Oh...yeah, you're probably right. In that case, you would have to stretch it, but that'd look like worse than just leaving a seem there, so nobody does it.

I personally leave all my seems alone on the corners. Nobody notices, really.

I only see one corner in that picture. Four brushes, but one corner. It looks like it'd be simple to do. It shouldn't require stretching.

Kind of a random topic, but I think .oXi Hosting really needs to be added to the links page. You can host any file you want on it, link directly to them for downloads (great for the Map Vault), it generates perfect image and thumbnail tags for these forums, it keeps your files indefinitely, has unlimited bandwidth, and it's extremely simple to use. It's like it was designed to be used by TWHLers.

Yeah... I'm not sure I really like the whole idea of being stuck in a room you can't get out of with five zombies and no ammo on you. In the original, it got to a point where it was just outright annoying, not even scary anymore. I just hope they threw some more ammo in. I'd rather have a tough enemy with a lot ammo on me than fairly weak enemies with no ammo at all.

Downloading it now.

MuzzleFlash, you know better than that!

Open the texture application tool, select one texture, and Alt+Right Click the one next to it and it'll match up perfectly.

Oh, so it's released is it. That's nice. I'll play it on Sunday I suppose. In the original one, I got up to the woods, and somehow lost interest in it. The combat and themes were a bit redundant, really.

There goes Dave again, flapping his e-mouth when he has no fucking idea what he's talking about.

Tom's hardware is obviously a site for hardware ENTHUSIASTS, not casual internet/email users who play Half-Life 2 every once in a while and occasionally pretend to be experts on what is the best computer for everybody. It is indeed not the site for maybe 85% of computer users, since at least that many don't know or care how their computer works.

But back on topic:

zeeba-G:
Luke, can you tell me everything I need to buy, like exactly what you have?
Why would you want that? Luke's computer is obviously going to be old by now, and he said himself that he put it together using some older parts he had. Not that it's bad, but just because he owns it doesn't mean it's the ideal setup for you. For example, his profile says he has a Pentium 4 processor. That's not something anyone would buy these days.

Everything but a hard drive, monitor, and case.

Not that I'd actually buy a PC with those particular parts. I mean, I put that list together in 15 minutes. I'm just showing it can easily be done.

Zeeba-G, when I said that, I wasn't seriously suggesting you go out and buy one like that. It is a trustworthy site (well, it's just as trustworthy as a newspaper ad), but it was really just to show that you could easily get a good computer for far less than 1000.

But yeah, you can find them. I found an XPS M1710 for a little over $600 once.

I only said buying used because honestly it's the least expensive way for him. He said himself he can't build, and I'm assuming he doesn't want to take the small amount of time to learn, so why pursue that any more? We KNOW building is better.

If you were to build, me, Luke, or a ton of other people here could tell you some parts to use, but I'd recommend doing it yourself. If anything goes wrong, you'll know what it is.

Well, 300 is considering that you bought it used, likely without a monitor, and it had good enough specs to be able to run HL2 well, but not really any more modern games.

Of course, if you have 1000 set aside, it would make things a whole lot easier, and you wouldn't have to worry about the future much. If you were building a new computer, I would recommend your budget be somewhere between 600 and 1000, but since you're buying it's probably going to end up being right around 1000. If you're buying new, you really don't want to get anything dated.

1000 walnuts? gg on currency there.
well you could be talking pounds, euros, ruples...
Not everyone here uses US dollars.
His profile says he lives in Texas.

You should be able to build, maybe even buy, a computer capable of running Half-Life 2 very smoothly for about 500 dollars these days. Less, depending on how much stuff you can salvage from your current machine/s. Personally, I could find one on my local Craigslist for about 300 that would handle it fine.

I'm just saying that watching this anime is not a waste of time.
For you.

I've seen these "non-child" anime shows before, and none of them have interested me. I'm not simply referring to the mass-produced crap that you see on WB Kids, I'm talking about EVERY PIECE OF ANIME I've seen so far, with the sole exception of Akira, which in my opinion is an amazing movie.

Also, Habboi, you've got to know what you're doing by posting a link to that (very old) video in this thread. And Blitzkrieg, I wouldn't normally say something like this, but you are a huge faggot for saying that it's a good representation of Americans as a whole. Good job perpetuating ridiculous stereotypes.

I have never had any interest in these shows. Akira is the only piece of anime that I've thought was any good. I've seen a bunch of this stuff, so I know from personal experience that I dislike the genre as a whole. The corny animation, the trying-too-hard-to-be-deep storylines, the lame diologue, the meaningless symbolism, poor or nonexistent translations, and the utterly ridiculous facial expressions/grunts that are used in place of actual words have all helped to turn me away from it. It obviously makes sense to the Japanese, but Japanese I am not.

Actually, BSPTwoMap does it a little different, hollowing out all the brushes. The annoying thing is, this was actually intentionally implemented as a way to keep people from accurately decompiling maps. Otherwise, you might have been able to pull it off.

Not sure about the texture thing though...that's really strange, and I don't think I'd call it normal. It sounds almost like you have "3D Filled Polygons" turned on in your view menu.

MuzzleFlash, that's why you check the "not solid" flag. ;)

Still though, if this is CS1.6, the only entity available for placing models is cycler_sprite. They removed cycler and all the others.

in how can you insert a model? Post #237117
I personally think that monster_generic works better. I've actually had cycler_sprite crash Hammer when I've tried to use models with it. There are other entities that allow you to place models too, but monster_generic seems to work for every situation. The only downside is that it isn't available in Counter-Strike, so you'll have to use a cycler_sprite for that.

Of course, it's totally acceptable to have your mod be heavily inspired by themes from other media, but using them directly is not... in my opinion.

Also, yeah, I think considering the scope of this project and your desire to have destructible worlds, it would be far better suited to Source. Actually, it would thrive on it.

Damn, I was editing. To continue where my last sentence stopped:

...Seriously, get your own content. This doesn't apply when you're expanding upon the universe of the original game, like many Half-Life mods do, but otherwise I think it's boring. Leave the copyrighted crap to the game studios that make official games.

I think the best type of mod is the one where you've actually designed the environments and characters within it on your own.

I don't care what engine it's on, I don't think I'd play it. It sounds cheesy to me. Actually, whenever I hear about non-original characters or themes (superheroes, cartoon show characters, places/people from movies or other games) being used in mods, it just turns me off.

Nah, it's just the reality of any brush based entity. It's not going to process light the same way as world brushes, so it's never going to look exactly the same. Sucks, doesn't it?

You could try using the ZHLT lightflags to block light, but that still doesn't create identical lighting.

What? What other doors? What buttons? How do you expect anybody to know what you're talking about?

If you just want your door to stay open indefinitely, all you need to do is type "-1" in the "delay before close" field, without the quotes. If you want to be able to open and close it over and over again on command with a button, just turn the door's "toggle" flag on.
