Where'd you get the mask?
It's Boone who's wearing it - not me :3
And he got it after we butchered a doctor. It's not a mod. (although dressing companions is.)

I am sorry I will say this but I have to use yellowish light.
No. Seriously, no. That doesn't convey safety, that conveys illness. It's not a warming yellow, it's a rotten yellow - the sort of yellow used in l4d or Ravenholm. Use brightness, not hue to convey safety. Bulbs aren't yellow. They're orange or blue, to varying degrees of saturation. Never yellow.

GTAIV is absolutely fantastic in terms of characterisation. The plot is decent and the gameplay is fun enough to support it. It falls short by trying to include too many pointless things like maintaining friendships and dating. Tedious.

It absolutely shines online, though... Well, so long as you can put up with the completely atrocious Games for Windows Live requirement. And by online I don't mean deathmatch or any of the other stupid modes. Get a mate, get on teamspeak and get in free mode. Just run around all of Liberty City with a mate doing stupid shit and having epic stand-offs with the police. It's stupendously good and utterly, shamelessly hilarious. Me and Urby play it, and Bad Company 2 online more than any other game.

Constantly working underground had started to inflict severe psychological damage upon the Central Administration personnel, so the suits up top decided to fit these artificial windows to brighten spirits. Their cool blue glow doesn't quite capture the warmth of sunlight, but it's better than the framed oil painting of Breen which used to hang there.

The Black Mesa legal team advise me to point out that I have never seen the film Resident Evil. I've never even heard of it, in fact.

The older Source games were moved onto the new engine so they would have the features of the new engine, not so they would run on macs. :/
HDR and dynamic flashlights in HL2, SSbumps and particles in CSS.. Really, I don't see where you're drawing your conspiracy theory from.

Just because there was a +50 page thread doesn't mean I'm in the minority. Considering the number of people who use the SDK on a daily basis, I'd say that's a pretty small number actually.

I am friends with a lot of source mappers and none of them have problems with the SDK. I'm also a regular at Interlopers and nobody there has problems with the SDK.

Problems being to the extent of not being able to map, I mean. Obviously a few minor niggles pop up here and there, but like I said - simple fixes.

crollo, just shut up. Your avatar is that of a company who are widely considered to have the worst DRM in existence at the moment - a system which genuinely punishes people who buy their game - and you're bawwwing at Valve for expanding to more platforms? Don't be such a complete and utter tool, especially when it's not even remotely relevant to the topic at hand.

ninja defuse, saw already mentioned cs 1.6 in his post:
no one will play deathmatch. Goldsource MP is really down to CS 1.6, and then a little bit spread across HL DM, TFC, and DOD. It'd really just be a waste of time to try and implement DM.
cStriker, HL2 is now on the 2009 Source engine.

OP4 isn't really a mod. It's a standalone expansion created by an entire studio. You are one guy and there's no point in wasting time and energy on an aspect of the mod that nobody will play. Saw wasn't lying when he said very, very few people play any multiplayer goldsource games anymore.

Awesome word, I am using it from now on.

Dimbark, nobody is trying to have a go at you, it's just that when honest advice and criticism is given to you, you deal with it, well, the way an 11 year old would and that can try some peoples' patience.
It is awesome that you are into level design at such a young age, but if you want help from a reasonably mature community like TWHL, you have to act a little better.

Now, if you'd be so kind, run HL/your mod, go into options, go into video settings, find resolution and change it to something decent before I kill you.

you're overcomplicating things. Add an alpha layer to your normal map and add this to your .vmt

"$normalmapalphaenvmapmask" "1"

Here's an example vmt. of a material I did which works fine:

"LightmappedGeneric"
{
"$baseTexture" "huntey/huntey_whiteboard1"
"$surfaceprop" "plastic"
"$bumpmap" "huntey/huntey_whiteboard1_normal"
"$normalmapalphaenvmapmask" "1"
"$envmap" "env_cubemap"
"$envmaptint" "[ .3 .3 .3 ]"
}

While I'm well aware that the two-year-old HL2 mod "The Citizen" went down about as well as an anvil in your lemon sorbet - due in no small way to the way Kasperg responded to criticism - I still think you should check out the sequel which was released yesterday.

The Citizen: Part II.

It's not perfect, and a few of the complaints from the original mod still made it into this one, but it's a vast, vast improvement and is well worth playing.
I go into more detail in my review.

I play around with the power box to do it instantly, because it's quicker and easier.
What?
You don't let your computer shut down? Ever? Wow, that thing's going to have a short life-span. And what do you mean by "play around?" Even turning off your computer at the plug shouldn't cause your router to reset as well. It really sounds like you have no idea what you're doing, and I think you should have a little patience and shut down/restart your PC properly before you do some real harm to your system.

Edit:
But wait, that makes no sense. Earlier, you said:
Q: Why not restart your computer?
A: Because whenever i do, it is connected to a power curciut which runs our router. My mother's playing LOTRO and will be a while, so I have to wait.
Surely a normal pc restart is faster and easier?

Your Jesus analogy works for, say, Photoshop. Average Joe Student isn't going to pay however-many-hundred for a legal CS5 license because it's ridiculous to expect them to be able to afford it. They pirate software like that, gain a great deal of skill in using it first hand and then potentially get a job with a company who does have a license for it. I totally approve of this.

But I don't personally know anyone who can't afford an album at around a quarter of the retail price, and I also don't know anyone who actually buys an album after "evaluating" a pirated version of it.

Also, I am aware that this thread has been majorly de-railed, but it's quite a good discussion.

damn you and your edit block.

Edit:
I feel this post is missing a solid point, so I'll just add that what I'm really trying to say is that pirating music just isn't necessary.
If you do it because you're not willing to pay ~?3.99 for an entire album (store price average ?12) then stop being such a cheapskate.
If you do it because you can't afford to pay ~?3.99, then you should be even more concerned about the possible legal ramifications. A friend of mine was fined ?7000 and had his hard drive wiped.

He's not missing any bread, but he's missing the money he would have earned from the people had they not been given free bread.

And it's all very well saying that "most pirates buy the stuff they like" and you may well do so yourself. Certainly I justify movie piracy for that reason, because I do go and buy the DVD if I like it, but that's only because a good, cheap, legal alternative doesn't exist [in the UK] yet.
It does exist for music and I'm quite happy to fork out ?0.50 to sample a track to see if I like an artist before committing to the full album.

I don't think it's the most morally questionable thing on the planet or anything, and I certainly don't liken it to stealing a handbag, but it is stealing. Don't kid yourself that it isn't.

Highly recommend it. The acting isn't great, but the production quality is fantastic for an indie show and the characters are likeable.

Three Gamers. One Outbreak. No Continues. Follow three gamers as they find themselves in the midst of a real life zombie outbreak. Relying only on the knowledge and skills they have accrued over years of gaming, these guys will have to drop the controller and pick up anything that they can use as a weapon.
