As a fan of the Fallout series, I really disliked Fallout 4.

It simplified the game, took out the roleplaying, had a crap story, and the enemies all felt like bullet sponges.

Graphics were quite nice, though.

Office Complex

Just because Unforseen Consequences is the part of the game I wish I could skip every time I replay. Most of it is just sitting around in cut scenes waiting for the actual game to happen.

Meanwhile, Office Complex is a ton of fun to run through and doesn't hold you back or waste your time at all.

In case you're interested, Fallout works incredibly well in a tabletop setting.

Look up Fallout PnP or Fallout D20 if you want to get a good game going. I'm pretty sure there's a wiki and player's manual for it. And if you roleplay online on roll20.net, there are already Fallout presets based on how Fallout 1 & 2 play.

in help convert mp3 to HL wav Post #336818
Audacity is good to use, but tricky. It takes some fidgeting with the program, because Audacity assumes you have to be crazy/stupid to want a file with such little quality.

First things first, you have to set the bitrate of your individual track to 22kHz. Also, make it mono. I've found that if I'm taking a file that already exists and lowering the bitrate, it'll decrease the speed of the sound as a result. If you copy the track, delete it, make it 22kHz, and paste it, that seems to work. It should look like this.
User posted image
When you export it, you need to pick the file type: Other Uncompressed Files.
User posted image
Select Options and under header, choose a WAV file. For encoding, choose Unsigned 8-bit PCM.

Weird. For some reason, having Evolve (the server-making program, not the game) active was causing this problem. Deactivating it seemed to have solved it.

in Half-Life Texture Error Post #336769
Hey, I've been having a serious problem with Half-Life. I had this error once before about a year ago, and I'm not sure how I solved it back then.

The error is that every brush in the level is constantly switching between textures. It look like this.

This was caused when I switched from having the HD models on, to off. I've tried switching between them, but that doesn't seem to make a difference.

I've tried uninstalling the game, to no avail. I've tried uninstalling AND deleting the game's files completely off of my hard drive, to no avail. I've also tried updating my NVIDIA drivers, but nothing seems to be making a difference. I've also tried switching to the Half-Life beta and launching it, instead.

Has anyone ever had this problem before? If so, how did you fix it?

I've replaced track 2 with my own original song. Half-Life01.mp3 is the file name, located in the media folder.

If anyone was planning on using the original song, I can find one to change it to.

you know i never understood why big companies want to sue and/or threaten random fans for making a FREE game.
The problem is that with US trademark law, one of the rules of keeping a trademark is that you have to actively defend it. So when the legal team comes across a popular mod, they fear over whether or not this could jeopardize the trademark and throw cease & desists at it.

@Daubster

Ha, that video is probably Extra Credit's most heavily debated video.

Shock values =/= sadism. Making a map that recreates Columbine wouldn't be sadistic, unless, say, you made it a coop map where you shoot hostages.

in columbine_hs ~ My biggest project Post #335651
idk, saying you shouldn't make a map of Columbine is like saying you shouldn't make a map of any tragic location.

It's a historic place where a historic thing happened. The Columbine Massacre is a quite old tragedy now, and making a proper level of it might be interesting to explore. Like exploring a map that recreates the Titanic, or a concentration camp, or the World Trade Center during the attack.

If I recall correctly, someone actually made a VR game where you get to see the 9/11 attacks from the perspectives of the victims.

Anyways, I know I'm becoming "that guy" who says the edgy things and always plays devil's advocate, but I don't think there's much harm in recreating Columbine high school. Maybe if it happened yesterday, but the damn thing happened before I was even born, and I'm almost 18.

Crysis 2 really is a great game, I recently replayed it on hard mode. The only downside to the game is that it's really easy to sneak past every encounter using the cloak.

Shame that the series' story is a bit trash.

Imagine if you combined Dwarf Fortress, Plague Inc, Slime Rancher, Town of Salem, The Thing, System Shock, Space Engineers, Call of Cthulu, Colonial Marines, Aardwolf, DarkRP, and Stardew Valley. Oh wait, that already exists.

I really miss the classic turn-based combat JRPGs of the past. The classic Final Fantasy games nailed it, and it just hasn't been the same ever since. I guess my dream game would be if they made a turn-based game in the modern day, perfected it and added a lot more depth to it rather than having depth build up slowly over the course of the game, with great graphics, a story I can connect with.

It also wouldn't hurt to try this gamemode with some multiplayer, either. If you look at a game like Final Fantasy X, its robust combat system would be perfect for some PVP type of fun. This could work with a Dark Souls type system, where one of your random encounters is another player who has invaded you.

I was really excited for the Final Fantasy VII remake when they announced it, but now that they've showed that it's not revamping the turn-based combat, my interest has kind of waned. What a shame.

I don't think it is an entirely pointless comparison. Battlefield's large selling point is its large-scale warfare, an idea which Arma 3 simply takes into a different direction.

It's a bit clunky, yeah, but so is Deus Ex, the original Fallout 1 & 2, Space Station, etc.; once you get sucked into it, it won't matter.

When it comes to war games, I think this one beats out Battlefield by FAR. This game actually attempts to give a fairly realistic depiction of how firefights work, so a lot of the time spent in a firefight is locating enemies and finding a way to advance on them without being spotted. It only takes a couple shots to go down, and the helicopters fly like a flight simulator.

All in all, great fun game.
