. Buisness reports, anything professional. Something so quick and meaningless as online forums really shouldnt be proof read. Its just silly. I mean stupid obvious mistakes like: You arr no make no sens. Thats just bad english. Taking shortcuts while online on forums doesnt matter. Thats all im saying :)

I dont want to make anyone angry at me here at TWHL, so I apologize for anything rude I said. (When I said proper english on a forum is meaningless i meant to a small extent. If I wanted I could go through every post here and find run-ons, fragments, passive voice, improper tense usage, etc ETC! The little things dont really need to be addressed.) This all started because I dont like GOOD QUALITY maps being put down. No matter who made them.

Appropriate English on a forum on the internet is meaningless. I don?t bother wasting time on such a trivial matter. Its obvious your just being an ass, so STOP it. I have the right to have my own opinion as do you. The difference is that I never say someone is wrong and to shut up. Stop thinking your so high and mighty. What I say is true, and if you don?t agree then say so instead of shut up. That?s rude and you just being an ass thinking only your reasoning is correct. So please stop being an ass????

in glass looks like nodraw Post #171080
I cant even tell what the hell that picture is. Anyway, like you said, it SOMETIMES renders. Glass has to be on ONE face. The others NEED to be NODRAW. Thats the only way. :)
Posted 18 years ago2006-03-26 20:34:37 UTC
in glass looks like nodraw Post #171074
glass will NOT render correctly with anything but NODRAW on all sides. In other words, one brush with glass must only have one face with a glass texture applied. All other faces MUST be a NODRAW. Put another brush behind it if you want concrete.

in glass looks like nodraw Post #171072
There a number of reasons for this. Is it a func_breakable surf? If so only use the special func surf texture. Glass break A or somethin. You might be using a prop texture. remember glass only has to be textured on ONE side. The others are NODRAW. Does that help? Im not sure I understand your problem..

BTW you should use displacement on those hill things. :)

You probably have your tools settings messed up in hammer. I would go over all the directories and settings. Batch compiling is alot more succeptable to error than Hammer's compiler.

Use fastVis/rad. With fast vis/rad a big complete map should only take 10 minutes (depending on cpu speed) If it takes a obsurd amount of time, consider reading optimization tutorials.

No vis or rad at all? Try fast vis and fast rad, or normal. Its not going to work without vis and rad. Also try creating game and not using console to go to map. Use the selection box for choosing a level.
