If you're using a custom sound, you may not have put a cue point in it. Download Goldwave, it can insert a cuepoint easily (which is necessary for all looping sounds).

Download a program called VTFEdit. You can import images (bmp/jpg/tga etc) and simply save them as vtf files. It's so easy it's criminal. You can also open, create and edit the vmf files that Source materials need.

But at the hardened and veteran skill levels it's just.. guh, not worth spending time on.
I did that and it really ruined it for me.

There are lots of moments where enemies will constantly attack until you push through and it gets very tiresome. The village level where you need to push your way down hill from the barn is one example, horrible experience that.

The CoD games have been continually disappointing to me, there's been little innovation over all the titles. If you look past CoD4's cinematics/presentation, it's still the same flawed gameplay.

Though the Ghillie missions was the biggest change i've ever seen in a CoD game, i'd pay a small fee for just those two levels. I won't say anything about the multiplayer since I won't be trying it.

It's got one of the best single player stories i've seen recently.
Actually it's got quite a basic story, it's a war shooter afterall. It's just highly cinematic so it appears to have more depth. Bioshock's story is a lot more inventive and unique, but the game is too drawn out so you sort of lose interest towards the end. They're both alright games, but I don't see them as being anything special.

You may like it or it may be a sucky idea but I'll just put it out there.
It's sucky, I don't like it.

Nah, it's not a bad idea, but it's basically already covered with the new projects system. ;)

Here's what Penguinboy had to say about them:
A project is a mod, a program, a map if you want, a drawing, anything you want! But, projects are generally limited to mods and programs such as my Twister or muzz's Compilator.

Each Project gets its own private forum for team members, their own news reel, and maybe even their own shoutbox (replaces current one), or a public forum. But I want to keep public forums out if I possibly can. Projects will get limited (if any) storage space to upload screenshots (probably will just link to imageshack).

There will be a 'Project quick news' news update on the right of the main page, and a bigger version on the main project page. This is much like the news feed thingie on sites such as Facebook ("Twister has uploaded 3 screenshots","Half-Life: Hostage Situation has posted 1 news update","6D has provided 2 new downloads", etc).

VTFEdit will do most of what you need. It's a simple matter of opening your image, saving it as a vtf, then writing (or editing an existing) and saving your vmf file. I don't think it can get much easier.

But hey, if Muzzleflash feels like proving me wrong.. :glad:

There won't be any animated smileys in TWHL3, because:

a) They just add to the amount that needs to load.
b) They can be an eyesore.
b) All the smileys will eventually be updated/redrawn into transparent png's, obviously lacking the ability to be animated.

TJB: Not sure of the exact changes to the search function, i'll check with Pb.

Erty: Highly doubt it will happen, flash pop-ups/previews add extra wait to people with slower internet and sometimes prohibit viewing the picture until it's 100% loaded. They're just a general pain in the ass.

probably should not be deleted. Some complex rotating objects entities need
their origins outside the map. To deal with these, just enclose the origin
brush with a solid world brush
There's your problem. Entities can't be placed outside the map in the 'void'. Absolutely everything needs to be, in some way, enclosed by brushes for a compile to go smoothly.

We can probably rearrange it.. somehow.

I'm not too sure what's happening with the smilies and the impending release of TWHL3, the original plan was to have them all redone as sexy AA'd .png's, but that would create problems with IE users. Probably something for later down the track.

Depends on the entity, I suppose. It may decide not to do it if it's blocked, or create the effect regardless. Another problem is whether or not the smoke looks the way he wants, I remember it being quite thick.

I'm not entirely sure that's possible using your method, the Half-life engine being as limited as it is.

But, I'm fairly sure there's an entity that generates a pillar of black smoke, I've just forgotten what it's called. I think it's the cycler_wreckage entity, but it might also generate a bit of fire at the bottom.

It's nothing more then a harmless, humerous way to close the threads. But if you don't find it funny, ignore it. A mention is fine, but a whole conversation going off topic isn't.

srry: you're hardly one to comment on what's good and what's bad for TWHL, you've brought your own share of newbie bashing and /b/ references here in the (recent) past.

Like it or not, things are changing for TWHL in preparation for TWHL3. Certain people aren't going to get away with the level of crap they use to. If we want this site to be respectable, we need to act respectable. That isn't to say we can't have fun, either.

This is the last I want to hear about the bloody truck of fail in this thread. halflife_genius made a good thread here, it's other people (not a picture) that went and ruined it.
