I think displacements are flexible enough as it is. The only thing I would ask for is more subdivision options, really.

8 players was $104. 10 players was $131.
If you guys insist on 8 then we can run with it. I just feel that 9 players had the most reasonable price for the slots.

Back, finally.
Thanks for the donations!!

Here's the plan: Going against what I said earlier (I know), I'm going to get a 9 player, 6 month server. I still plan on owning this thing for a full year, but 6 months at a time gives more room for changes than all at once (and it only saves $4).
That will run an initial $118.95. I'll pay the $51.95 that I would have payed for an 8 player, 12 month server. This means that I only need $67 from the community. We're already at $25, thanks to Atom and Tetsu0 :)

I we'll save money by doing a low player count for six months. If 9 players tusn out to be too little, we can raise the player count for the next 6 months and save money. Or if it turns out to be too many, then we only pay for 6 months of too many players, and lower it to 8 for the next 6 months.

Goal: $118.95
Current donations: $76.95

I'm sending another PM to Reafer to fix the donation link. Unfortantely, I have to go with the second form I posted instead of a straightforward donation form.

Also: AMXX will be installed on this server. Should go without saying, but I'm saying anyway.

Before I go, this form works for sending money, but it's not as simple and it makes you create a temporary account when you pay.

HLDM then? All right, then how many players? I'll chip in my 25% as soon as I know how many players you guys want.
Also, donation button hurr:

You can donate as little or as much, there's no fixed amount. And if you want to donate, but don't have a card, you can always try paying your parents and asking them to donate on your behalf :glad:

I've asked Reafer to edit my first post with the same button.

Goal: $? <- will be the total cost once I know how many players to have
Current donations: $0 <- total donations + my 25%

Honestly, I'd probably have to say worse. Source has a weird way of coping with lag. It causes lots of "twitching", and it's noticable at around 150 and up for me.

Also, I'm not going to trust gameservers.com. I've read some bad things about their reliability and server power after looking into them.

Should have posted this earlier before Reafer ninja'd me.
Gamerservers.com rents out server for much cheaper than Nuclear Fallout, but they don't host older games, and I have no experience with them. At face value, we can get a 12 player HL2DM server for $152.49.

All right here's the deal. As far as I know, every TWHL server in the past has been dedicated, and therefore prone to many problems. We've never had a real "server".

I am willing to start an 8, 10, or 12 player HLDM or HL2DM server, hosted by Nuclear Fallout. I co-owned a server with some friends for almost 5 years, and I will say that Nuclear Fallout's service is fantastic.
At minimum, I'd like said server to be ours for 12 months. That's right, we'll have a strong, reliable server for a full year at least. Now, we can go 6 months, but I'd really like to take the full year.

This is the list of server location options: https://www.nfoservers.com/networklocations.php
Pick the location that your best ping is in, and that will determine where we host. Unfortunately for some of you, it has to be hosted in the US.
Now here's what I need from you: donations to get things kicked off, of course. There will be one big payment in the beginning for the entire 12 months (15% discount for paying at once). I will pay 25% of the cost each year (if we go more than a year in the future), and will ask the rest of TWHL to pay the rest. Every bit helps!
Donations will be through Paypal. I will set up a new Paypal account for specifically for paying Nuclear Fallout for our server. To donate, you will simply send money [won't matter what currency] to TWHL's Paypal account. You won't even need a Paypal account to donate, if you don't have one.
I'll post the total amount of USD in the account when new donations come in so that we don't overdonate(probably won't be a problem, if you know what I mean)
*This account will not be used for any kind of personal expenses; only for paying for a TWHL server.

Here's the options I liked best...
-8 player HLDM = 203.90 USD (I pay $51.90, TWHL pays $152.00, average of 6.08USD assuming 25 donations)
-10 player HLDM = 254.90 USD (I pay $64.90, TWHL pays $190.00, 7.60USD average)
-12 player HLDM = 305.90 USD (I pay $76.90, TWHL pays $229.00, 9.16USD average)
-8 player HL2DM = 302.84 USD (I pay 75.84, TWHL pays $227, 9.08USD average)
-10 player HL2DM = 378.52 USD (I pay $93.52, TWHL pays 285, 11.40 average)
...but if you'd like to suggest something else, click here and suggest your own server setup. All the prices above are based on an interNAP server.

Because there was nowhere else to put this: I have a personal ftp that I used to host server files for my old CS server. I will use this same ftp for the TWHL server. This means we will get "fast downloads" and hosting custom maps will be no problem.
Edit: Here's a donation button-

It offers to save passwords, but it's bugged or simply not tied to the browser. When I log into the same website from a different browser, my password is wiped from Chrome.

The magic wand is an autofiller that Opera comes with, a lot like Roboform. You can specify different information like usernames, full names, phone numbers, passwords, etc. It can be used to quickly fill out forms or register on websites, but mostly it's just a more reliable method than FF's or Chrome's of storing passwords.

There's probably something like it for FF, but the magic wand is one of the bigger reasons why I stick to Opera. Though if Chrome would remember my damn passwords I'd probably switch to it.

I have to create a volumetric fog so that when people fall in they die and the body is hid. So that it looks neater and also makes the death cam more appealing.
Then do that texture along with wall, but put an opaque, orange illusionary near the bottom. It will blend in with the bottom of the fading texture, and the body will fall under it.
By the way, I hope all those layered brushes are one entity. If each brush is a single entity, it's a big waste.

You should use one texture along the wall that fades from black to orange instead of stacking brushes like that. It would look a lot better.

Poor guy. his music was allright in my opinion. Terrible way to go.
I don't know about that. Cardiac arrest is pretty good compared to how most celebrities seem to go.
Oddly, he thought it was okay to share a bed with a kid even when you're unrelated.
Parents do this with their kids all the time, and there isn't anything sexual about it. Really nothing should change if it's another kid, but for some reason the American society (at least) is increasingly convinced that any kind of act of affection toward someone unrelated to you is sexual.

I can't say that I'm really sad to hear that he died. Like others have said, his prime had long since passed. After that, he was living as "just another guy" (take that term with a grain of salt).

Now, whether or not some of you liked his music, you at least have to acknowledge what he did for music and dancing.
There's a legacy there.

Edit: Looks like that's already been said many more times than I thought.
