Conviction is actually really good. Sam's decent into, well, madness is totally believable and very well played.
The big plot twist is a bit rubbish - definitely not Tom Clancy quality, but the game itself is top notch.

Oh, and I have a question. By today's PC standards, what sort of r_speeds are unacceptable in a Goldsource map?

Looking from one side of this map to the other, it peaks at 4600 wpoly.
I don't notice any slowdown, but I have a seriously powerful rig. Is 4600 too much?

Yes? I am. Still waiting for those examples.

And this coming from a person who continually tries to convince people that Goldsource is "better" than Source, without using any examples or, indeed, sense.
It's fine to simply prefer Goldsource, but you genuinely seem to think it's a better engine - an opinion somewhat removed from reality.

I googled it. Found a wonderfully long changelist (addition list?) and nothing else. No visual examples of what it can do at all.
I'm interested in seeing these renderers which are "better than Source's."

Link please?

See how those train tracks are completely black? It's probably because their lighting origin is under the tunnel. You can use an info_target, or actually any other entity and define it as the model's lighting origin so that you can decide where it takes its light information from. Of course, then it won't be shadowed under the tunnel. Your best bet is using a shorter track model several times rather than those big long ones.

Made them.
I'd be happy to send you the .wad after I check with Urby that it's ok to. (I made them for his mod.)

Edit:
Actually, ask me again in a week or so. There's no point in sending the .wad until it's a complete set, and I have plenty more to make for this location.

Edit Edit:
Also, hlife_hotdog's image just loaded for me. (Imageshack has funny turns of not loading for me sometimes) and that is some awesome looking destructification, but I agree with previous comments that the lighting is too patchy.

It does look shit, though. As 2muchvideogames pointed out - this extremely basic room is absolutely on the line of Goldsource's limits. It's not even 25% complete and already I'm starting to see VIS errors.
I mean I haven't even started detailing yet. This is just one stage up from blocking out the layout.

Also
if you're just going to bash the engine don't say anything at all.
I wasn't just bashing the engine. I was lamenting about the fact that I'm finding it extremely difficult to move back to such a limiting platform upon which to make levels.

Cass' personal quest made me kill a couple of NCR allies
Tsk, you can turn the NCR against them if you bring evidence to them first.
Is there any way to get my NCR rep up quickly without doing a quest?
At the very bottom of The Strip there's an NCR base. A colonel there will tell you that he's willing to forgive any previous attacks on the NCR if you do something for him. He also plays an extremely high stakes game of Caravan.

So your started your game as Urby?
Hng. I'm allowed a goatee too, ok! :P
what makes it better? I'm not trying to troll here, just genuinely curious.
Disappointingly, I wouldn't actually say it's better overall. But it's as good, certainly. The main quest is a lot more involving, the non-vats combat is VASTLY improved, there are a lot more memorable characters and you really have a lot more freedom to change the outcome of... Well, everything.
Fallout 3 let you finish the game by either being a dick and ruining any chance of the Capitol Wasteland getting pure water OR becoming a hero. Obviously there were grey areas in between, but the overall outcome was one of those two things.
In New Vegas, without spoiling any late-game stuff, I will just say you can completely and utterly change the fate of the Mojave area in a head-spinning variety of ways. This goes beyond "alternate endings."

Game is ridiculously fun. I know it's getting a lot of bad press, but I note that all the bad press seems to be coming from console gamers who have to put up with stupidly long load times and drastically lowered texture resolution. I'd probably hate it if I had to play it like that as well.

But I don't, so I don't :)

I'ma share some photos from my adventure in the Wasteland so far...

The system I'm using at the moment often has graphics card-related crashes, but after testing the card in another system, and another card in this one I discovered that the mobo's graphics card slot was damaged, not the card itself.

Those are great, Striker. I always want to take photos when I see railways as well for some reason. There's something oddly artistic about the way they snake through a landscape.

in The TF2 Manconomy Update Post #285926
just a couple of updates that don't change the game all that much
Uhm.
valve just completely broke every aspect of [CSS]
Are you sure you're not getting the two games mixed up? CSS was moved to the orange box engine and rates were fixed and a whole bunch of creative aspects of the newer engine have been made available to mappers (particle editor etc.)

TF2 gets semi-monthly updates which add several new weapons, new maps and even new game modes as well as hundreds of cosmetic changes.

Your perspective is very, very warped.

For the record I like that they're still pumping new content into TF2. Bots especially have been a nice addition to practice with the new weapons. I don't actually play it anymore, but I got bored of it long before the first class update.
And I prefer new CSS to old. The engine is just ludicrously better.

In that aspect Striker must be something like me. "Normal"...
I don't even know where to begin with this. You are far from "normal." How dare you even think you have the right to define what "normal" is?
You're a zealot and the shite you're coming out with is a prime example of why I remain adamantly atheist. You people use your religion as an excuse to be racist, intolerant and then you go around acting like you're better than everyone else.

A conversation between two Christians and yet neither of you even come close to sharing the same beliefs. It's utter nonsense, but at least JeffMOD seems to believe what he does for the right moral reasons.

Oh, and because it bugs me that you think Striker is part of your so-called "normality," you should maybe click his link.
