The maps look pretty good for first ones..
I'd just suggest displaying that intro status text in parts, not the whole thing at once. (Like in HL1's tram ride)

Anywho - it's looking pretty good..
Keep it up. :)

in how do you trigger a cycler_sprite? Post #194881
The only way to pull this off, is to use multiple cyclers and toggle their visibility, once needed.
To make the table fall over - you should make 3 cycler_sprites. First with the idle animation, second with the falling over animation and the third one with the idle fallen over animation.

Now you place all 3 in one place, you make the 2nd and the 3rd table cyclers invisible (Render mode to Solid or Texture and FX ammount to 0), and you keep the 1st one visible. Now you'll have to encease the table with an invisible func_button (clip it, to make it match the table).

The button's properties:
Target: table_fall_mm
Health if shootable: Depends on how many shots you want fired at the table, to make it fall over. I'd use something like 25.

Now once you use or shoot the button for 25 hp - it triggers the fall over multi_manager.

To make the fall look realistic - you'll have to trigger 4 env_renders, to hide/show the animations of the falling table.
1st - hides the idle cycler (table_idle)
2nd - shows the falling table cycler (table_fall)
3rd - hides the falling table cycler (table_fall)
4th - shows the idle fallen over sprite (table_fallen)

You will also need some ambient_generics for the table fall sound, to make it all more realistic.

The multi_manager properties:
render1 0
render2 0
fall_sound 0
render3 <the length of the falling animation>
render4 <the length of the falling animation>

Now there will be only one problem - the bounding button. It would look really stupid, if the fallen over table had the same boundings, as the 1st table, wouldn't it? Luckily - func_buttons have the same properties, as func_doors. Accordingly to the table height - you'll have to make the button go down, to match the height of the fallen over table. You'll just have to make sure, that the 'Don't move' flag is not ticked.

And that's it. To make it reset next round - you'll have to make a multi_manager, named 'game_playerspawn' and trigger 3 more env_renders, to hide the 2nd and the 3rd table cyclers, and show the 1st idle table cycler.

It's a pretty complex entity setup, although it should work pretty good with proper timing. :)
I'd make an example map, but I don't have HL atm.

Now we see ads every day - on almost every site. Most of us ignore them, although they still can piss you off pretty much.

That's why I've created this thread. You are to create an advertisment parody. You choose, what kind of ad ad to parodize, you choose the size, you choose, if it's animated, or not.

The author of the funniest parody will recieve a special Ad-Basher trophy. :)

Here's a parody of an ad in fpsbanana to start you off.

Much better. :)
Give the crystal a more shiny texture, set the render mode to texture and FX ammount to ~175-150. You could also set the scale of the white metal texture on the walls to something like 2.5 x 2.5, to hide the pattern.

Looks much better, although the wall textures can be indeed a bit more plain, so that they wouldn't draw attention from the crystal.
You can always light the test platform brighter, than the other lights in the chamber.

Just use the original Black Mesa Tram textures.. They should fit fine there.

As for the screenshots - most of the rooms lack the usual Half-Life detail.
Put in some file cabinets, noteboards, pictures/diplomas on the walls, some shelves/desks with books, notes, laptops and gadgets in the labs to make them less empty. Some vents, pipes, going through the ceiling would help too. You could also give the labs/offices a more white-ish, brighter lighting, instead of the yellow one.

The best test chamber textures should be the 'c3a', 'generic' and perhaps 'babtech' or 'silo', if you want a more worn-off look for the chamber.
Take the HL1 chamber, as an example.
It has lots of detail (trims, pipes, computers, etc.)
The lighting is more yellow vs. red (gives it a more industrial feel)
The textures are all high-tech (metal-ish, with all sorts of bevels and other stuff)

Your chamber lacks the detail. Make the test platform bigger, more metal-ish. The wall architecture is ok, although the textures don't fit at all. Search halflife.wad for some metalish textures, that look more futuristic. The lighting should also be more industrial, not fullbright.

You could also add some detail, like pipes along the walls, drones.. The big computers don't really fit in there. Sonce the chamber usually has only one person in it, during testing - there would be no one to operate them. :)
Keep all of your big computers/gadgets in the control room and leave some smaller comps in the chamber, that would be clearly designed for only one person to operate..

The other hallways looked quite good, so did the lighting.
Good luck with the mod. :)

RAW's arena should be pretty easy to make.
You'll need some generic brushed/dented metal textures, some textures for the ring, a few more for the seats, etc..

in Big List of Mapping Crimes Post #194169
Nice idea for a thread..
Here's my list of crimes (mostly CS)

I agree with Rimrook. Not adding sound in MP maps to please bitchy csgeeks, that whine about any sound, besides the sound of their footsteps and gunfire, is one thing, but leaving an open area in SP, without any wind/open area ambience should be considered as a crime!

Blinking lights in a pitch-dark area. I mean, when you have like 5 point lights in a long corridor, that has no illumination, besides those damn lights - the flickering just burns your eyes.. :zonked:

Dustgeneral remakes. cs_as_de_dutsathon981237784.13k29_lolz_1337z0rz, anyone? No, thankyou.. There are much more ways of wasting your time, than remakes. Bashing your head against the keyboard, while trying to type '/rank' should work.. :

Killboxes. Counter-Strike was created to be a team-based tactic multiplayer game, not a fragging noobshit rank-raising tool. Play Serious Sam, if you want frags and stop making assfucked crap, in the level of aim_map. (I don't mean quality aim_ maps, like aim_verdun)
Hollowed cubes with a pointlight and two spawns don't work either!

Using 7+ wads in your map. Mappers, that use every single wad, available in Counter-Strike and HL should be burned. If you use lots of textures, from multiple wads (official/non-official) - wadinclude them!

Including 2mb+ sized wads into the maps' zip, when only 1 texture is used in the map. Again - WADINCLUDE!

I feel much better now.. :glad:

Minor/no effects.

They give you a very minor effect, although I think, that it's just in your head (you expect some stronger effect and make your brain think, that it actually works).

The sounds are rather annoying and ear-burning, so I'd say, that it's not really worth trying out. :

You can discuss religion, but you cannot argue about religion. Everyone can choose whether to believe or not. You can't force non-believers to become believers, or vice versa. It totally depends on the person's point of view and really cannot be changed by someone other, than the person himself.

That's, why pushing your opinion, or saying, that all believers are dumb is the same as saying, that all the people, who don't like chocolate ice-cream are idiots. It totally depends on your opinion and everyone knows, that you really can't argue with that.
