Well, I resized the textures.. there no longer as clear, but I thought it would be alot worse. So, I compiled it, and opened it in Jeds.. but I was surprised what I saw:

I'm hoping for a plugin for another program like blender, 3DS Max.. or other.. that will allow it to be compiled into a Half-Life model. :

Hello, I made a truck in which I'm using a high resolution skin for.. I found images of the same truck online, took the pictures, and made them all into one skin.. side, top, front, and back views.. However, now the texture size is 1800x1400. So, I know I'm going to have to remap it, and make the texture smaller, but I don't want to loose the detail for the model. Whats the largest sized skin HL1 models can have?

I'm hoping its maybe 1024x1024, not 512x512 :

I suggest getting a batch compiler from here.. a setup tutorial is also included:
HLCCv1.4
http://www.snarkpit.net/editing.php?page=files&game=HL&type=utilities

This does'nt require you to add wads.. just click the option, and it includes all the textures.

Yeah, I know what you mean... when I first made the model, I was'nt thinking about putting it into half-life.. ...perhaps I'll reduce them later on. At the moment, most of the UV-mapping is done for the boat.. more pics will be up tomorrow.. However, I'm going to need some help animating.. I got a simple idle animation for the antennas, but it pauses my pc when it hits a certain frame.. doesn't matter if its in Milkshape, HLMV, or in half-life.. it's kinda wierd, I'll upload the part once it's complete. :

so, that means, I'll have to wait a month, for another compo. Why did HL2 have to come out with such wicked graphics. Why can't my PC handle... just why..

I SAY 2 COMPOS AT ONCE! : or at least start the HL2 one 2 weeks after the HL1. (Which would be next week)

This way a new halflife 1 compo can start 2 weeks after it is closed.
(HL2, and HL1 Closing would close on the same date)
(Giving judges 2 weeks to judge and come up with the results.)

When you occasionally have a really bad day, and you just need to take
it out on someone, don't take it out on someone you know, take it out on
someone you don't know.

I was sitting at my desk when I remembered a phone call I'd forgotten to
make. I found the number and dialed it. A man answered, saying "Hello."

I politely said, "This is Mike. Could I please speak with Robyn
Carter?"

Suddenly a manic voice yelled out in my ear "Get the right f**ing
number!" and the phone was slammed down on me.

I couldn't believe that anyone could be so rude. When I tracked down
Robyn's correct number to call her, I found that I had accidentally
transposed the last two digits.

After hanging up with her, I decided to call the 'wrong' number again.
When the same guy answered the phone, I yelled "You're an asshole!" and hung up. I wrote his number down with the word 'asshole' next to it, and put it in my desk drawer.

Every couple of weeks, when I was paying bills or had a really bad day,
I'd call him up and yell, "You're an asshole!"

It always cheered me up.

When Caller ID was introduced, I thought my therapeutic "asshole
calling" would have to stop.

So, I called his number and said, "Hi, this is John Smith from the
Verizon. I'm calling to see if you're familiar with our Caller ID
Program?"

He yelled "NO!" and slammed down the phone.
I quickly called him back and said, "That's because you're an asshole!"

Later on within the week:
I was at the store, getting ready to pull into a parking spot when
Some guy in a black BMW cut me off and pulled into the spot I had
patiently waited for. I hit the horn and yelled that I'd been waiting
for that spot, but the idiot ignored me. I noticed a "For Sale" sign in
his back window which included his phone number, so I wrote down the
number.

A couple of days later, right after calling the first asshole (I had his
number on speed dial lol) I thought that I'd better call the BMW asshole,
too.

I said, "Is this the man with the black BMW for sale?"
"Yes, it is", he said.
"Can you tell me where I can see it?" I asked.
"Yes, I live at 34 Mowbray Blvd, in Vaucluse. It's a yellow house, and
the car's parked right out in front."
"What's your name?" I asked.
"My name is Don Hansen," he said.
"When's a good time to catch you, Don?"
"I'm home every evening after five."
"Listen, Don, can I tell you something?"
"Yes?"
"Don, you're an asshole!" Then I hung up, and added his number to my speed dial, too.

Now, when I had a problem, I had two assholes to call. Then I came up
with an idea. I called Asshole #1.

"Hello."
"You're an asshole!" (But I didn't hang up.)
"Are you still there?" he asked.
"Yeah," I said.
"Stop calling me," he screamed.
"Make me," I said.
"Who are you?" he asked.
"My name is Don Hansen."
"Yeah? Where do you live?"
"Asshole, I live at 34 Mowbray Blvd, Vaucluse, a yellow house, with my
black Beamer parked in front."

He said, "I'm coming over right now, Don. And you had better start
saying your prayers."

I said, "Yeah, like I'm really scared, asshole," and hung up.

Then I called Asshole #2.
"Hello?" he said.
"Hello, asshole," I said.
He yelled, "If I ever find out who you are..."
"You'll what?" I said.
"I'll kick your ass," he exclaimed.
I answered, "Well, asshole, here's your chance. I'm coming over right now."

Then I hung up and immediately called the police, saying that I lived at
34 Mowbray Blvd, Vaucluse, and that I was on my way over there to kill
my gay lover.

Then I called Channel 9 News about the gang war going down in mowbray Blvd, Vaucluse.

I quickly got into my car and headed over to Mowbray. I got there just
in time to watch two assholes beating the crap out of each other in
front of six cop cars, an overhead police helicopter and a news crew.

NOW I feel much better.
Anger management really works... :D

I think those who think they are that limited is because they have a limited imagination. I started mapping the moment the compo opened, and quite frankly, I don't feel limited whatsoever. The only thing I can't do is change the layout, or structure.. and so far it's looking amazing. Although it lags a bit, because of the sparks, and other sprites I'm using, and the amount of detail.. I'm hoping to familiarize myself with the hint brush. :)

and so far.. its looking great! :D But don't worry, the structure will still be there. ;)

Oh, and PengiunBoy, texture is allowed to be changed, thats what gives us our leverage... It's a map from base.

umm.. I think you guys missed the concept.. If I was to use that ZL, you know, tie it to a func_rot, and set it to addictive.. then the white would appear bright, and the black would be invisible... which would look nothing like a shadow.

What do you guys think of this idea?

What if I was to make another Render Mode. This new render mode would be the direct opposite of 'Addictive' Another words...
The addictive option makes darker areas of the texture more transparent, while the lighter areas of the texture are more bright. (example would be glow sprites..) So, yea, make it so the lighter areas of the texture becomes transparent.. and darker areas, visible.

The reason this would be cool is because you could make custom shadows, add dimension to textures, and much more.
Heres an example:
User posted image
Now, the white (brighter) areas would be the most transparent areas.. darker areas.. would be most visible.. tied to a function_rot, we would now have a really real looking fan shadow!
