Hey my bro. came up with a great idea that works. I just placed a trigger_teleport right where I start in the 2nd map and teleport to where I want to start.

I used to get my skies from the wadfather but they now host all of their downloads at fileplanet so its not free anymore. Does anyone know of any good sites to get skies for free?

Hey, my level change works now but in the second map that loads, the player is off to the side of the map and not facing the correct direction. How do I fix this?

I placed a trigger_changelevel into my map. When the player enters the region, the new map loads but the player is floating in the sky and dead. Some times it doesn't work at all and kicks me out of half life. Am I forgetting to do something? All I did was create a trigger_changelevel out of a brush and typed in the map name to change to.

I download a free version of goldwave. Than in my comp with gold w. open up the sound, add cue points to the beginning and end of the song or sound, next trim-if you want to delete part of the sound and than save it as "name" 16 bit mono into your sound folder. Than In hl your sound will play looped. If you want it to only play once, have a mm trigger it twice to start it and turnn it off.

Ok I have 4 days left because im working allday today and going campin on the 18th. I got a lot done but I have a huge ammount left to do in those 4 days, one of them being a college day. Ill have to shorten up the final section of my mod so that I can finish. Plus I still have to make a splash screen and find a place to host the map...

My entrys awesome so far. I didn't know hammer and gold could handle so much. My old computer couldn't handle 1/2 of whats in my map. By the way, Penguinboy and Ant, do yall have pretty good computers because It might take one to play my map with out lag.

Just make a rain texture named scroll rain with a black background and set its rendermode to additive and ammount whatever.

Now I have a question. My map is very complex but I have a lot to go. When I test it says max_leaf_faces and than doesn't work. If I turn a few things into entities so they don't carve other brushes, will this give me enough more memory to put a lot more into the map?

lol ive put like atleast 40-50 hours into my map and am only done with one part. I still have a "lot" to go. Its really kool so far thow and I got the hardest part done.

Ok I need to create a texture that fades from a light. The same effect seen in jaguar's latest map. And billions of others. I tried by making a texture that starts out all color and fades to black with the spray paint tool and made a func_illusionary rendermode additive fx_ammount 100 but it looked like crap. I know you don't use rendermode texture because the ends of the light beams are always completely invisible. How Do I make a fading texture that fades to a completely invisible end and looks good?

That vote button on the map page next to what game its for should be removed. I accidently clicked it and it sayed I voted the map for motm. Plus If I vere to rate a map I would click on the vote button thinking it vould allow me to rate it.

I only started 2 1/2 days ago and already put around 15 hours into it. Right now and tomorrow I have to go to work for nine hours so im not going to get in much this weekend but ill finish. That is by not doing any homework! :glad:

Ok im entering for sure now. Ill have to map straight the next few days. My map will become very complex thow so I am not sure if I will be able to make the entire area I chose. If it is way too complex, will it be ok if it is just a part of a game for example a vehicle obviously from the game?

Hey my entities arent showin up in hammer. Where do you put the fgd? I put it with my compile tools and a few other places but it won't work.

Does any one know if you can make your own sounds for fruity loops. Like can I record a note from my guitar and convert it to be usable as a note in fl? And is there any other better sound programs out there to make beats for cheap? Fl seams like the best for the money but prices of sounds is retarded. Like 30 bux for a guitar sound.

Well it is pretty detailed so far because of some terrain and stairs and stuff. Solids-389, faces-2176.

my comps a dell dual core @ 2.00GHz

The room is a pretty big outside area with water and terrain surrounded by architecture. Theres a pretty simple bridge going over the water and theres a few staircases.

Im making my first map in source and its pretty detailed but im only a few days into it and it is only one area. When I hit f9 in hammer to check it out it takes 20 to 30 minutes to compile. This is freakin rediculous, does it take this long for anyone else to compile their maps? My computer isn't the problem. Is there a faster way to compile or might I be doing something wrong? :confused:

Ok I put the "vmt" file in my materials folder for hl2 and in hammer I can now see the texture named brickstest1. The only problem is that it is purple and black checkers instead of the texture. I also tried putting a TGA file and VTF file of the texture in the materials folder but it still shows as checkers. Did I do anything wrong?

Well I downloaded it and have been messin with it for an hour but can't get textures to work in hl2. Do I convert a texture into a vtf and than in hammer's tools, options, materials and add material or wad? If so, ive tryed but cannot find my newly vtf. file. I downloaded Source Sdk. Before you click on hammer lo load it, you select which game you want to map for. Originally the only ones I could see were portal, teamfortress, and hl2 episode 2. In hammer I set up a new game configuration for hl2 and named it "hl2". I set up all of the game configurations correctly and build programs. Now when I load source sdk, I am able to select hl2 at the bottom and than click hammer. When i click new and it loads up and the 3 graphs and 1 camera screen load up if I click on any of the graphs or do any function in hammer it causes an error and kicks me out. I am pretty sure I have all of the game config.s set up right and everything, is there anything special I may need to do? ...It was working once but in the camera view in hammer I wasn't able to view 3dtextured polygons. Hammer works fine when I use it for portal and the other mods.

everytime I compile I have to wate for the valve loading scenes with the valve on the guys head and the powered by source screen and than some more loading. Can I avoid this, and why the heck do I have to open up hammer through steam?

Use mulisources. Have each button target its own multisource which targets the door. When the buttons are turned off it should close the doors. Or maybe you should mess with the time delay before your buttons are reset. It might be too long to get what you want to work.

yea I just played a minIMU'S mini mod and I remember actually noticing a shadow being casted from his brush made tree. They do make a dif. "The best way ive seen shadows made is when you actually make the shadow part of the texture you place on the ground by whatever casts it." A good example is on the counterstrike map with the castle. The shadow is on that weird compass sun dial thing in one of the bombsites.

Nope, there in my valve folder. And models in model folder. Well one website said some models may not mask in older mods and im using an old version of hl1.

Cool their working now, except they aren't masked. Black is where it should be masked. Ive tryed all render modes but they don't change it except additive but than the tree glows. Btw env_sprite works for original hl models, just makes them illusionary.

None of these models work for me. I put the models in my model folder. Than in hammer I created an env_sprite with sprite name as the models the model .mdl. Than when I x out the sprite's property menue an error pops up and Hammer exits out. Am I doing something wrong?
