in The Chasers Motorcade Stunt Post #233615
For those of you who aren't aware, the Chasers gang (from Aussie show The Chasers War on Everything) recently attempted a motorcade stunt at APEC Australia, currently being held in Sydney. They reportedly got within 10 metres of the location George Bush is staying before they were detained and later charged.

Julian Morrow and Chas Licciardello (two of the main stars), as well as 9 extras now face charges of breaching a restricted zone and are due in Court some time in October.

http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2007/09/06/2026372.htm

There is a bit of a stink over this currently due mainly to the fact that they managed to break through the multi-million dollar Apec security and polls are now running wild about whether this was brilliance, or sheer stupidity.

So what do you think? I personally think they did a great thing, if all it takes to breach security is 3 cars disguised as a Canadian Motorcade and a joke ID badge, than it's saying a lot about the security. ;D

They managed to get through 2 security checkpoints before they were arrested after turning around and practically giving themselfs up (one was even dressed as Osama Bin Laden, just to add to the humiliation). Can't wait to see what's on the show next week, go Chasers!

The ironic thing is, my new camera's standard 18-55mm lens didn't have the zoom power to get a decent sized, focused shot of said lunar eclipse last night. :P

Couldn't see it all that clear from here anyway. But oh boy, when I get a nice 70-300mm lens..

Back on the topic of BioShock, i'm about 3 and a half hours in, and have pretty much been through a shitstorm of Big Daddies and Splicers. I'm not even bored of the enemy-types either, they keep amping up the threat level as you aquire new plasmids and upgrades (which also vary the battles as you go). I've seen at least 4 different types of Splicers, and two different types of Big Daddies and i'm definately not bored of duking it out with them.

The introduction of new weapons is well timed too, always appearing around about the time you need them. Also, the Little Sister/Big Daddy mechanics work great, I won't spoil anything but a degree of balance and decision making is involved that really adds to the gameplay. Basically, the game is great fun despite it's minor problems that people have picked up on. The physics for one thing are ocassionally pretty bad, but they aren't all that important.

It doesn't really bother me at all. Obviously if they went ridiculous with the pricing it'd be a major screwover, but the fact that it's still well priced, and you're getting 3 new games is enough for me, the two older games are practically free.

Now I know it is bad IN PRINCIPLE, but honestly it's worth maybe a small grumble - not major whining about said principles and bad tactics. Seriously, they're a company doing what all companies do.

That's why TF2 is gonna be complete ownage. Awesome graphics and awesome game play.

My pants will explode.
Likewise. After seeing the new Meet the Soldier video i'm more excited than ever.

I actually get a bit of a Doom 3 vibe when playing the Bioshock demo, but it doesn't bother me as I actually enjoyed most of Doom 3. The graphics are pretty plasticy, but I suppose it fits the stylised look. That's why i'm glad other Unreal 3 engine games (like GoW) use bump-mapping to a minimum effect. Just because the technology exists, doesn't mean it should be used absolutely everywhere.

The gameplay was fun, the demo is only so long so I can't complain about it in the long-run. Also, for a game that boasts about amazing water effects, I find the water kind of unimpressive, to be honest.

Ideally Valve should move away from bsp's altogether, they're very dated and simply a bitch for when it comes to large-scale maps. If you want more reason just ask Ant. ;)

But like I said, Valve are too stuck in the past, real-time lighting and a new, improved map format are about as likely as Gabe losing 100 kg on the Subway diet.

Valve are stuck way too far back in the past to consider entirely real-time lighting. I doubt we'll be seeing anything like it in the Source engine.. at least not in it's current state. Sometime later when it's given a MAJOR overhaul, or an all-new, proper next-gen engine is (hopefully) made.

For situations like that, i've always done it like so:

Not too sure if dramatically increases performance, but it definately looks the neatest and minimises enough brushwork.

Hrmm, i'm not a fan of your comics myself, Tosse. The art style is nice enough, far from perfect - but it's there. And I actually agree with Trapt about the dialogue/font, I never found Maggot Man (that it?) funny, and I don't find this funny, but that's just me. A nicer font would give it a big boost, imo.

I'm not even going to say anything about the arrogance issue. Enough banter, other people enjoy it and who are we to rain on your parade?

Along with the pictures I posted in the post-your-pics thread, I tried my hand at a night-time HDR shot, the exposure was quite a bit off, there wasn't all that much cloud to look at, and the wind caused a bit of blur, but i'm happy with how my first HDR shot turned out simply because it worked.
