Great idea, but I totally disagree with your design scheme, especially if you're targetting an older audience. I'd say go for something a little more professional, rather than spew the fact that you love Half-Life.
If this site is to be read by parents of all ages, I would cater to them by creating an easy on the eyes, professional and sleek looking site. I would also work hard on the layout and functionality of the site, to ensure that it's easy to use and easy to read.

Erm, the nVidia program will work for all cards. It's a plugin for Photoshop...
Yeah, I get that issue too. It depends on the VM used. I believe HL had the same bug, which was reportedly fixed by HLFix (according to Tommy's site). Not sure why it does that, it's a pain in the ass.

System Restore is utterly useless, because it restores virii as well. Just back up the important stuff to DVD/CD.

Unbreakable: Hosting those files would kinda put us into legal constraints. While the likelihood of Valve actually finding them and taking legal action is low, I doubt that it'd be wise to have 'em up in the first place, considering we don't own the server.

Because the background is just an image. It's the same with HL2 for me: the background loads instantly, but I have to wait a couple of seconds for the menu to pop up.

Currently, afaik, bumpmapping plugins exist only for PS (which can be used with Paint Shop Pro with varying success) and the GIMP.
The SDK is working fine for me as well, which is a welcome change after the bug that a bunch of ATI users had to endure for months.
