Thanks, but you're probably right Archie. Setting up the animation that way was way easier than diagonally because everything was in the native X direction.
My goal is to import into the UDK and futz with the animation blending and such. I cant find any documentation so im gonna try to make my own.

Thanks guys!
Progress wil be made tomorrow, my day is pretty full as of now.
Thats pretty awesome. But i bet a fully made model is much harder to animate?
Not necessarily- so long as its a rigid model, all you do is link the mesh to the bones. It's when you have bone weights and a more complex, non-rigid model is when it gets tough.

I remember i met a Londoner in Jamaica who introdiced me to Akala. He was singing about how america's perception of england is so skewed. (Welcome to England) Was really deep but i never truly appreciated him - until now.
Im gonna go listen to that song again.

So i'm teaching myself how to model, animate, and export into unreal.

I know my way around 3ds Max's modelling and texturing tools (definite Novice, but i can manage) And i'm just using the help files and whatever things i can find on the internet to help me along the way.

Anyone have any tips and tricks or know of any nice tutorial websites for me to reference?

My first project is to get a quadraped walking a straight line.
It consists of a sphere for a body, and 4 legs composed of 2 pyramids.
I figure if i keep the mesh simple, the animation and rigging aspects will be easier as well.

Here's my thought process.. if i start with a simple mesh and can rig and animate and get it into unreal, then i can start with more complicated meshs. The more i do this, the better i get and when i actually have a decent model, this shouldn't be brand new to me, and SHOULD go relatively smoothly.

If anyone's got 2 cents i'd love to hear them, if not.. here's step one:
User posted image
EDIT 1 -
Thanks to the Help files, i have created a IK Limb for one of the legs, have assigned the objects to the bones, and have made a smooth walking animation.
Now to re-do that for the other 3 legs =]

This is SERIOUSLY a lot easier to figure out than i thought it was going to be. I finally have the time and motivation to devote to it!

EDIT 2 - Figured out how to animate, and export an AVI render all by my onsey. This is wonderful
I think that's progress enough for a day.

Sort of a POV as well..

I do agree with don, we should either NOT code anything, or do it sparingly. The source source code is a pain in the ass

good call on the edit capt, even though i share the same thoughts.
i know everyone has their own projects, which is why this is just a brainstorming session.
getting ideas out there until we collectively agree on a path to take.
once we know which direction we want to go, we can start with a basic story, gameplay ideas etc etc

I always wanted to do something along the lines of an RPG
You still have your weapons, but as you use them more you become more proficient with them. - Accuracy improves, reload time decreases, damage increases slightly etc etc.

I also think something withn the HL universe is a fantastic idea.
Has anyone done anything with the 7hour war?

Striker mentioned in another thread, that we should all collaborate on a giant community project. I think this is an incredible idea.
So How about we start brainstorming a bit?
And by using the awesome power of dropbox and google documents and other free could-based organizational tools, we can pull it off.

So i think one this is for certain, this will be a source-based endeavor. Lets face it, Goldsource is old. We all love it, we all learned on it, but even source is considered dated technology now and we can't keep ourselves so far in the past.

We have some incredibly talented people here and i KNOW that if we can keep this organized, and don't lose sight of the project scope, we can pop out a good mod/game in under a year.

I'm a project manager at work so i know some management tools and project-outlining techniques that keep stuff on track, on scope, and on time.

So without further ado, let's brainstorm. :hammer:

I'm sorry for your loss and I know your pain TMA. I have lost many pets myself.
I hope you get another kitty, not as a replacement- pets can never be replaced- but kitties are awesome and everyone should have one.

in Dimensions in Source Post #305034
Personally, I use 8 unit walls. The doors are 2 units so I make a 4 unit jam(trim) around them and it gives it a nice look. Plus if you take a look at the window prop_static models, they fit perfectly into 8-unit walls.

Ultimately though it comes down to the situation and material Choice. Concrete walls or cinder
Block walls would most likely be 16 unit thick exterior walls while wood or plaster would be the thinner, interior, 8-unit walls.

For map cleanliness, stick with the base 2 grid. 2,4,8,16,32 etc.
A 6-unit wall would look quite odd in the grid.

I think there should be a section in the vault with the eligible MOTM maps listed.
Should probably be automatic, updated every month, and not include example or unfinished stuff, right?
We should market the MOTM stuff a bit more i think.
